Die Grunge / Punk-Band MAXIMUM ROBOT hat einen Labeldeal bei Epictronic Records unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen haben die Engländer am 15. Mai 2026 ihr neues Album „Away With The Fairies“ veröffentlicht. Es ist das vierte Album des Duos. Nach einem Video zum Opener „A World Of My Own“ gibt es zu „Eternia“ nun auch ein Lyric-Video. Der Song thematisiert das Chaos menschlichen Verhaltens, Umweltverschmutzung, den Zusammenbruch der Umwelt und Krieg und wendet sich dagegen, indem er eine andere Realität vorstellt, die weit davon entfernt ist.

Die Gothic / Blues Rock / Post-Punk-Band WAILIN STORMS hat mit dem Video-Clip zu „You Never Answered“ eine zweite Single ihres kommenden Albums „The Arsonist“ veröffentlicht.

„In diesem Song geht es darum, sich von Bildschirmen zu lösen und wieder auf Entdeckungsreise zu gehen“, sagt Frontmann Justin Storms.

Es ist das fünfte Album der US-Amerikaner der US-Amerikaner aus North Carolina und wurde von Matt Talbott analog aufgenommen und produziert.

David Lynchs „Wild at Heart“ und René Magrittes Gemälde „Gaspard de la Nuit“ waren ebenso Inspirationsquellen für das Album wie der literarische Fatalismus von Flannery O’Connor und Cormac McCarthy, die Hymnen der Old Regular Baptists und die Blues-Tradition. Das Cover des Albums – stark schattiert bis auf ein winziges, in Flammen stehendes Haus – wurde von Bandleader Justin Storms selbst gemalt, inspiriert von Magritte.

„Feuer hat mich schon immer fasziniert“, sagt Storms, der in Corpus Christi, Texas, als Sohn eines Kirchenpianisten und eines Baptistenpredigers aufwuchs. „Feuer spricht unsere angeborene Anziehungskraft gegenüber Gefahr und Vernichtung an, aber auch unsere Hoffnung auf Verwandlung. Diese Songs sind durchdrungen von den Prüfungen und Nöten des Alltags.“

„The Arsonist“ wird am 10. Juli 2026 via Season of Mist erscheinen. Vorab gibt es einen Video-Clip zum Titeltrack.

„Der Titelsong war der erste Funke für das Album. Er handelt von der Angst, den Menschen zu verlieren, den man im Leben am meisten liebt – eine Liebe, die so alles verzehrend ist, dass sie viele Formen annimmt: einen Autounfall, eine stürmische See, sich um einen Baum windende Ranken, einen Hausbrand“, sagt Storms.

Die Power Metal-Band PRIME CREATION hat mit „Souls Of The Fallen“ ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist das vierte Album der Schweden und wurde von Niels Nielsen produziert. Release-Termin ist der 26. Juni 2026 via ROAR. Nach „Souls of the Fallen“ gibt es mit „Ashes Of Trust“ nun ein weiteres Video.

„In diesem Song geht es um den Verrat durch jemanden, dem man einst vertraut hat, und um den Schmerz, dessen wahres Wesen zu erkennen“, sagt die Band. „Er handelt von dem emotionalen Zusammenbruch, der durch Lügen, Manipulation und den metaphorischen Stich in den Rücken ausgelöst wird. Im Verlauf des Textes verlagert sich der Fokus von der Verletzung hin zu Widerstandskraft und Konfrontation. Letztendlich geht es darum, wieder zu Kräften zu kommen, sich nicht unterkriegen zu lassen und sich aus den hinterlassenen Wunden wieder aufzurichten.“

Vorab gibt es außerdem den Opener „Galactic Rebirth“ zu hören.

„Der Song handelt von einem kosmischen Krieg, der am Rande der Auslöschung ausgetragen wird, wo eine sterbende Sonne und endlose Dunkelheit die Kulisse für einen letzten Kampf bilden. Er begleitet himmlische Krieger, die durch Schicksal, Legende und gemeinsames Opfer verbunden sind, während sie sich einer überwältigenden Übermacht stellen. Themen wie Angst, Schmerz und Verlust ziehen sich durch die Schlacht, aber ebenso Trotz und Zusammenhalt. Insgesamt geht es darum, gemeinsam aufzustehen, um der Vernichtung entgegenzutreten, und durch Mut Spuren zu hinterlassen, auch wenn der Sieg seinen Preis hat“, sagt die Band.

On Ghosts, Sheffield’s IAMIMPERFECT write as though the mid-2020s have become a pressure system inside the skull: everything hums, everything tightens, and every private injury has somehow learned to speak in public. The title is apt, though these apparitions belong less to candlelit folklore than to modern fatigue. They haunt us with the need to pass among one’s peers, the ache of comparison, the competitor always gaining ground, the plain cruelty of seeing everyone else appear to cope while your own life keeps tilting off its axis.

The band’s music sits at the junction of darkwave, synth-pop, industrial, and goth, with electronic drums snapping under intricate synth arrangements, distorted guitar adding a metallic ache, and vocal hooks that rise with a theatrical insistence. The reference points are clear enough: Solar Fake, The Birthday Massacre, Faderhead, Depeche Mode, with a stray Iron Maiden flourish cutting through the machinery – but IAMIMPERFECT are most persuasive when those ingredients serve emotional consequence rather than genre inventory.

Surviving Is Not Living sets the album’s moral temperature, with its cinematic synth sighs. Its vocals lay bare the central wound of imbalance: one person takes, the other keeps giving; one person seems required, the other feels merely tolerated. The anger is sharpened by exhaustion, but the track’s real force comes from its refusal to accept humiliation as fate.

With its driving melody, The Fallen widens the frame from private injury to civic collapse, picturing society as a wired collective where freedom and control blur until people become strangers to themselves. It is one of the record’s stronger pieces, bleak without becoming vague.

Conversion Therapy, with its mechanized beat, is the most explicit and severe track here, treating abuse disguised as salvation with appropriate disgust. The language of poison, brainwashing, exploitation, and PTSD is direct because the subject allows no polite softening.

In the dirgeful, rhythmic lament Solitary Shell, shame and religious judgment curdle into isolation, but the song keeps searching for will, drive, and some stubborn remnant of connection.

The final track, Ghosts Of The Past, with its bright, wistful synth melody, somber vocal, and zig-zag guitar riff, closes the circle with abandonment and the cruel arithmetic of unanswered messages.

Ghosts by IAmImperfect

Formed in Sheffield in late 2023, the project moved quickly through UK gigs, festival appearances, the 2024 Reincarnate EP, and a 2025 stretch that included a southern England tour. That pace gives Ghosts a charged, breathless quality, as though the songs were written in the narrow gap between damage and decision.

The EP’s artwork deepens the album’s emotional architecture. Working with Sheffield artists Stephen Carley and Scott D’arcy, IAMIMPERFECT turned double-exposed film photographs into visual companions for each track, giving the record a carefully distressed frame. Ghosts is about trying to live while the world claws at your attention, pulls you toward conformity, and drags you back toward despair. More crucially, it is about continuing anyway.

The Cramps are crawling back out of the vault. The legendary psychobilly, garage-punk, and rock ’n’ roll voodoo institution will release Gravest Gravy, a previously unreleased album recorded in October 1977 with Big Star’s Alex Chilton at Ardent Studios in Memphis. The album arrives August 21 via the newly revived Vengeance Records and will be available in multiple colored vinyl editions, on CD, and in digital formats.

The release also marks the launch of The Cramps Inc., a new company formed by Poison Ivy Rorschach, In the Red Records’ Larry Hardy, and film producer Jimmy Maslon. The venture will oversee the revival of Vengeance Records, official Cramps merchandise, and a slate of archival releases drawn from the band’s vaults.

Henry Rollins and Ian MacKaye, operating as RAM Prod., are working on behalf of The Cramps Inc. on tape maintenance, editing, mixing, mastering, lacquer cutting, and future release concepts. Rollins announced the project with a characteristically reverent dispatch:

“Out of an abundance of respect and affection for the Cramps, their amazing legacy, and their extraordinarily enthusiastic global fan base, we started work on all of this several months ago in relative secrecy.

Not only do we have a completely mind-blowing first release to kick things off, we have other projects in various states of completion that we will announce when the time is right. All of these are from source masters and previously unreleased. We will update you on upcoming releases.”

The first offering from that effort is a monster: Gravest Gravy, a 12-track document of the band’s primordial lineup — Lux Interior on vocals, Poison Ivy on guitar, Bryan Gregory on guitar, and Nick Knox on drums — captured at the moment their sound was still oozing into form.

Those 1977 Ardent sessions produced the Cramps’ first two Vengeance Records singles: “Surfin’ Bird” b/w “The Way I Walk” and “Human Fly” b/w “Domino,” both issued in 1978. The following year, those tracks were collected with “Lonesome Town” for the five-song Gravest Hits EP, a transmission from a haunted jukebox that helped set the template for the band’s stripped-down collision of rockabilly, surf, garage rock, trash culture, and B-movie deviance.

But there was more on the tape.

According to the announcement, Lux and Ivy revisited the unreleased Ardent material in the late 1980s, with plans to release an album called Gravest Gravy. They mixed several tracks at Present Time Recorders in North Hollywood in June 1989, while Chilton mixed several more in Memphis. The album had a title, artwork by the late Stephanie Chernikowski, and a clear intent — then, for reasons now lost to time, it was shelved.

The tapes eventually resurfaced on seven quarter-inch reels. Six were generated by Lux and Ivy, and one by Chilton. Brian Kehew transferred the reels, which were reportedly in pristine condition, and Rollins and MacKaye combed through the multiple mixes to select the final versions. MacKaye and Don Zientara made EQ and level adjustments at Inner Ear Studios in Arlington, Virginia, and Pete Lyman mastered the album at Infrasonic Sound in Nashville.

“Gravest Gravy is an absolute treasure.” Rollin’s adds: “You get a performance of Hungry by Paul Revere and the Raiders, released in 1966, which found itself in the band’s early set lists, but soon dropped out. To make it even more interesting, Alex Chilton jumps in on organ. Another early Cramps cover, Problem Child, written by Sam Phillips, is on the record. The band used to do an absolutely rippin’ version of the 1958 Jimmy Lloyd track, Rocket In My Pocket at some of their early shows. There’s a great version of it on Gravest Gravy.

Also really cool are the songs that found official release on the band’s second album, Psychedelic Jungle, with Kid Congo Powers taking over the spot vacated by Bryan. These tracks would be Jungle Hop (also with Alex Chilton on organ) by Kip Tyler, released in 1958, The Natives Are Restless (with different lyrics), Can’t Find My Mind and Rockin’ Bones released in 1959 by the Blond Bomber himself, Ronnie Dawson. The approach to these versions is much different than on Psychedelic, and it’s never a bad thing to have more Bryan Gregory to listen to.”

Shared along with the announcement is a new Jason Willis-created video for “TV Set,” the song originally intended as the Cramps’ first A-side.

Formed in 1976 around the unholy chemistry of Lux Interior and Poison Ivy, the Cramps remain one of American punk’s most singular acts. They emerged from the CBGB-era New York underground but never fit neatly alongside their peers, instead forging a feverish language of their own: fuzzed-out guitar, primitive drums, no-bass menace, old rock ’n’ roll records, monster-movie camp, pin-up sleaze, and a record-collector’s devotion to forgotten American weirdness.

The band’s first full-length album, Songs the Lord Taught Us, followed in 1980, again with Chilton producing. Their discography continued through cult landmarks such as Psychedelic Jungle, A Date With Elvis, Stay Sick!, Look Mom No Head!, and Big Beat From Badsville. Their final studio album, Fiends of Dope Island, was released in 2003 on Vengeance Records, followed by the 2004 archival compilation How to Make a Monster. The Cramps effectively ended following Lux Interior’s death in 2009.

The newly revived Vengeance Records campaign will also include reissues of Gravest Hits, Smell of Female, A Date With Elvis, RockinnreelininAucklandNewZealand, Stay Sick!, Look Mom No Head!, Big Beat From Badsville, Fiends of Dope Island, and How to Make a Monster.

Abracadabra, make it okay
Presto, change-o, make it go away

Catherine Moan’s shimmering new track No Magic, the lead single from her forthcoming new album, CM Ultra, has the rush of a perfect pop postcard slipped from a spellbook where the glitter has worn off, the old incantations have failed, and the song itself becomes the only enchantment with any power left to make the impossible feel fleetingly possible. The song opens its arms with gleaming synths and a hook built for instant memory, yet every bright surface carries a heartache. Moan sings with an effervescent, teasing lift, a voice that slips between Pet Shop Boys’ bubbly synth drama,  Cranes-like Dream Pop, and Julee Cruise’s floating ache without losing its own sly smile.

No Magic circles a simple wish: make the pain disappear, please, right now. Around that wish, Moan builds a room full of stage tricks, old spells, broken promises, and emotional misdirection. Her chorus feels like a reflex, the kind of phrase a person repeats while realizing the universe has offered no secret lever. The chant is sweet enough to live in your head after one pass, but its sweetness has a sting, giving the track its charge.

Catherine Moan lets dance music carry dread without draining the floor. The beat keeps moving, the synth pads bloom, and the vocal line glides with poised, pop-wise confidence. Underneath, the writing takes aim at the fantasy of rescue, whether personal, mystical, political, or cultural. In the world around CM Ultra, queer life is treated as a target by loud public forces, and media noise turns ordinary survival into a daily pressure system. Moan answers with rhythm, colour, and control, turning anxiety into motion.

The video for No Magic, shot and editing by Johnny Dynamite, builds a miniature theatre of failed enchantment, opening on red curtains and a glowing title card before dissolving into grainy black-and-white film fragments, watchful eyes, hands pressed against glass, and Catherine Moan framed amid crystal balls, playing cards, dice, potion bottles, rose petals, columns, and a small white rabbit that seems to have wandered in from a trick that no longer works. It is all séance table, stage act, and VHS spellbook, but the glamour keeps curdling into resignation. By the time the chorus lands on “No magic”, the clip feels like an inventory of broken charms: every symbol of transformation laid out in plain sight, beautiful and bereft, except for the song itself.

Die 23-jährige Zürcherin Luana (Selma Kopp) trägt viel Weltschmerz in sich: Ihre Eltern sind geschieden, sie lebt bei ihrer Mutter, mit der es viele Konflikte gibt, ihr Vater ist schwerkrank und hat sich in den letzten Jahren nie besonders viel um sie gekümmert, den Job als Erzieherin führt sie eher halbherzig aus. Luana findet Trost im Black Metal. Passenderweise ist ihr Cousin Domi (Fabian Künzli) Drummer der Black Metal-Band WLVS. Hier hängt Luana bei den Proben ab und hört danach mit ihm Platten. Die Dinge nehmen Fahrt auf, als bei WLVS einen neuen Sänger einsteigt. Wiktor (Bartosz Bielenia) ist ein stiller Typ mit einer geheimnisvollen Aura und starker Bühnenpräsenz. Als die Band auf ihre erste Tour geht, beginnen Luana und Wiktor sich näherzukommen. In einem Underground-Laden, in dem ziemlich fadenscheiniges Publikum unterwegs ist, zeigt sich, dass Wiktor wohl mehr ist, als nur ein Edgelord.

Gaslighting, Hörigkeit und toxische Beziehungen: WOLVES behandelt die Themen klassischer Dramen im Black Metal-Kontext.
Bricht man die Story von WOLVES herunter, handelt es sich bei dem Film um ein klassisches Drama: Es geht um Gaslighting und toxische Beziehungen, sowohl in der Liebe als auch im Sozialgefüge. Die Geschichte über Hörigkeit könnte also auch in vielen anderen Kontexten stattfinden. Der Schweizer Filmemacher Jonas Ulrich hat sich als Umgebung dafür die Black Metal-Szene ausgesucht, was sehr passend ist. Dort wird an mancher Stelle kokettiert mit Tabubrüchen, mit Undurchsichtigkeit, mit Extremisierung, und gerade deshalb ist dieses Setting so gut geeignet für die Themen, die sich zwischen den Protagonisten abspielen. So ist in einer frühen Szene zu sehen, wie Luana in der Plattensammlung ihres Cousins  stöbert und eine NSBM-Platte darunter findet. Sie stellt ihn zur Rede und schließlich wird die Platte mit einem Morgenstern (!) zerschmettert.

Doch diese Abgrenzung halten WLVS nicht immer: Als sie im ersten fadenscheinigen Underground-Laden eintreffen, ein verfallenes Hotel mit Runenfahne an der Fassade, ist schnell klar, dass hier nicht alles sauber zugeht. Die Band weist Wiktor auf eine Keltenkreuz-Flagge hin, er reißt sie von der Wand und fragt, ob es nun OK sei, dort zu spielen. Abwiegelungen und Whataboutism spiegelt sich in Wiktors Verhalten wider: Während er niemals rechtsradikales Gedankengut äußert, distanziert er sich auch nicht vom Rechtsradikalismus. Auf einen Shitstorm bezüglich seines Schwarze-Sonne-Tattoos reagiert er nicht, lässt kein Statement zu, sondern verteidigt es als uraltes Symbol, das von den Nazis zweckentfremdet worden sei. Die Band? Zieht noch mit. Luana? Fühlt sich immer noch zu Wiktor hingezogen. Es ist kaum auszuhalten.

WOLVES stellt die großen Fragen der zeitgenössischen Black Metal-Szene: Was ist Provokation und was ist Fanatismus?
Und so werden die Mechanismen der rechten Szene dezidiert dargestellt. Wiktor reißt die Band und Luana immer tiefer in den Abgrund. WOLVES besteht aus vier Kapiteln: „Rituals“, „Symbols“, „Void“ und „Solstice“, mit denen Jonas Ulrich die Handlung konsequent vorantreibt. Während das Publikum sich denken mag: „An dieser Stelle hätte ich mich getrennt / Wiktor aus der Band geworfen“, zeigt Ulrich aber, wie schleichend sich Menschen in diesen Strukturen verlieren können. Das Erzeugen dieses unguten Gefühls ist nicht das Einzige, was an WOLVES richtig gut macht. Mit WLVS wurde eine tatsächliche Band erfunden, die auf Tour ist, das Album „Rooted In Ancestral Memory“ gibt es auf Vinyl bei FUCKING KILL RECORDS. Geschrieben wurden die Songs von Manuel Gagneux (ZEAL & ARDOR) und liegen zwischen AFSKY und WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM.

Die Sequenzen der Konzerte sind roh und undergroundig. Hierbei haben auch AMENRA einen Gastauftritt, die tatsächlich von WLVS im Kiff Aarau supported wurden. Einen Cameo hat hierbei auch Colin H Van Eckhove, der mit Wiktor so freundschaftlich umgeht, als würden sie sich schon lange kennen. Eine irgendwie unbequeme Szene, da die Zuschauer hier schon lange wissen, wie Wiktor tickt. Hier verschwimmt die Grenze zwischen Erzählung und Realität am wirkungsvollsten. Der Soundtrack ist abgesehen von der Filmband mit AMENRA, OATHBREAKER und SPIRIT ADRIFTrelativ wenig Black Metal-lastig. Immerhin, als zweite Liveperformance einer echten Band ist auch DARKSPACE im Film zu sehen. Auch die Bandmitglieder der fiktiven Band WLVS sind seit Jahren aktive Musiker. So ist Drummer Fabian Künzli bei UNGFELL, KVELGEYST, ÄTEIGGÄR und TEMPLE WOLF aktiv.

Realität trifft auf Erzählung: Die Filmband WLVS war tatsächlich auf Tour. WOLVES gewinnt dadurch an Authentizität.
Das Tempo von WOLVES passt gut zur Story. Der Film nimmt schnell Fahrt auf und setzt die zentralen Figuren an ihre Plätze. Klar im Zentrum befinden sich Luana, Wiktor und Domi sowie Amélie, die alle gut gezeichnet werden. Die restlichen Figuren hätten ein wenig mehr Tiefe vertragen, wie die beiden WLVS-Musiker Ruben und Sebi oder auch Luanas Eltern. Aber so wird auch klar der Fokus auf die wichtigsten Personen gesetzt. Newcomerin Selma Kopp ist die Zerrissenheit anzumerken, die im Laufe des Films größer und größer wird, sie spielt auch gut gegen ihren Partner an: Bartosz Bielenia, der schon im verstörenden Film CORPUS CHRISTI eine beeindruckende Präsenz bot, prägt WOLVES ganz besonders. Ein wenig Gaahl, ein wenig Varg Vikernes, und fertig ist ein faszinierender Antagonist, der in den allermeisten Momenten überaus glaubwürdig ist.

Jonas Ulrich ist mit seinem Spielfilmdebüt das gelungen, was Jonas Åkerlund mit LORDS OF CHAOS nicht schaffte: WOLVES hat das Zeug, als erster ernstzunehmender Spielfilm dem isländischen Kleinod METALHEAD vom Underground zu zählen, da er die Dynamik der Figuren an die erste Stelle stellt und auf Gewalt und Schockeffekte verzichtet. Mit einer sehr direkten, rohen Kameraarbeit, die nah an den Figuren ist, aber gleichzeitig auch große Bilder zu erschaffen versteht, einem soliden Schnitt und tollem Sounddesign ist WOLVES unbedingt empfehlenswert für diejenigen, die fasziniert sind vom Black Metal, egal ob sie ihn vergöttern oder abstoßen. Sehr empfehlenswert!

DIMMU BORGIR

Das 10. Album von DIMMU BORGIR hat (wieder mal) lange auf sich warten lassen.
Nämlich auch 8 Jahre, wie sie auch zwischen „Abrahadabra“ und „Eonian“  lagen.
Die beiden Alben gefielen mir anfangs recht gut, konnten auf Dauer aber viel weniger überzeugen als meine liebste Phase um den Jahrtausendwechsel. „Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia“ ist immer noch ein perfektes Biest!
Und in diese Richtung geht es mit „Grand Serpent Rising“ zum Glück wieder.
Das Album soll nämlich eine Art Zusammenschnitt der Band-Geschichte darstellen.
Und das haben (nach dem Weggang von Galder nach fast 25 Jahren) die beiden Norweger hervorragend hinbekommen!
Was mich hier am meisten begeistert ist die Reduktion von Chören, Effekten und Bombast!
Weg ist das Ganze natürlich nicht, wo wären DIMMU BORGIR sonst. Aber grad auf den letzten beiden Scheiben hat das Ganze schon überhandgenommen, was zumindest bei mir dafür gesorgt hat, dass sich die Scheiben zügig abgehört hatten, da sie mich so überfahren haben. Ich hatte schon fast mit der Band abgeschlossen, aber „Grand Serpent Rising“ ist der Stinkefinger, den ich dafür kassiere.
Black Metal gibt es schon lange nicht mehr und darauf braucht auch niemand mehr warten! Das was DIMMU BORGIR hier abliefern ist wieder großer Bombast Black Metal, der „für die Kinoleinwand gemacht wurde und nicht für den Handybildschirm“!
Ich vermisse zwar immer noch den engelsgleichen Gesang von ICS Vortex, das geniale Spiel von Mustis (auch wenn Track 1 und 13 wirklich gut klingen) und das abartige Geballer von Nick Barker, aber das hier ist die beste Version von DIMMU seit der eben genannten Besetzung zu der ja auch noch Galder gehörte! Wobei der polnische Drummer „Daray“ auf dieser Platte schon einen ziemlich guten Job gemacht hat.
Auch dieses Mal konnten die Vorabsingles bei mir keine Begeisterung auslösen, aber sie befinden sich auch in der ersten Hälfte der Scheibe und die zweite Hälfte ist für mich mit Songs wie „Repository Of Divine Transmutation“ (schließt die erste Hälfte ab), „Slik Minnes En Alkymist“ und „The Exonerated“ sehr viel stärker ausgefallen! Ja, es kommen auch wieder norwegische Texte vor und gleich bei 2 Songs! Sehr schön!
Ich bin so begeistert von der Scheibe, dass „Grand Serpent Rising“  nach 1 Woche schon fast so viele Plays bei mir hatte, wie „Spiritual Black Dimensions“ in den letzten 15 Jahren (ach, last.fm ist doch einfach schön)! Könnte auch daran liegen, dass ich das Gefühl habe, dass es auf diesem Album wieder etwas zackiger zu Werke geht, als die Alben vorher!
Beim Sound hat Fredrik Nordström im Studio Fredman zum vierten Mal die Knöpfe für DIMMU BORGIR und dieses Mal wirklich gut gedreht!
Inwiefern er eventuell dazu beigetragen hat, dass der Bombast zurückgefahren wurde, kann ich natürlich nicht beurteilen, aber das ist der große Pluspunkt im Sound, an dem es sonst gar nichts zu meckern gibt. Er passt perfekt zu DIMMU!

Mit „Grand Serpent Rising“ sind DIMMU BORGIR in alter Stärke zurückgekehrt und geben den Thron im symphonischen Black Metal nicht her! (hendrik)

Dieses prallgefüllte 8-CD-Artbook versammelt nicht nur sämtliche klassischen Werke der norwegischen Black Metal Kultband, die Demos und ersten Alben, sondern sogar das bislang unveröffentlichte "1994 Demo"! LIMBONIC ART wurden im Jahr 1993 gegründet und veröffentlichten drei Jahre später ihr Debütalbum "Moon in the Scorpio" (1996) über Nocturnal Art Productions. Das Label wurde von EMPEROR-Gitarrist Samoth alias Tomas Thormodsæter Haugen betrieben, der zugriff, nachdem die Demo-Kassetten der Band sein Interesse geweckt hatten. Die damals recht einzigartige Kombination der Band aus nordischem Black Metal mit cineastischen Elementen, die von romantischer und klassischer Orchestermusik inspiriert waren, erwies sich in den Folgejahren als sehr einflussreich. LIMBONIC ART waren stets ein schwer fassbares Phänomen und galten schon damals als Kultband, da die Norweger nur sehr selten live auftraten – beispielsweise mit einem legendären Konzert beim Black Whitsun Subfestival der Jahrtausendausgabe des Wave Gotik Treffens (2000) in Leipzig. Im neuen Jahrhundert schloss sich Daemon für eine Weile ZYKLON an, bevor sich LIMBONIC ART im Februar 2003 offiziell auflösten. Im Jahr 2006 formierte Daemon die Band jedoch neu und machte im Alleingang weiter. Nach einer weiteren längeren Pause feierte die norwegische Kultband im Jahr 2024 mit ihrem neunten Album "Opus Daemoniacal" ein bemerkenswertes Comeback. Die Veteranen spielen dabei ihre enorme Erfahrung und das hörbare Selbstvertrauen in ihr tödliches Handwerk voll aus, um ihrem meist technisch orientierten Genre einen emotionalen Tiefgang zu verleihen. Inhaltlich greifen die hartgesottenen Insulaner erneut auf Themen aus der klassischen Antike zurück, die sich in den Texten ihres Freundes und langjährigen Mitstreiters, dem Psychologen Frank "Doc" Albers, widerspiegeln. TEMPLE OF DREAD wurden im Jahr 2017 auf der Insel Spiekeroog von Markus Bünnemeyer mit der Absicht gegründet, dem Death Metal der alten Schule neues Leben einzudreschen. Ursprünglich ein Trio, hat sich die Band mittlerweile zu einem Quintett entwickelt. In dessen Songs spiegelt sich unmittelbar die musikalische Erfahrung und kompositorische Reife aus drei Jahrzehnten wider. Die scheinbare Leichtigkeit, mit der sich diese Meister-Metaller einen packenden Heavy-Track nach dem anderen aus den Ärmeln schütteln, ist beeindruckend. Inhaltlich dreht sich "Fading Failing Ruin" um apokalyptische, endzeitliche Themen, die den aktuellen Zeitgeist auf den Punkt bringen. SOLACE knüpfen dabei an die Anfangstage des Heavy Metal an, verbinden die alten Themen und Sounds jedoch geschickt mit zeitgenössischer Härte. SOLACE bezeichnen ihre ureigene Mischung aus Doom und Heavy Metal mit Hardcore-Elementen gerne als "Dirt Metal", haben sich aber auch schon die augenzwinkernde Benennung als "Shorecore" eingefangen. Letzteres beruht auf ihrer Herkunft aus dem Küstenstaat New Jersey in den USA, dessen Einwohner auch als "Shoremen" bekannt sind. Andere schlagen das Quintett aus Asbury Park bevorzugt dem Stoner Metal zu. Tatsächlich treffen all diese Beschreibungen bis zu einem gewissen Grad auf die Band zu. Mit "Fading Failing Ruin" setzen SOLACE einen neuen Meilenstein des US-Heavy Metal, der die durchaus unterschiedlichen Traditionen des Genres von beiden Seiten des Atlantiks respektiert sie zugleich aber auch in die Zukunft trägt. When some of their compatriots signed record deals with international labels, the horde from Askim deliberately acted from within the deepest underground. With a short lifespan of only 2 years, the output produced by MALFEITOR is naturally rather meagre. The releases spawned between 1991 and 1992 only consist of 1 rehearsal- and 2 demo tapes and were back in the day only spread on home-dubbed tapes in very limited quantities. Devoted to Black Metal of the rather stripped-down, minimalist style similar to early BATHORY, ILDJARN or DARKTHRONE, MALFEITOR had the potential to release a great first full-length.
