Die Melodic Death Metal-Band DEAD END FINLAND hat mit „Carbon“ ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist das sechste Album der Finnen und wird am 12. März 2027 via Inverse Records erscheinen. Vorab gibt es den Track „Mercy of Fools“ zu hören.

„“Mercy of Fools“ ist ein Lied über eine Welt, in der der Wahnsinn die Oberhand gewinnt und gewöhnliche Menschen die von anderen hinterlassenen Trümmer beseitigen müssen. Es handelt von Ohnmacht, Wut und Verzweiflung – aber auch von der Sehnsucht nach Frieden, der immer schwerer zu erreichen scheint“, erklärt die Band.

Walpurgis Night gives the arrival of May a deliciously disreputable reception. Across Germany’s Harz Mountains, the night of April 30 into May 1 belongs to bonfires, witches, and the prospect of meeting the devil on the Brocken. The season of flowers and fertility arrives with a warning to watch the skies.

Its fires share the calendar with Beltane, the Gaelic festival welcoming summer, when flames also served to protect livestock and ensure good fortune. Six months later, Samhain marks the beginning of winter, its celebrations haunted by returning souls and spirits abroad after dark. Together, these distinct traditions suggest that changing seasons demand more than turning a calendar page: somebody must light a fire, gather the neighbours, and acknowledge whatever might be moving beyond this mortal plane.

Leipzig darkwave project Kalte Steine brings that apprehension into Hexentanz, a German-language single premiering just before All Hallows’ Eve. The song draws on the musician’s childhood near the Harz, where the geography of everyday life comes furnished with some distinctly unusual local residents.

“I grew up in the foothills of the Harz Mountains. There are many old myths and legends surrounding the Harz.”

Among them is the witches’ annual gathering, held at the devil’s invitation. In the account behind the song, they assemble at the Hexentanzplatz, the Witches’ Dance Ground above Thale, circling a fire before flying onward to the Brocken, also known as the Blocksberg. Presiding over proceedings is Watelinde, the head witch named in the lyrics. These stories attach themselves to places people can visit; the region’s Walpurgis celebrations still turn that imagined company into a very public occasion.

The song opens with Low piano notes and storm sounds that set the scene before a cold, melodic guitar figure emerges. Crows caw across the introduction, while the bass supplies a brooding weight beneath the tune. The drum machine moves with the steady insistence of footsteps along a wooded path, giving the arrangement a physical direction. Brief keyboard pulses disturb the spaces between instruments, small electric shivers that make the surrounding quiet feel occupied.

The lyrics follow two companions into the Harz, where mist gathers among firs, and Watelinde welcomes them to the fire. Old songs and spells accompany a dance that accelerates until the light disappears. Morning finds the clearing empty, the flames extinguished, and only a whisper remaining: an assurance that the gathering will return at this time the following year.

The German vocal carries both apprehension and attraction, as though the invitation has already been accepted despite everything its recipient knows. When the chorus arrives, that tension acquires a romantic charge: the repeated title beckons, and the guitar beneath it catches the cold brightness of moonlight through branches. Those recurring synth accents add little pricks of unease without interrupting the melody. Fear and pleasure move at the same pace, each giving the other a reason to continue.

Kalte Steine leaves enough space around these parts for the forest to seem larger than the recording. The piano, birds, and storm establish the setting; the restraint sustains it. By the time the lyrics reach the deserted clearing at dawn, the night has acquired the intimacy of a shared secret, with another arcane meeting already penciled into next year’s calendar.

Based in Leipzig, Germany, Kalte Steine works across post-punk, darkwave, and synthpop, moving between German and English lyrics. Early singles Shattered, Dysthymia, Wüste aus Beton, and Kinder der Nacht explored isolation, urban estrangement, and nocturnal escape, as discussed in our first feature on the project. Subsequent releases Crying Out, Drowning, and Love Is A Lie extended that vocabulary into social distrust and romantic disappointment. Hexentanz brings those nocturnal instincts back to the folklore of home.

Ach, was soll’s. Symphonic Black Metal im Sinne der zweiten Welle macht den Verfasser dieser Zeilen häufig machtlos. Vor fünf bis sieben Jahren, als das Genre wieder mehr en vogue kam, freute man sich noch etwas mehr über Neuerscheinungen, jetzt ist das Ohr schon wieder etwas gesättigter. Daher gab es auch zunächst ein paar Vorbehalte gegenüber TROLLDOM (nicht TRELLDOM!) – so richtig aufregend schienen sie nicht zu sein. Aber dann übertölpeln sie einen doch. Mehr noch: Deren drittes Album „Tronen“ zündet schnell, dank der passgenauen Schnittmenge aus schwedischer Melodik und norwegischem Pomp. Mainman Swartadauþuz, der in zahllosen Underground-Bands spielt (u.a. BEKËTH NEXËHMÜ und GNIPAHÅLAN), könnte hiermit vielleicht sogar ein etwas größeres Publikum erreichen.

TROLLDOM haben von der Essenz des Genres genommen: „Tronen“ ist rasant und episch zugleich.
Vielleicht ein bisschen zu sehr gehen TROLLDOM mit „Tidens Evighet“ in medias res. Das Album startet schnell, brutal und überbordend, aber bald schälen sich die melodiösen Riffs heraus, die mit epischen Synthesizern harmonisch interagieren und dadurch eine weitere Ebene erhalten. Schon „Dräpt ur Dunkel“ weiß das auszunutzen und zusätzlich ein wenig die Geschwindigkeit zu variieren, während „I Völvans Spår“ zwischendurch auch etwas die Lautstärke reduziert. „Etter Falla…“ besitzt Hitqualitäten und ein episches Riff zum Niederknien und erst „Ulvarnas Kall“ kann nicht mehr so ganz mit den ersten vier Stücken mithalten, ist aber trotzdem ziemlich gut. Nur die furios-hymnische Qualität fehlt ein wenig, die etwas zurückhaltenden Momente stehen dem Song aber sehr. Am Ende bekommt „Tronen“ mit „Dödens Släktled Stiga“ sogar einen kosmischen Anstrich und schickt die Hörer*innen hinaus in die kalte Winternacht.

Das dritte Album von TROLLDOM ist tatsächlich eine faustdicke Überraschung, so kompakt, so mitreißend, so stark und relevant hätte man die Black Metal-Band nicht erwartet. Auch wenn „Tronen“ so schnell vorbei ist wie ein Blizzard, macht es Spaß und bleibt hängen. Klassikervibes versprüht das Album zwar nicht zwingend, aber dieser Mix aus VINTERLAND, alten DISSECTION, GEHENNA und KVIST funktioniert tadellos. „Tronen“ klingt dabei auch nicht wie von einem Soloprojekt performt, sondern doch recht vollständig: Gitarrist und Keyboarder Swartadauþuz schart einige starke und gar nicht so unbekannte Mitmusiker um sich, um das Bild zu vervollständigen. Keyboarder Graf Nuzawandils alias Alex Poole (u.a. MARTRÖÐ, CHAOS MOON und HÄXANU) sorgt für frostige Atmosphäre und ex-BENIGHTED-Drummer und Tausendsassa Kevin Paradis untermauert das Album mit seinem souveränen Blast Beat-Drumming. Das Line-Up wird vervollständigt durch Bassist Sortilege und Sänger Thorn, der ebenso wie Paradis den beiden Vorgängeralben Leben eingehaucht hat.

TROLLDOMs „Tronen“ modernisiert das Genre durch den wuchtigen Sound, bleibt ansonsten ursprünglich.
Mit größerer Besetzung kommt jetzt allerdings nicht mehr Epik auf. TROLLDOM werden stattdessen viel kompakter. Verglichen mit den ersten beiden Alben ist „Tronen“ erheblich kürzer, und auch die Songs kommen schnell auf den Punkt – nur „I Völvans Spår“ sprengt die Sechs-Minuten-Grenze, der Rest bleibt darunter. Und überhaupt: Der Sound klingt, verglichen mit den beiden Vorgängern, deutlich wuchtiger und moderner. Mix und Mastering aus den Empty Hall Studios machen die Musik aggressiver, aber auch etwas weniger ursprünglich. Legt man diese Modernisierung des Genres beiseite, sind da einfach sechs starke Songs, voller Furor, voller Erhabenheit. Ein starkes Album, von dem man sich gerne übertölpeln lassen darf, selbst wenn bereits zahlreiche ähnlich gelagerte Platten im Regal stehen.

Die Modern Symphonic Metal-Band MORRIGAN’S ECHOES hat mit „You Can’t Hide“ eine neue Single veröffentlicht.

„Mit ‚You Can’t Hide‘ wollten wir zwei Seiten der Angst beleuchten: den Schrecken, von jemandem verfolgt zu werden, dem man nicht entkommen kann, aber auch die düsterere Vorstellung, dass die Person, die einen verfolgt, vielleicht eigentlich man selbst ist“, erklärt die Band. „Der Song verwischt bewusst die Grenze zwischen Stalker und Opfer, zwischen Realität und Paranoia.“

Im Juli ist nach „追憶のナスカ“ mit „花鏑 -HANAKABURA“ eine weiterer Video-Clip erschienen.

„Im alten Japan gab es eine besondere Art von Pfeil namens ‚Kaburaya‘, der traditionell dazu diente, den Beginn einer Schlacht zu signalisieren. Der Titel ‚HANAKABURA‘ ist eine Eigenkreation, inspiriert von dem Bild eines Kaburaya-Pfeils, der durch fallende Kirschblütenblätter schneidet. Wir finden, dass dies der perfekte Song ist, um den Beginn unserer eigenen Schlacht und ein neues Kapitel für die Band einzuläuten“, sagt die Band.

Die Post-Black Metal / Blackgaze-Band VINTERASKE hat den Titeltrack ihres kommenden Albums „Nocturne“ veröffentlicht. Es ist das erste Album des deutschen Solo-Projekts von Alexandro Hornbogen und wird am 13. November 2026 via Naturmacht Productions erscheinen.

Der Titel des Albums wurde gewählt, weil jeder einzelne Song über Nacht entstanden ist, wodurch das gesamte Album zu einem Werk der Nacht wurde. Vorab gibt es auch ein Lyric-Video zu „Trübsal„.

Mit „The Book Of Change“ wird am 13. November 2026 das neue Album der Death / Thrash Metal-Band NECROPANTHER erscheinen. Es ist das fünfte Album der US-Amerikaner aus Denver und untersucht das Wesen der Transformation sowohl anhand des Konzepts als auch der Komposition.

„“The Book Of Change“ beleuchtet dieses Konzept der Metamorphose anhand klassischer Science-Fiction-, Horror- und Literaturwerke, darunter „Der Sturm“, „Das Ding“, „Die Fliege“, „Faust“ und das Videospiel „Rampage“. Diese Werke haben uns dazu inspiriert, etwas Neues zu erkunden, bei dem körperliche Verwandlung, Evolution, Body-Horror und die Fremdartigkeit neuer und unbekannter Dinge im Mittelpunkt stehen“, sagt Gitarrist Joe Johnson.

„The Book Of Change“ wurde von Kurt Ballou gemixt und von Alan Douches gemastert. Das Cover-Artwork stammt abermals von Max Sherman. Vorab gibt es den Opener „The Tempest“ zu hören.

Everything seems to come and go
When the light is gone 

In the early 90s, alternative rock was enjoying the peculiar experience of becoming the MTV establishment while still dressing for a poorly heated rehearsal room. The guitars were enormous, the melodies could reach the back of an arena, and private anxieties were suddenly selling in quantities that required additional warehouse space. Between the Smashing Pumpkins’ lavish distortion and Ride’s buoyant rush, there was plenty of room for a song to stretch its legs and get carried away. Milan’s The Backlash taps into that appetite for that daydream excess on Frame, letting heavy riffs, a rolling bassline, and airy vocals take the scenic route across seven minutes.

Premiering here ahead of its October 30, 2026 release through Elefante REC, the single brings together the heavy guitar attack of Smashing Pumpkins, the rolling momentum of Ride, and a generous helping of Britpop melody. It also offers another look at the Milanese quartet’s forthcoming album, Montage, arriving November 20 through the same label.

The opening guitar figure has the thick, overdriven heft of Cherub Rock, with a bass groove underneath that draws the music toward Ride’s more propulsive territory. That connection becomes clearer in the vocals, whose melodic ease recalls Going Blank Again: the singing gives the ear something to follow as the guitars grow increasingly expansive. There is a distinctly 1993 feel to the combination, particularly in the balance between the riff’s physical weight and the tune’s effortless lift. Over just more than seven minutes, repetition gives the band room to push those elements further, allowing their psychedelic inclinations to stretch out.

The lyrics follow a cycle of disappearance and return, asking to be brought back from a fall and promising to keep calling someone’s name. Light goes away and returns, cold wind disturbs the water, and a bell rings as the singer remains caught inside a frame. The closing repetitions leave him waiting, still reaching toward someone who remains beyond him.

“‘Frame’ is essentially a live recording,” says Francesco Lucà, the band’s guitarist, singer and songwriter. “It lasts about seven minutes, exactly as it is played on stage. The interesting thing is the contrast between what remains when it’s stripped back and what it becomes with the whole band: acoustically, it almost emerges as a psych/melodic song (the band’s internal reference is The Beta Band’s ‘Dry the Rain’), while live it becomes a crescendo of volume, repetition and epicness. The lyrics also lend themselves well to representing this phase: they’re about things that disappear and return, about light going away and being brought back, about still being there, waiting. Without wanting to turn it retrospectively into a song ‘about the band’, it’s hard not to see a certain resonance with the moment the album was born.”

Frame (Single) by The Backlash

Alongside Lucà, The Backlash features Alessio Gatto on guitar and vocals, Corrado Carnevali on bass and backing vocals, and Giuseppe Musto on drums. Their discography includes the albums Mindtrap (2018) and Rise (2023). European tours have brought them to Liverpool’s Cavern Club, as well as sharing bills with We Are Scientists, The KVB, and The Academic. Released in collaboration with Flux MGMT, *Montage* follows the singles “Traces” and “Built To Survive.”

Written by Lucà and produced and arranged by the band, “Frame” was recorded and mixed by Lucà at RBS Studios in Milan in 2025, then mastered by James Aparicio. Renée Kohl created the artwork.

It’s impossible to see 

Pleasure can make an unreliable compass. Follow it far enough and pain starts to feel inviting, confinement becomes comforting, and the distinction between escape and oblivion grows less certain. Montreal trio SEXSOMNIA examine that uneasy surrender on Subspace, setting the body’s contradictory signals against two bass guitars and a cold electronic beat.

The accompanying video for Subspace unveils SEXSOMNIA’s first new material since their August 2025 EP, Forbidden, offering a tantalizing first glimpse of Raven(ous), their forthcoming EP, due in early 2027.

Subspace opens with eerie synth pads and chilly electronic exhales before a deep synthesizer melody meets the dark, supple movement of post-punk bass guitar. The percussion establishes a steady, insistent pattern, leaving room for the low-end melodies to develop. Around fifty seconds in, additional coldwave textures and feminine moaning samples heighten the sense of anticipation. Nearly a minute passes before Philip Faith makes his entrance, his smoldering gothic delivery lending the words the measured cadence of an incantation.

For all the sampled sensuality surrounding him, Faith takes the sole lead-vocal role for the first time on a SEXSOMNIA single. Earlier releases drew on the contrast between his dark, gravelly register and feminine guest vocals; here, he moves between exposed, vulnerable phrases and a more commanding delivery. Mastered by Martin Bowes of ATTRITION at The Cage Studios, the track gives the band’s dual bass guitars room to carry the melody beneath its atmospheric electronics.

The lyrics describe physical sensation becoming unreliable: skin feels alien, movement gives way to restraint, and pain gradually becomes pleasure. Heat and cold coexist as the body waits for release, while breathlessness and the desire for an embrace draw the speaker further inward. By the closing repetitions, temporary relief has become a wish to remain inside that altered state forever.

Faith explains:

“Subspace is a voyage into the in-between realm of pure, unaltered pleasure, bliss, abandonment and ecstasy; a place where nothing can affect or harm you. But there is a danger in confusing the numbness and perfection of this state with reality. Subspace is the Eden of the senses.”

The video gives that Eden a distinctly biomechanical appearance. Blue-lit figures with metallic-looking skin move among corrugated tubes, their hands passing across faces and bodies in scenes of close, otherworldly intimacy. The Giger-inspired imagery turns physical attraction into something both alluring and faintly threatening, matching the song’s uncertainty about where pleasure ends and confinement begins.

Between these encounters, the band performs through thick haze and saturated magenta, cyan, and white light. Bass players become silhouettes, Faith stretches his arms towards the camera, and close-ups catch the long, pointed metal fingers of his glove. The contrast between the vivid performance footage and the colder, enclosed scenes gives the song’s promises of release an unsettling visual counterpart.

Founded in Montreal in October 2021 by Philip Faith with Pat Gaudette, and joined soon afterward by Michael K. Rien, SEXSOMNIA put two bass guitars at the melodic center of their music. Their early post-punk and proto-goth foundations meet electronic rhythms and synthesizers, with influences spanning The Cure, Joy Division, Propaganda, Giorgio Moroder, Trentemøller, and Ladytron.

Their debut album, Transcendent, appeared in 2024 through France’s Manic Depression Records. Last year’s Forbidden EP featured guest vocalists Marita Volodina of Poland’s Stridulum and Isabelle Young, alongside an ATTRITION remix.

Da hatte ich diese Tage noch eine feine EP/CD mit 8 Tracks/40 Minuten Spielzeit der AOR/80s Rockband VIOLET aus Baden Württemberg erhalten. Die Truppe wurde u.a. von Gitarrist MANUEL HELLER, FILIP KUZANSKI an den Keys, ERIC HANHART am Bass in 2019 gegründet, neu kam noch MAURICE PROBST an den Drums dazu. Die Hardrock-Band mit der aparten, stylischen Frontfrau und Rockröhre JAMIE BECKHAM produziert authentischen 80s-AOR,  mit melodisch eingängigen Keyboard-getragenen Hooks und einem absoluten Gespür für melancholisch, nostalgische Sound-Welten wie in der Live Überballade „Arms Around“ – eigentlich ein Song für Radioeinsätze und Stadionkonzerte. Das Debütalbum aus 2022 „Illusions“ konnte schon wie in den USA und Japan, vollends überzeugen und der Nachfolger aus 2024 „Mysteria“ mit der großartigen Single „Angelina“ ( Talk to Me) erreichte schnell eine sechsstellige Klick-Zahl auf You Tube und begeisterte die Fans – sogar in Schweden und Schweiz in den ITunes Rock Song Charts. Die Gruppe klingt auf der EP einfach noch gereifter als bisher und man beachte auch die coolen Videos auf You Tube. Zwischen poppigen Melodic Rock und kraftvollen Stadionharmonien haben die 5 Schwaben  phänomenale Klangwelten geschaffen, die Retro Carme mit modernen und absolut zeitlosen Hard Rock in ihren Songs vereinen. Das ist mal ganz großes Kino der besonderen Art. Der Mix aus 80`s „Woman Voice“ und Rockbands wie VIXEN, STARSHIP, LITA FORD, HEART, LEE AROON, ROBIN BECK, aber auch NIGHTWISH, WITHIN TEMPATION, EVANESCENCE für den opulenten, hymnischen Teil ist zwar nicht neu, wird hier aber voller Enthusiasmus im Hier und Jetzt zelebriert und von den Künstlern total ausgelebt. Auf der EP wurden nun 4 neue Tracks veröffentlicht, wie z.B. der 80s Smasher „Calling For You“, das bisher nur digital präsentiert wurde, zudem noch 3 Live-Songs von der „Mysteria“ Live Release Party 2024, z.B. mit der oben erwähnten großen Hymne „Arms Around“! Die Demo-Version von „Fall In Love“ ist eine andere, ganz frühe Version von „I Don`t Want To Fall In Love“  von der „Mysteria“ Platte. Wer also die oben genannten Bands zu schätzen weiß und zu seinen Lieblingen zählt, sollte sich die Hard Rock-Nachwuchshoffnung VIOLET auf gar keinen Fall, vor allem nicht Live entgehen lassen.
