Die Metalcore / Alternative Metal-Band GORE. hat einen Labeldeal bei Spinefarm unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen haben die US-Amerikaner aus Texas ihre neue EP “A Bud That Never Blooms” veröffentlicht. Es ist der erste Release der 2023 von Sängerin Haley Roughton gegründeten Band und sei eine persönliche Erkundung der Komplexität von Weiblichkeit.

“A Bud That Never Blooms” wurde in den Miserable Productions Studios aufgenommen und von Cody Stewart gemixt. Release-Termin ist der 24. Oktober 2024. Mit “Heaven Is Above Me” gibt es nun einen Video-Clip. Zu “Babylon” ist bereits im August ein Video-Clip erschienen.

“”Babylon” handelt von meinem Wunsch nach einer reinen, eher traditionellen Liebe“, sagt Haley Roughton. “Der Traum von einem starken und liebevollen Ehemann, mit Kindern und einem bedingungslos liebenden Zuhause, das das Zentrum meines Universums ist (und das, was ich in meiner Kindheit vermisst habe). Im Laufe der Jahre und all der Beziehungen, die ich nicht aufrechterhalten konnte, hat sich dieser Traum noch nicht erfüllt. Dieser Song ist die Lobeshymne auf diesen Traum.”

Da darf man doch gerne das alte Bandlogo ausgraben: Das 30-jährige Jubiläum ihres Zweitwerks „Tales From The Thousand Lakes“ feiern AMORPHIS mit Stil. Keine bloße Neuauflage, sondern ein Live-Dokument hat man aus dem Archiv gezogen, um den Meilenstein in die Neuzeit zu holen. Das ist wörtlich gemeint, denn obwohl der Mitschnitt aus dem Jahr 2021 seinerzeit pandemiebedingt ohne Publikum entstand, entspricht der Rest der Aufnahme in so ziemlicher jeglicher Hinsicht modernen Standards.

Der Soundmix der Performance ist selbstverständlich druckvoll und transparent, während Tomi Joutsen am Mikro eine gewohnt fabelhafte Leistung abliefert. Die wenigen klar gesungenen Passagen wie in „Into Hiding“ oder der Dreingabe „My Kantele“ vom „Elegy“-Album (1996) intoniert der Frontmann mit tiefer und voller Stimme, während die markanten Growls mit donnernder Macht über uns hereinbrechen.

AMORPHIS behandeln ihr Frühwerk mit dem nötigen Respekt
Für Fans der ersten Stunde lässt sich derweil sogar Gitarrist Tomi Koivusaari zu ein paar roh-röchelnden Grunzern verleiten, um dem erwähnten „Into Hiding“ sowie dem Klassiker „Black Winter Day“ eine Prise 90er-Flair zu schenken. Indem man ansonsten sogar Keyboards und Bass ihren Raum zugesteht, ist „Tales From The Thousand Lakes (Live At Tavastia)“ wohl noch vor “Magic & Mayhem” (2010) die beste Möglichkeit, das Frühwerk der Finnen in einer zeitgenössischen Interpretation zu erleben.

Dabei gehen AMORPHIS glücklicherweise weitgehend originalgetreu und mit dem nötigen Respekt vor. Die Gitarren in „First Doom“ klingen herrlich oldschool, im vorausgegangenen „The Castaway“ ringen Folk- und Hammond-Sounds um unsere Aufmerksamkeit und die prägnante Gitarrenführung von „Drowned Maid“ bewahrt sicher den Hitcharakter des Stücks.

Fragwürdig ist somit einzig die Veröffentlichungspolitik selbst: Schon im Vorjahr gab es mit „Queen Of Time (Live At Tavastia 2021)“ ein komplettes Studioalbum aus derselben Session als Live-Veröffentlichung. Zumindest Sammlern gegenüber ist die häppchenweise Bereitstellung der Streaming-Konzerte somit kein feiner Zug, für den AMORPHIS aber zumindest diesmal eine passable Ausrede parat halten: Immerhin feiert man 2024 das Jubiläum eines absolut wegweisenden Death-Metal-Klassikers, dem somit völlig zu Recht die komplette Aufmerksamkeit zuteilwerden soll – von der Musik bis zum geliebten Bandlogo der ersten Stunde.

Die Heavy / Post-Rock-Band ORBITER hat nach dem Video-Clip zu “Time Rips” mit “This Must Be The Place” einen zweiten Track ihres kommenden Albums “Distorted Folklore” veröffentlicht. Es ist nach “Southern Failures” (2019) das zweite Album der US-Amerikaner aus Florida und folgt der 2022er-EP “Head Wounds” nach.

“Distorted Folklore” ist ein lockeres Konzeptalbum, und im Laufe der Songs wird der Hörer auf eine Reise mitgenommen, auf der der Protagonist seinen Verstand in Frage stellt und mit Verlust, Isolation, Herzschmerz, Drogensucht und dem Zusammenbruch der Gesellschaft kämpft, bis er schließlich an den Rand einer existenziellen Krise gerät.

Das Album wurde gemeinsam mit Jonathan Nuñez (SHITSTORM, Ex-TORCHE) im Sound Artillery Studio in Miami aufgenommen und wird am 8. November 2024 via Salvaged Records erscheinen.

Die Melodic Black Metal-Band MISANTHROPIA hat einen Labeldeal bei WormHoleDeath Records unterschrieben. Im Zuge haben die Niederländer aus Nijmegen ihr neues Album “Envy The Dead” veröffentlicht. Es ist das fünfte Album der Band und folgt dem 2020er-Album “Convoy of Sickness” nach. Produziert wurde das Album abermals von Mike Wead (KING DIAMOND, MERCYFUL FATE).

Release-Termin ist der 6. September 2024. Nach dem Video-Clip zu “River Dumplings” ist mit “Prosperity By Cocaïne” nun ein weiteres Lyric-Video erschienen. Zuvor gab es mit “Fade Into The Abyss” ein Lyric-Video. Der Song zeichnet ein erschreckendes Porträt von Mary Ann Cotton, einer berüchtigten englischen Serienmörderin aus dem 19. Jahrhundert, und betont ihre Rolle als trügerische und tödliche Figur, deren Vermächtnis an Schrecken und Leid bis heute nachwirkt.

Yet, they sidestep simple revivalism, blending that vintage pulse with electrifying, modern beats. Their sound defies confines, skillfully merging grit with bold invention, forming a thrilling synthesis that’s as fresh as it is fearless.

Black Light District calls upon this retrofuturism with its magnetic pull. The band’s second album pulls listeners into a world as dark as it is beguiling, a place where shadows cradle intrigue and touch upon a strange kinship, a whisper of love’s tenderness amidst isolation.

“This album for us is like a journey back to the 80s, to the music we would have loved in that decade and which we still love to hear and to make,” says Reed.

This kind of love grows roots in places it shouldn’t reach, tangling with your better judgment, throttling reason with its grip. It’s a vice that whispers sweetly, promising release, only to tighten the noose. In the end, you’re left holding onto a thing that gnaws at you, bleeding you dry while smiling back – because the worst part of all is that you still don’t want to let go.

Philadelphia’s Cigarettes for Breakfast stirs up shoegaze with a raw, bone-deep energy, wrapping dense layers of sound around each heart-torn lyric. Their songs bring forth the gauzy spirit of shoegaze giants like My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive, yet there’s something distinctly their own, a fresh, iridescent spark igniting the familiar dreamy haze. Every performance spills over with a kind of electric yearning—thick waves of reverb crashing against walls of fuzz, while lyrics drift like echoes, steeped in a relentless longing.

The brainchild of Matt Whiteford, with a rotating roster of members and collaborators, has grabbed listeners’ hearts, shifting from the DIY music scene to sharing stages with Slow Crush, The Asteroid No. 4, and Day Aches. After several EPs and singles, Cigarettes for Breakfast released a debut LP, Join the Circus in 2023, showcasing their knack for exploring love, loss, and self-discovery, taking listeners on a wild ride through raw emotions.

Slow Motion is set to be released in February of 2025.

In the murky depths of Bloomington, Indiana, Twice Dark took form—a spectral creation, a shadow stitched from the imaginative fabric of Josh Kreuzman in 2020. This dark, pulsing entity—half gothic ghost, half industrial storm—threw roots into strange soil, its music a dense blend of goth, industrial pulses, and electronic rhythms that collide with Italo disco, deathrock, cold wave, and dark wave textures.

Kreuzman’s sound experiments were always steeped in mystery, yet now, with the release of the single Telekinetic, Twice Dark drifts towards the kinetic allure of synthpop. Grief settles over a soul like the weight of an old quilt, one so heavy it takes the breath. It isn’t loud—it’s quiet, relentless, whispering from dark corners, tugging softly at thoughts until they fray. There’s an ache in losing, a wound that time knows but never really mends. Grief drags a person inward, into shadows we’d rather ignore, forcing us to meet pieces of ourselves we’d buried alongside the departed.

Some days, it feels easier to surrender, to drift in the current of sorrow, letting it take hold. But there’s another part—a flicker, small as a flame in winter—that fights to reach the light. It knows that even amidst the darkest ache, there’s strength to be found in quiet resilience. With each step forward, grief loosens its grip, and though scars remain, we find that the path forward, though blurred, is still there, just waiting.

Washington, DC, post-punk and alternative rock stalwarts Strange Boutique are back with a new single and video that grapples with this tough part of life with The Night Birds.

The song drifts through the deep, dark night, where thoughts swirl like a storm, restless and wild. Rooted but yearning, the voice stands on uneasy ground, bracing against silence thick as fog, and a fear that presses like night’s shadow. Familiar faces linger, pulled from memory, each touch and glance a flicker on the edge of sight. Beneath a watchful moon, a longing hums—constant, insistent—binding heart and mind against sleep’s soft lure. Monica Richards’ effervescent voice, hovering sweetly around the bluesy guitars, brings to mind a Lynchian soundtrack, as she launches into the beautiful, anthemic chorus.

Filmmaker Sara T. Gama casts this song’s world as a shimmering short film, starring Amanda Davis. The screen becomes a hazy realm of deep color and pulsing light, worked to strange effect by Jen Meller, who paints each frame in fleeting hues. Strange Boutique drifts through this world like phantoms, the otherworldly dreamscape caught somewhere between memory and myth, neither bound by time nor place.

Strange Boutique rose out of the ashes of DC’s hardcore scene in the late 1980s, crossing barriers with the nebulous genre.

Between 1987 and 1994 the band released four full-length albums and two live albums with Bedazzled Records and also appeared on several compilation albums. Strange Boutique’s farewell performance took place at the Black Cat in Washington D.C. in November 1993. When Strange Boutique ended, the band scattered across the country and found new creative outlets … singer Monica Richards moved to Los Angeles and formed Faith and the Muse; guitarist Fred “Freak” Smith played in Blaxmyth, and bassist Steve Willett joined DC guitar ensemble Tone. Fred “Freak “Smith fell on dire straits, ended up homeless, and was tragically murdered in August of 2017.

What started as a means to some closure and a proper send-off for the beloved guitarist led to the first Strange Boutique show since 2004. In June of 2019, Strange Boutique rose from the ashes to a full house at a DC club for an evening of music, toasts, and a celebration of the life of a lost friend. While rehearsing with drummer Rand Blackwell and guitarist Dennis Kane, it became apparent that even after an extended hiatus and with a revamped line-up, … being Strange Boutique came naturally. The warm reception for the new lineup playing the old songs and the joy of playing together made the decision to write new material an easy one.

Circumstances collided and colluded, and for the first time in over twenty years there is new Strange Boutique music to share. Monica Richards, Steve Willett and Dennis Kane carry the torch now, riding the wave of an unexpected renaissance. David Christian joins them on drums for this track.

Der neue Song der Süddeutschen fordert zu einer neuen Sicht auf unsere (Sehn)Sucht nach Leben auf. Aufgenommen wurde die Nummer unter Leitung von Markus Stock (The Vision Bleak, Empyrium), veredelt durch die Stimme von Gastsänger Sebastian Lohse (ehemals Letzte Instanz) und mit einem stimmungsvollen Clip bebildert von Regisseur Ommar Gutierrez. The life is lost in these visions
There is a peculiar darkness in nostalgia, a soft trap that seduces us with polished memories and whispers of a past that feels untouched by the grim hands of time. Yet, to become ensnared in such sentiments, to let the mind linger too long on what was, is to risk rendering the present insignificant, and the future a dim shadow. The danger lies in mistaking remembrance for progress, in glorifying what cannot be retrieved, and allowing it to fester as a hindrance, not a guide. The past, after all, is dressed in illusions of simpler pleasures and gentler sorrows, painted over with selective memory that erases the details we’d rather not recall.

To shape a future worthy of hope, one must turn from nostalgia’s siren call—a call that soothes with images of what once was, but blurs the path ahead. True progress calls for clear-eyed resolve, rooted in the lessons of yesterday without dwelling in its arms. For growth is a creature of action and the present, not of wistful gazes cast backward.

Italian darkwaver Ash Code, having paused live performances to attend to family, now return to their music with intensified fervour. Their latest track, Nostalgia, explores memory’s eerie persistence, where love fades and lives become lost in contradictions, held captive by echoes of what was. With each haunting refrain, they call nostalgia a “crime,” exposing the aching trap of lingering in past shadows and resisting the forward push toward freedom.

“The song acts as a reminder not to become trapped in nostalgia or fixated on the idea that the past was somehow better than what the future holds,” says Alessandro Belluccio. “It’s a personal message to break free from that mindset and allow myself to look forward with a sense of excitement and optimism. I’m urging myself to embrace what lies ahead with open-mindedness, seeing new possibilities and welcoming change with positivity.”

“The video aims to evoke nostalgia and wonder, like finding and playing an old cassette,” says director Elio De Filippo. “Shot with a 90s Sony Camcorder and a DIY video synth, it recreates the authenticity of the underground, where the urgency to express an idea outweighs aesthetics. Using amateur tools and analog techniques has become our style, blending sounds of the past with visions of the future.”

It’s been five years since we last heard from Silent EM, aka NYC-based musician Jean Lorenzo. While the world has changed several times over, Silent EM’s brand of incisive, cold, post-punk flavored electronics has not lost its appeal in the slightest. With that in mind, we’re pleased to announce the release of REAL LIFE, a stunning full-length LP, which is released today on DKA Records in North America and Kernkrach throughout Europe. Each edition features a unique cover designed by Lorenzo.

The album features eight tracks of caustic synth bliss, each which twist and turn at breakneck speed. Each track builds on the tense energy of the last, giving the record a passionate, yet unified feel. Highlights include the appropriately named “World of Sin,” which touches on world-weary issues, the incredibly catchy “Europa,” which features guest vocals by Q-based synth artist Xarah Dion, and “The Hunger,” which features razor sharp leads and throbbing synth bass and percussion. The record on the whole is rather politically charged, a visceral artistic reaction to the rather surreal and distressing political climate we’re experiencing on a daily basis.

The album was fully recorded and immaculately mixed in Montreal under the guidance of Xavier Paradis of Automelodi, adding a touch of the producer’s incredible flair to the recordings. This is also the first Silent EM recording to feature guitar on a handful of tracks, which call bands like A Split Second or Parálisis Permanente to mind, resulting in a refreshing and engaging combination of past and present sensibilities.

In addition to releasing the album today, Silent EM has also released a video for lead single “Institution,” shot and directed by Dino Kužnik. The video begins with a nod to the video for “Wraith” from 2019’s The Absence, but doubles down on the track’s condemnation of organized religion with a series of Catholic imagery, shadow play, and performance clips. From the rugged region of Dauphiné comes No Filter: three seasoned souls hardened by twenty years in the French black metal scene, now diving headfirst into the raw currents of punk, Oi, and coldwave. Born from a desire to break new ground, No Filter initially sang in English but soon turned to their native French, finding the language’s blunt, biting edge better suited to their message. Each track pulses with tales of violence and loyalty, nights soaked in revelry, and the stark landscapes of their rural roots.

They sing not of abstract ideals but of lived truths—of friendships forged in fire, of a countryside as wild and relentless as their sound. Their themes grip at the marrow of life’s harsher realities, throwing them into sharp relief. In every chord and verse, No Filter captures a fierce, unfiltered ode to place and people, to roots that run deep and friendships that hold fast.

Musically, No Filter finds kindred spirits among French outfits like Bromure, Syndrome 81, and Oi Boys, but they push their sound further into uncharted terrain, amplifying the synth-wave edge until it feels like an unholy union of New Order’s spectral pulse and The 4 Skins’ raw power. It’s a brew that’s strange yet stunning, rough yet unexpectedly refined—a new voice howling from the French underground. ‘Synth punk, bagarre et blousons noirs,” as the band describes themselves.

Today, the lads unleash a raw and raucous video for La Haine Nous Appartient, capturing a night where fists fly and tempers flare under the glaring lights of a local dance. With fists clenched and bulletproof vests donned, they march into a battleground of grit and bone, a place where tradition collides with pure defiance. Brothers shoulder to shoulder, they brace for the bruises, driven by loyalty, local pride, and a touch of madness. It’s a primal scene: punches aimed squarely for the jaw, voices rising in feral cries, each hit ringing with the thrill and fury of an age-old rivalry.

There is a poetry in the ferocity of the French lyrics. Fear dissolves like mist, thin as the air we breathe—no flesh, no fate, no fury can shackle us. Knuckles glint like fallen stars, clenched in fists as if cast from iron, striking without memory, without root. In the night, we’re shadow-figures, faceless and fearless, tied not to past or place. Rage is our realm. Hear the rough cadence of the street, where alley and asphalt cradle our call, fire-wrought throats hurling guttural chants. The scent of dust and desire clings; we are wild breath and broken glass, hooligans, the raw howl of the unsaved.

Faith? We burn it. The holy is a crumbling mask. Virgin relics fall as flame consumes their shrines, ashes scatter in our wake—a heresy forged in dark fire. Fists high, pride like iron, we sing to the night—no fear, no name, no allegiance but to rage, the only hymn we need.

GOV’T MULE-Frontmann WARREN HAYNES präsentiert sein Solo-Album “Million Voices Whisper” mittels der Single “Real, Real Love” bei YouTube. Reinhören ist außerdem in “Day Of Reckoning” möglich. Das Metal Punk Trio BAT veröffentlichte sein neues Album “Under The Crooked Claw” am 17. Mai 2024 via Nuclear Blast Records; enthalten sind auf der Platte insgesamt 13. Tracks. Jetzt legte die Band mit einem weiteren Musikvideo nach: “Horror Vision” bei YouTube.

Zu drei weiteren Stücken kann man sich vorab ebenfalls einen Videoclip ansehen: “Streetbanger” bei YouTube, “Rite For Exorcism” bei YouTube und “Revenge Of The Wolf“.

Sänger Ryan Waste kommentiert die Platte:

„Dieses Album entstand in dunklen Zeiten und seine Aggression spiegelt das sicherlich wider. Nick, Chris und ich hämmerten Lied um Lied in einem schmuddeligen, schimmelbefallenen Lagerhaus, um unseren Ärger über den Zustand der Welt in das zu verwandeln, was zu ‘Under the Crooked Claw’ wurde. Um den Ton für das Album zu setzen, rief ich den legendären italienischen Horror-Maestro Fabio Frizzi dazu auf, ein Intro zu komponieren, kurz bevor BATs rohe Kraft deine Ohren angreift. Während ich gleichzeitig an einem Heavy-Metal-Horror-Drehbuch mit Norman Cabrera arbeitete, teilte ich ihm einige der neuen BAT-Songs mit. Mit unserem gemeinsamen Geschmack in Film und Vision haben wir zwei Videokonzepte für das kommende Album basierend auf meinen Texten entwickelt. Das erste Angebot ist unsere Wendung einer Geschichte über einen Exorzismus, der schiefgeht, den Norman komplett an das Kreuz genagelt hat.“

BAT ist die Speed Metal-Spielwiese von Bassist und Sänger Ryan Waste (MUNICIPAL WASTE, VOLTURE), Gitarrist Nick Poulos (MUNICIPAL WASTE, Ex-CANNABIS CORPSE) sowie Drummer Chris Marshall.

Gemischt wurde “Under The Crooked Claw” von Arthur Rizk, das Mastering übernahm Joel Grind.

Ihr zweites Studioalbum “Every Second An Ocean” haben GRUNDEIS für 12. Dezember 2024 angekündigt. Erscheinen wird die Platte via UNDRESSED Records, eine Single steht nun in Form von “Distanced Far Gone” vorab zur Verfügung. Die Band erklärt zum Track:

“‘Distanced Far Gone’ war einer der letzten Songs, den wir für das Album geschrieben haben und eigentlich haben wir ihn erst im Studio so richtig fertiggestellt. Es war einer dieser Songs mit denen man ins Studio geht und vorher noch nicht genau weiß, ob sie fertig werden oder ob man sich im Studio verrennt und am Ende alles über den Haufen wirft. Irgendwann kamen wir zufällig zu dem Break nach dem Chorus und auf einmal bekam der Song ein neues Alternative Rock Feeling, das uns allen gefiel. Kein ganz fremder Planet für uns, aber noch nie bewegten wir uns so nah an diesem Orbit.“

Jacquelyn Dady, known as Nyxx, carves out her space with raw force in Gun. Like the fierce goddess from Greek myth, Nyxx stands crowned in darkness, exuding power, strength, and undeniable femininity through piercing lyrics and bold beats. Her presence is commanding, a storm gathering strength.

“Gun is an anthem of self-reliance, born from the struggle of feeling abandoned—an empowering reminder that you can rise alone,” says the artist. “The message is clear: you don’t need help or hindrance from others; your self-reliance is your greatest strength.”

Gun – Single by Nyxx

Starting out as the fiery frontwoman for a high school pop-punk band, Nyxx transformed into a solo powerhouse, debuting with the single Wicked in 2013. It wasn’t until her 2016 EP Nightmare, however, that Nyxx truly defined her sound—producing each track in her Los Angeles apartment, every note a reflection of her own relentless drive.

After a long silence, she returned in 2023, roaring back with the dreamlike hearse and the feral intensity of her collaboration with MORIS BLAK on FERAL. Her much-anticipated EP, releasing this fall under SHVDOW Records, promises to show her evolution, a testament to her resilience and creative ferocity.

Gun, the fierce first single from Nyxx’s upcoming EP salt, strikes with sharp intensity. Produced by David Dutton (genCAB) and mixed by Walter Kazmier, the track pulses with raw emotion, tapping into themes of power and defiance. Nyxx, rooted in gothpop, channels boldness…and autonomy.

As she prepares to promote salt, Nyxx sets off on a 13-date tour, beginning November 2nd at QXT’s in Newark, New Jersey. She’ll be joined by Danny Blu, known for his theatricality and intensity, along with newcomers Die Sexual, whose edge promises to stir audiences.
