Einen wunderschönen guten Abend. Das Jahr 2025 ist vorbei und es wird Zeit, die Highlights des Jahres in einem separaten Artikel zu würdigen.

Zu aller erst möchte ich mich herzlich bedanken, bei all denjenigen, die mit mir auf den verschiedenen Veranstaltungen waren, mir grandiose Musik empfohlen haben und meine Artikel gelesen haben. Ohne euch wäre das alles nicht das gleiche.

Die deutsche Melodic Death/Viking Metal Horde OBSCURITY hat den Titetrack aus ihrem kommenden zehnten Album „Ascheregen“ veröffentlicht, das am 29. Januar 2026 über Trollzorn Records erscheinen soll. Zudem Song gibt es zudem auch ein Lyric-Video. https://www.obscurity-online.de

Im Kern ist „Ascheregen“ sowohl Klage als auch Trotz – eine kritische Reflexion über den Verfall der Gesellschaft und ein Aufruf zum Widerstand gegen paternalistische und unterwerfende Konformität.

Die Black Metal-Band SIDIOUS hat nach „Crows Atop the Gallows“ und dem Lyric-Video zu „Cosmossuary“ mit dem Video zu „Bloodlust Command Infinite“ eine dritte Single ihres kommenden Albumd „Malefic Necropolis“ veröffentlicht. Es ist das vierte Album der Engländer aus London und wurde von Russ Russell produziert. Das Cover-Artwork stammt von Khaos Diktator Design. Release-Termin ist der 30. Januar 2026 via Immortal Frost Productions.

Das Martial Dark Neo Folk-Projekt von Jerome Reuter ist ja seit jeher bekannt für seinen inflationären Tonträgern-Ausstoß, aber das jetzt 2025 bzw. im 20. Jahr von ROME insgesamt gleich 8 Veröffentlichungen erschienen, empfinde ich schon ein bisschen übertrieben. Die Fans sehen das jedoch scheinbar anders und geben Jerome Reuter mit seiner Veröffentlichungs-Politik dahingehend wohl recht. „The Tower“ und „The Hierophant“ gehören jetzt irgendwie als Zwillingspaar zusammen, werden jedoch getrennt veröffentlicht, aber dann von den Fans sowieso zusammen gekauft. Beide Alben sind diesmal sehr minimalistische Werke, welche absolut tiefgründig und fast schon meditativ daher kommen. Auf den ersten Blick ähneln sich „The Tower“ und „The Hierophant“ von der reduzierten Gestaltung, Instrumentierung und musikalischen Ausführung her und man muss schon einige Geduld und Einfühlungsvermögen aufbringen, um hier die Unterschiede heraus zu hören. „The Tower“ geht dabei etwas mehr nach innen und „The Hierophant“ aus sich heraus, es bleibt jedoch immer der reduzierte Ansatz, die organische Stille und eine fast schon sakrale Atmosphäre. Es ist jedem selbst überlassen, was er aus den insgesamt 20 anmutig poetischen und nie pathetisch werdenden Songs für sich persönlich heraushört, die einerseits auf den Spuren eines jungen Leonard Cohen wandeln, andererseits vielleicht auch an den späten Douglas P. erinnern. Auch noch nach 20 Jahren ROME kommt man so kaum an dieser massive Präsenz in der Neo Dark Folk-Szene vorbei, aber eigentlich wäre jetzt mal eine Pause nicht verkehrt, damit man das ganze Material aus diesem Jahr erst einmal richtig genießen und verdauen kann! Die Metalcore-Band SPACE OF VARIATIONS hat ein neues Album angekündigt: „Poisoned Art“ erscheint am 13. Februar 2026 via Napalm Records. Der neue Track „Ghost Town“ verschafft einen weiteren Eindruck der fertigen Platte.

Zuvor veröffentlichte das Quartett mit „Halo“ sowie „Doppelgänger“ weitere Singles. In den vergangenen Monaten teilte die Band aus der Ukraine auch die Songs „Tribe“ und „Lies“.

Live erleben kann man SPACE OF VARIATIONS im Januar und Februar 2026 im Vorprogramm von DYMYTRY PARADOX.

Die Symphonic Metal-Band CORONATUS bringt am 23. Januar 2026 ihr neues Album „Dreadful Waters“ raus. Jetzt  veröffentlichte die Band die Single „Through The Brightest Blue„.

„Dreadful Waters“ wurde von Markus Stock und Mats Kurth im Klangschmiede Studio E produziert, wo Stock auch für den Mix und das Mastering verantwortlich war. Seine charakteristische Arbeit verstärkt die düster-maritime Atmosphäre des Albums.

Das Cover-Artwork von Michael Krebes fängt visuell den Abstieg des Albums ins Unbekannte ein und verbindet Mystik, Gefahr und die elementare Kraft des Wassers.

DIRKSCHNEIDER & THE OLD GANG haben mit „Propaganda“ ein weiteres Video veröffentlicht. Es folgt auf „Blindfold“ sowie „Beyond The End Of Time„. Der vorherige Track „Babylon„stammt vom gleichnamigen Album „Babylon“, das am 3. Oktober 2025 veröffentlicht wurde. Ebenfalls verfügbar ist daraus die Single „Dead Man’s Hand„.

Zuvor teilte das Projekt ein Video zu „Strangers In Paradise„:

Als ersten neuen Song stellte die Band „It Takes Two To Tango“ vor, als zweiten „Time To Listen“ und daraufhin „Hellbreaker„.

Zur Besetzung des Projektes gehören: Udo Dirkschneider, langjähriger ACCEPT-Frontmann sowie Gründer von U.D.O. und DIRKSCHNEIDER. Am 30. Januar 2026 veröffentlichen THERION ihr Live-Album „Con Orquesta“ als CD, LP und BluRay. Der Mitschnitt zeigt den Auftritt der Band mit dem  Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de México aus dem Jahr 2024 vor 11.000 ZuschauerInnen in der ausverkauften Mexico City Arena. Christofer Johnsson über Con Orquesta:

„In der Vergangenheit war unser Konzept eher so, dass THERION klassisch wurde, wobei die Band und das Symphonieorchester sich auf Augenhöhe trafen. So haben wir eine vollständig orchestrale Version eines Songs aufgenommen, die fast zu gleichen Teilen aus THERION-Songs und klassischen Auszügen bestand, die für Band und Orchester neu arrangiert wurden. Dieses Mal wollte ich jedoch einen anderen Ansatz verfolgen. Ich lud einen renommierten Dirigenten und Komponisten aus Mexiko ein, unsere Songs neu zu interpretieren, indem er neue Arrangements hinzufügte und die Originale mit dem Orchester erweiterte. Sie schrieben auch einige neue Intros und kleine Zwischenspiele, was dies zu einer wirklich authentischen mexikanischen Interpretation von THERION live mit Orchester macht.“

Nun haben THERION auch den Mitschnitt der „Draconian Trilogy“ bestehend aus „The Opening“, „Morning Star“ und „Black Diamonds“.

Vorab verfügbar ist auch „To Mega Therion“ geteilt – den Song wählte die Band ganz bewusst aus:

„‚To Mega Therion‘ ist unser Markenzeichen und der Opener unseres Albums Theli, mit dem wir bekannt wurden. Dieser Song wird für immer ein Symbol sein, wie sich THERION von einer Underground-Combo zu einer Band entwickelt hat, die damals in aller Munde war.“

Hinter NEW MISERABLE EXPERIENCE stecken keine Unbekannten: Das Alternative Synth Rock-Projekt setzt sich aus David Grossman (ex-ROSETTA), Joshua Mahesh Kost (MODEL PRISONER), Bruce McMurtrie Jr. (ROSETTA), Brett Bamberger (REVOCATION) sowie Brody Uttley (RIVERS OF NIHIL) zusammen.

Musikalisch erforscht das Quintett jedoch neue Ufer, wie die erste Single „Payback From God“ und der Clip „Ordinary People“ darlegen. Nun folgt nach „The Devil We Know“ mit „Ataraxia“ ein vierter Preview-Song.

-> >;LANTLOS fangen die "Unergründliche Leichtigkeit des Seins" so vollendet ein wie kaum eine andere Band, die unter dem Einfluss des Black Metal begann – was sich mittlerweile wie eine Million Jahre her anfühlt. Auf dem sechsten Studioalbum "Nowhere in Between Forever" führt der kreative Kopf und einziges Bandmitglied Markus Skye (früher bekannt als Markus Siegenhort alias Herbst) die musikalische Richtung des Vorgängers "Wildhund" mindestens einen Schritt weiter. "Nowhere in Between Forever“ bietet eine spirituelle Reise in die glitzernde Welt der Neunzigerjahre, als einfach alles möglich schien. Das Album bietet eine Sammlung von Hits, die fest im aktuellen LANTLOS-Sound wurzeln und zudem um Elemente aus der digitalen Klangwelt im letzten Jahrzehnt des vergangenen Jahrtausends ergänzt werden. Andererseits bietet das Album keineswegs reine Nostalgie. Wie Skye anmerkt, hat er ganz bewusst ein hohles Gefühl von Plastik und Künstlichkeit in die Songs von "Nowhere in Between Forever" eingebaut – als subtile Vorboten finsterer Zeiten am Horizont. Diese musikalischen Wendungen verbinden die lockeren, scheinbar sonnigen und sogar poppigen Alternative Rock und Metal Tracks mit der dunklen Vergangenheit von LANTLOS. Mit "Nowhere in Between Forever" bestätigen LANTLOS sowohl die stilistische Evolution ihrer letzten beiden Alben als auch ihre bemerkenswerte Fähigkeit, mit fast beängstigender Leichtigkeit fesselnde Songs und wunderschöne Melodien zu kreieren. From a distant balcony of time, we listen for signals and learn how rarely they arrive intact. Signals from a Distant Afterglow, from the upcoming album Points of Inaccessibility, reaches us the way ancient starlight reaches Earth – delayed by vast intervals, thinned by passage, altered by every medium it crosses. Rafael Anton Irisarri treats sound as astronomy treats light: as evidence rather than presence, as proof that something once burned, expanded, and sent its trace outward. What we hear is a transmission that has endured distance, loss, and distortion simply by existence.

The piece began its life inside the former Pieter Baan Centre in Utrecht, a structure built for containment and quiet. In such a place, silence carries mass. Bowed guitar tones accumulate with patience, stretching through corridors and sealed rooms, settling slowly as if obeying an unseen force. Each sustained note widens the sense of duration. Time elongates. Space listens.

Alongside this process, Dutch visual artist Jaco Schilp developed real-time point-cloud projections, driven by a continuous flow of audio data. Sound and image evolved together, responding as shifting fields of signal and interference. Forms appeared, dissolved, and reassembled, never fixed long enough to be possessed. Perception became provisional.

The material later moved to Irisarri’s New York studio, where reduction became an act of care. Vast improvisations were narrowed to essential coordinates. Selected passages were translated into MIDI, allowing restrained harmonic extensions to surface through Prophet-5 tones, Moog bass, and finely weighted strings. Editorial guidance from Abul Mogard clarified pacing and proportion, reinforcing a condition of suspended motion—forward movement without destination.

Karen Vogt’s voice enters as a distant transmission rather than an address. It travels through layers of delay and dispersion, softened by the medium that carries it. Meaning arrives incomplete, its contours blurred. The voice functions as evidence: a broadcast received late, altered by distance, yet unmistakably alive.

At the centre of Signals from a Distant Afterglow lies a meditation on persistence. Signals continue even after their sources recede. What remains is residue rather than clarity, an afterimage rather than contact. In this music, connection survives as trace, a faint but faithful record that something once reached outward, crossed immeasurable space, and was received.

Points of Inaccessibility will be released on February 6, 2026 via Black Knoll Editions on BioVinyl and will be accompanied by audiovisual performances across Europe. Listen to Signals From A Distant Afterglow below and order the single here.

Die Modern Thrash Metal-Band SYLOSIS veröffentlicht am 20. Februar 2026 ihr siebtes Album, „The New Flesh“ erscheint damit kurz nach der Tour mit REVOCATION, DISTANT und LIFE CYCLES.

Mit „Thanks, I Hate It“ wird am 23. Januar 2026 via Exile On Mainstream das neue Album der Psychedelic Blues Post-Rock-Band GAVIAL erscheinen. Es ist das fünfte Album der Deutschen, die zuvor unter dem Namen TOURETTE BOYS firmierten. Mit „Koru Mindset“ gibt es nun eine zweite Vorab-Single.

Das neue Album sei eine Reaktion auf eine Welt in Flammen; Gesellschaften, die von Hass angetrieben werden; Technologien, die sich immer weiter vom Dienst an der Menschheit entfernen; ein wiederauflebender Militarismus; ignorierte oder nicht verwirklichte Menschenrechte; von Korruption durchsetzte Institutionen; und Individuen, die den Reichtum aller für sich beanspruchen.

Das jüngste Werk „The Tower“ ist ein wegweisendes Opus, durchdrungen von einer gereiften Klangsprache: einem radikal minimalistischen Folk-Ansatz. Ein Album, reduziert auf seine Essenz, klar konturiert, von fast asketischer Disziplin und doch von einer geheimnisvollen Fülle durchweht, wie sie nur aus tiefer Innerlichkeit erwächst.

„The Hierophant“ bildet das rätselhafte Gegenstück zum introspektiven Rückzugswerk „The Tower“. Grief arrives like a signal from deep space: ancient, delayed, undeniable. It tells us that something once luminous has moved and transformed beyond our immediate sight. In our solitude we imagine ourselves isolated points, adrift in the dark, yet every atom of us was forged in shared fires. Memory, love, and voice persist the way starlight does: long after the source has changed. The pain comes from the mismatch between what we feel and what is true. We sense connection, but cannot fully see it. Loneliness, then, is not proof of separation, but evidence of a bond too vast for our small perspective.

SRSQ (pronounced “seer skew”) returns with a ballad that moves at the speed of breath and bruise. Kennedy Ashlyn sings as if standing inside a familiar room, each phrase carried with care, each silence allowed its weight. Allen Daniel’s drums keep a patient watch, marking time while memory moves freely. At the center is Cash: Ashlyn’s best friend, gone since 2016, whose presence arrives as guidance as Ashlyn charts a course through turbulent waters. The song gathers loss by accretion: moments pressed together, love grown heavy, endurance learned the hard way. A remembered voice cuts through excess and despair, offering instruction simple enough to save a life.

“I didn’t plan to get this candid about the creation of and meaning behind this song, but recent events in my personal life have compelled me to open up a bit and share some honesty behind the lyrics,” admits Ashlyn. “I wrote this song on the edge of a pretty dark place, a place where I lived for many years, and still find myself in from time to time. I was living alone for the first time in my life in the house that I grew up in, fresh out of a nearly eight-year relationship, drinking tequila and Gatorade and banging my head against writer’s block. I had just come out of a(nother) great wave of loss (and loss, and loss) and was stumbling around in the grey ache of grief — again. Grappling with existential loneliness — again. A feeling so familiar that it sometimes feels like I was forged in it. I went to pour myself another tall glass of mostly tequila, when I suddenly heard my best friend’s voice in my ear: “Drink water.” …hearing her voice so clearly brought me to my knees. But in that brief moment of lucidity, I was reminded that she is still with me and that we are never really alone.”

The song hits hard, particularly during the holidays, when feelings of grief well up with memories of their lives. The theme behind Born Alone, Die Alone, as the title suggests, is a heavy one – but not without hope. Perhaps everything we assume to understand about the inner workings of the cosmos is merely the tip of the iceberg.

“I believe that what makes the human experience particularly difficult is our limited awareness of how connected we truly are,” Ashlyn continues. “From our perspective of being a human on this earth, we can’t understand, but I think deep down we “know”? and that dissonance is what causes us so much grief and suffering. The illusion of alone-ness is the curse of the human condition. I continue to grapple with but no longer stand behind the final refrain of this song — “we are born alone, and we die alone.” I don’t think that we die alone; I believe we die from the illusion that we ever were. I hope this song and this message brings you comfort and peace, or at the very least, brief respite from the illusion of alone-ness.”

The song leaves a small but steady truth in the listener’s hands: that Cash remains in spirit through acts of kindness and care beyond the veil; that connection survives distance and death; that sometimes staying alive begins with listening closely and choosing water over oblivion.

SRSQ is the singular vision of singer and musician Kennedy Ashlyn, an operatic post-punk siren whose work transforms private grief into shared reckoning. Emerging from a stormy sea of public tragedy with Unreality (2018), Ashlyn arrived fully formed: commanding, devotional, and unafraid of emotional magnitude. Cast ashore in Los Angeles, she learned to walk on dry land in her own two heels with Ever Crashing (2022), expanding SRSQ’s palette while solidifying a worldwide reputation as a “diva of depression.”

Now, Ashlyn is stripping away the opera gloves, taking full control of every facet of SRSQ. Shoegaze drifts into pop, drama meets directness, and the lines between artist, genre, and medium dissolve. Her work is shaped by lived loss, a guiding force that continues to surface in moments of clarity and care. Rather than accepting isolation as fate, SRSQ questions the illusion of aloneness, reaching beyond the underground toward connection, recognition, and relief.

It is with a heavy heart that we report the passing of long-term Cure guitarist and keyboardist Perry Bamonte at age 65 after a short illness. The news was originally reported on social media on 12/25 and officially confirmed by the band this afternoon. The Cure’s Robert Smith shared these touching words:

QUIET, INTENSE, INTUITIVE, CONSTANT AND HUGELY CREATIVE,
‘TEDDY’ WAS A WARM HEARTED AND VITAL PART OF THE CURE STORY.

Bamonte, also known as “Teddy,” first began his musical career playing guitar for Southend punk bands Spirits and The School Bullies. His first recording was as a member UK deathrock/psychobilly band Anorexic Dread. Performing under the pseudonym “Leonard De Finchie,” Bamonte would record one 12” single with the band, 1984’s “Tracey’s Burning” and would play at the infamous Batcave club.

Bamonte then began his storied tenure with The Cure in 1984, when he joined the band’s road crew during the touring cycle for The Top at the encouragement of his brother Daryl. He served as Robert Smith’s guitar technician and personal assistant between 1984 and 1989, and it was during this time that Bamonte learned to play piano and synthesizer, taught by Smith’s sister Janet. When keyboardist Roger O’Donnell left the band in 1990, Bamonte became an official member of The Cure, performing synths, six string bass, and additional guitar. While Bamonte appeared on the cover for the 1990 single Never Enough, his first true outing with the band was 1992’s Wish, where he added to the album’s lush soundscapes and penned wistful fan favorite “Trust.”

His versatile and atmospheric playing can be heard throughout The Cure’s next few records, including 1996’s Wild Mood Swings (Bamonte also wrote “This is a Lie,” another stunning album track), 2000’s underrated Bloodflowers, and 2004’s self-titled record. He also performed on the seminal live records Paris and Show in 1992, as well as appeared in 1991’s Play Out and 2002’s Trilogy home videos. Bamonte left the band in 2005, shortly after the Curiosa Festival wrapped up. He would keep a low profile for the following years, developing a career as an illustrator and enjoying fly fishing in his off-time, also performing as the bassist of UK alternative supergroup Love Amongst Ruin with Steve Hewitt of Placebo from 2012-2015.

Bamonte was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Cure in 2019, and returned to the stage as a live member in 2023 to perform on the Shows of a Lost World tour, contributing his trademark blend of guitar, keyboards, and six string bass throughout the tour. He most recently can be seen and heard performing on the recent theater and DVD release of  The Show Of A Lost World (Troxy Live 2024), which documents a thrilling 3+ hour live set on the eve of The Cure’s latest album release for Songs of a Lost World.

We wish all the best to Bamonte’s friends and family during this difficult time, and will always cherish his incredible contributions to one of the world’s most singular and special of bands.

Released at the tail end of 1983, Collapsing New People marked a pressure point at which a decade began to fold in on itself. That persistence becomes clear immediately in its afterlife: on December 25, 2025, German musician Daniel Knutz issues a reinterpretation of the song, offered quietly as a gift and set loose for new listeners. This gesture frames the original song as a living report; one that keeps finding fresh ground on which to stand.

In the brief, volatile arc of Fad Gadget (Francis John Tovey by birth), the track lands with uncommon clarity. Berlin breathes through it: divided streets, iron air, work rhythms repeating until meaning thins. Social strain, architectural stress, and psychological fatigue gather here, compressed into a few unblinking minutes.

Seen from a distance, the song reads as an early signal flare for where the music styles of the 1980s would go: synth-driven pop would soon smooth its surfaces; industrial music would harden its stance. Collapsing New People lives in the brief overlap. Earlier Fad Gadget recordings leaned toward shock or satire; this one settles into something cooler, after emotion processes into numb familiarity. The title carries its own blunt intelligence. It bends the language toward Tovey’s contemporaries Einstürzende Neubauten, whose name translates as “collapsing new buildings.” This was alignment by instinct rather than mimicry; where Neubauten turned attention outward – to steel, concrete, demolition – Tovey traced the fault line inward, following what happens to people shaped inside systems that prize efficiency over endurance. (And, to be fair, Tovey was also poking a bit of fun at the goth subculture, particularly in places like The Batcave.)

Recorded at the legendary Hansa Tonstudio, the original song captured Berlin at a hinge moment as the city stood suspended between histories, restless with creative friction. Echoing that, Tovey and drummer Nick Cash’s mechanical patterns marched forward, looping industrial textures ticking with factory logic. Movement arrives stiffly; any dance moves to this particular number respond in short, angular gestures.

Tovey’s lyrics abandon plot for assessment. The “new people” carry no promise of renewal; they arrive manufactured, sorted, fed back into systems that reward constant adjustment and offer little shelter. Repetition does the work of explanation, as the lines circle, return, repeat: language mirroring industrial labour and broadcast messaging until identity begins to fray through overuse. The phrase new people stays unsettled, hinting at progress, redesign, and technological faith…but paired with collapsing, it turns diagnostic. These figures inherit new tools, new economies, new doctrines, yet receive no protection from their consequences. The future stands present tense, already misfiring.

That continuity sharpens in Daniel Knutz’s 2025 reinterpretation, viewed now through contemporary darkwave space. He preserves the skeleton of Fad Gadget’s original, including the unmistakable glass bottle percussion and stark synthesizer figures, while thickening the atmosphere around it. Textures deepen, low-end weight settles in. Industrial accents arrive with restraint. Knutz’s vocals keep a measured distance, ritual in tone, allowing the song’s emotional compression to expand (without collapse!).

The single is issued as a personal gift in memory of his grandmother, Olga Caetano, who was supposed to celebrate her birthday on 25 December, and for the underground subculture and future generations to keep the Fad Gadget home fires burning.

“I offer this as a gift — a small torch to keep Fad Gadget, to keep Frank Tovey, breathing for new generations,” says Knutz. “This song struck me in the chest like a revelation; I remade it so that dark pulse may find new hearts. I release it on December 25th for Olga – for the afternoons in her studio and the quiet lessons she left me.”

Collapsing New People by Daniel Knutz Time bends here, rather than closes. A Berlin document from 1983 passes through new hands, carrying its weight intact, still speaking in the same measured language of systems, bodies, and the cost of progress.

The single appears on streaming platforms December 25, released without a fixed price and open to listener donations. It also gestures forward: multiple releases slated for 2026, anticipated European live dates, and forthcoming label collaborations.
