Casket Cassette’s Show Me a Sign is a song that illuminates the soul like a busted strip of Los Angeles nightlife, all neon nerves and cheap salvation. Constant Laval Williams has made a fine little art out of sounding stranded in public, which is harder than it sounds. Plenty of singers can do lonely. Fewer can do lonely while the beat is still carrying everybody’s boots across the dancefloor.

This is the third new song from REDUCER, out June 12. Show Me a Sign is all reduction: emotion boiled until it stains the pan, desire shaved down to the bare request, survival turned into something blunt enough to fit in one hand. There is no grand cathedral of misery here, no velvet cape dragged theatrically through dry ice. The song wants a signal, a room, a body, a way back from whatever distance has turned the song’s protagonist cold and old before his time.

Show Me a Sign channels the Medusa, Twist of Shadows, and Creatures era Clan of Xymox in its dusky romantic architecture, Cold Cave in its sleek black propulsion, and the frozen passion of The Danse Society and Pink Turns Blue, but Casket Cassette is smart enough to understand that influences should behave like a ghost at the bar, present but never picking up the tab. And the track moves with the clean, severe confidence of a dark priest descending inward into an icy sanctum, torchlit and severe, conjuring unspeakable visions as Williams’ voice cuts through the darkness.

Lyrically, the song circles distance, exhaustion, and the stubborn will to continue after comfort has abandoned the room. The plea for a sign feels less like romantic longing than a last candle held against the cold, a small act of devotion made under pressure. Casket Cassette turns that ache into body music for the damaged and devout, for people who have been through Hell and back again and lived to tell the tale.

Mixed by Matia Simovich at Infinite Power Studios and mastered by Stefan Brown at Abbey Road Studios, Show Me a Sign has a polished chill; every element has been placed with surgical precision: the beat advances, the synths flare and recede, and the vocal keeps its eyes open. The song’s desperation lands because it is sharpened rather than softened, with the production giving the plea force, shape, and urgency.

Every life eventually arrives at the same locked door: the one behind which the meaning of it all is supposed to be waiting. As the years burn, we gather love, pleasure, machines, money, memories, and little mementos of our existence, only to find the old questions still standing there, untouched, and unanswered. With “All We’ve Known of Heaven,” Soft Vein turns that existential ache into a sleek new wave confession, one lit by bright synths, bruised romance, and the uneasy knowledge that abundance does not always equal salvation.

The second single from his forthcoming album, Chekhov, continues Justin Chamberlain’s recent evolution into a more refined, sophisticated synthpop silhouette. Where earlier Soft Vein material often leaned heavily into darkwave gloom, “All We’ve Known of Heaven” moves with a more cinematic sense of yearning: a sighing, almost church-like introduction opening into a pulsing bass synth, rippling electronics, and a breathy vocal performance that feels suspended between confession and surrender.

Taken from Soft Vein’s forthcoming album Chekhov, the song follows the previously released title track in placing Chamberlain’s voice and writing at the center. The production, co-produced by Chamberlain with Andrea Mantione of Nuovo Testamento, has the sheen of expensive glass and the anxiety of someone staring straight through it. There is an unmistakable 1980s charge here: a nocturnal, Michael Mann-like glow; the elegant propulsion of new wave pop; and vocal harmonies that call to mind the grand emotional sweep of Simple Minds without slipping into too much of their new gold sheen.

Lyrically, “All We’ve Known of Heaven” circles the elegant catastrophes of modern life: desire, consumption, spiritual exhaustion, the little betrayals people commit simply to keep moving. The song asks what remains when everything has been acquired except meaning. Its central question — “Is this all we are?” — becomes less a cry of defeat than a flare sent into the cogs of our disconnected digital existence, in search of a sign of life beyond our modern appetites and illusions.

That tension gives the track its strange pull. Soft Vein writes about a world in which modern convenience has multiplied beyond imagination — machines for pleasure, endless means of contact, every appetite fed on command — yet we seem no closer to one another, and no nearer to knowing anything like heaven. The song understands excess as both seduction and trap: the comfort that dulls us, the desire that divides us, the little betrayals people commit while searching for warmth in the wrong rooms. By the time Rachel Mazer’s saxophone arrives near the finale, it feels like a final flare of feeling inside all that machinery: romantic, wounded, and gone almost as soon as it appears.

Mastered by Jason Corbett of ACTORS, “All We’ve Known of Heaven” suggests a Soft Vein expanding in real time, stepping further into an 80s pop architecture while keeping a darkwave pulse beating beneath the floorboards. There is a compelling parallel in Producer Phil Thornalley’s own arc, from the Gothic depths of The Cure’s Pornography era to the gleaming new wave heights of Johnny Hates Jazz. For Soft Vein, that kind of range does not feel like a contradiction or retreat, but the natural continuum of any good artist: a movement from severity to sophistication, from dread to desire, from the basement to the bright lights without losing the ache underneath.

So ganz haben es GODTHRYMM noch nicht aus den Schatten heraus geschafft. Sie sind immer noch die Band, die damit beworben wird, dass ex-MY DYING BRIDE-Leute hier die Zügel in der Hand halten. Dabei hat Hamish Glenncross GODTHRYMM vor fast 10 Jahren gegründet und bisher vier EPs und zwei Alben veröffentlicht. Ob die Abnabelung mit dem dritten Album „Projections“ nun vollumfänglich gelingt? Immerhin, GODTHRYMM machen sich stilistisch in eine etwas neue Richtung auf: „Projections“ ist gerade am Anfang deutlich traditioneller, als es der Vorgänger „Distortions“ war.

Und doch, müsste man GODTHRYMM wider besseren Wissen verorten, man käme nirgends anders heraus als in den dunkelsten, verregneten Teilen des vereinigten Königreichs. GODTHRYMM mögen sich eher im Midtempo, denn am unteren Ende der Geschwindigkeitsskala zu Hause fühlen, aber genau daraus entsteht diese Mischung aus Epic Doom und den PEACEVILLE 3-Bands. „Projections“ will indes nicht sofort mit seinen Perlen herausrücken, beim Start mit dem recht unspektakulär riffenden und im Verlauf leicht thrashigen „Trenches Deep“ können GODTHRYMM ihrer Unentschlossenheit wegen noch nicht so recht überzeugen. Die Melancholie und der Schmerz, den der Opener von „Distortions“ bot, fehlt hier und – pardon – der stilistische Verhau dieses Songs wird vom Artwork passend in Szene gesetzt.

GODTHRYMM sitzen zwischen Epic Doom und den PEACEVILLE 3: Was eigentlich problemlos funktionieren könnte, wirkt auf „Projections“ fragmentiert.
Das größere Line-Up macht sich bei GODTHRYMM am ehesten durch das Volumes bemerkbar, Neu-Gitarrist Kris McLaughlin sorgt nicht zwingend für komplexere Gitarrenarrangements, aber für eine dichtere Soundwand. Die Hoffnung, dass GODTHRYMM noch mehr auf zweistimmige Leads setzen, bewahrheitet sich somit nicht. Das Songwriting ist nach wie vor gekennzeichnet durch Glencrosses Handschrift, und doch probiert sich der Gitarrist stilistisch ein wenig aus. Sprich: Mehr CANDLEMASS, weniger MY DYING BRIDE, mehr Aggression, was vor allem „Truth In My Own“ zeigt. Besonders mitreißend ist der Song allerdings nicht.

Das Blatt wendet sich ein wenig mit „The Sun Never Fell“: Mit einem atmosphärischen Gitarrenintro erzeugen GODTHRYMM ein Gefühl des Schwebens, bevor ein etwas abrupter Wechsel das Lied erst in eine unentschlossene, riffbasierte Richtung drängt, das epische, dramatische Finale des knapp neunminütigen Songs mit seinen großen Harmonien geht dann aber doch unter die Haut. Hier zeigt sich am deutlichsten, dass GODTHRYMM mit „Projections“ stilistisch ein wenig verloren sind. Alles richtig macht dann „Endure My Skin“, das vollständig aus purer britischer Schwermut besteht, inklusive eines eruptiven Finales, bei dem Aaron Stainthrope (ex-MY DYING BRIDE) als Gast garstige Growls ausspeien darf.

Die magischen Momente auf „Projections“ müssen mitunter etwas gesucht werden: Erst ab dem dritten Song finden GODTHRYMM ihre Form.
Mit einer Spielzeit von 45 Minuten ist „Projections“ relativ kurz, und vielleicht ist das der Grund, warum das Album nicht so recht ins Fließen kommen will. GODTHRYMM wirken auf ihrem dritten Album insgesamt zu fragmentarisch, sowohl aus Sicht der Songs, als auch aus Sicht des Gesamteindrucks. Dazu gehört auch, dass anfangs Hamish Glencross als Sänger im Vordergrund steht und seine Frau Catherine im Hintergrund zu hören ist, während es sich ab „Jewels“ dreht und Catherine den Leadgesang übernimmt. Gerade dieser Song wirkt auch etwas abrupt in den Stimmungswechseln und würgt so die schöne melancholische Grundstimmung ab. Das abschließende „Hope Is Eternal“, das zwischen den doomigen Momenten auch einige schnelle Momente verzeichnet, und gerade sich mit epischen Leads a là Greg Mackintosh ins Gehirn fräst, funktioniert dann glücklicherweise doch von Anfang bis Ende.

Insgesamt ist „Projections“ leider ein durchwachsenes Album geworden, auch wenn viele berührende Momente und einige starke Songs darauf zu hören sind. GODTHRYMMs relative Ziellosigkeit auf ihrem dritten Album macht es schwer, in die Musik zu finden. Handwerklich geht „Projections“ indes völlig in Ordnung. Hamish Glencross ist ein solider Gitarrist und beherrscht die Kunst der mitreißenden, prägnanten Riffs, während Shaun Taylor-Steels als Drummer sich wie üblich absolut sattelfest präsentiert. Hamish Glencross selbst klingt als Sänger ein wenig nach Nick Holmes Mitte der Neunziger, was gut zum neuen, metallischeren Sound von GODTHRYMM passt, aber seine frühere Art zu singen hatte mehr Charme. Somit ist es die Stimme von Catherine Glencross, die auf „Projections“ mehr Akzente setzen kann. Alles in allem gelingt es GODTHRYMM mit diesem Album leider noch nicht aus dem Schatten der ex-Bands und Genre-Koryphäen zu springen. Schade, dabei wäre die Zeit nach dem letzten Album eigentlich reif dafür gewesen.

Mit „Something Borrowed…Something New“ ist am 5. Dezember 2025 via Rockshots Records das neue Album der Southern Rock-Band GREYSTONE CANYON erschienen. Die Scheibe folgt auf das 2025er-Debütalbum „My Gnawing Pains Will Never Rest“ nach und wurde von Randy Leboeuf produziert. Vorab gab es zum Opener „Starless“ einen Video-Clip.

„Wir haben versucht, mit dieser Veröffentlichung ein kurzes Konzept umzusetzen, wobei wir erneut religiöse Bildsprache verwendet haben“, sagt Sänger Brandon Byars. „‚Starless‘ ist der erste Teil einer zweiteiligen Geschichte, die sich mit den Folgen für diejenigen befasst, die dazu verdammt sind, nach einem Armageddon-ähnlichen Ereignis auf der Erde zu existieren. Um es klar zu sagen: Dies ist keine ‚Wende zu Gott‘-Geschichte aus der Sonntagsschule. Die Technical Death / Groove Metal-Band THE ABSOLUTION SEQUENCE hat mit „Idols of Confraternity“ eine zweite Single ihres kommenden Albums „Dread Cycle“ veröffentlicht.

„‚Idols of Confraternity‘ dreht sich um unsere angeborene Fähigkeit, schreckliche Menschen auf ein Podest zu heben“, sagt Sänger Shawn Wells. „Dabei handelt es sich um Prominente, Politiker, Influencer und religiöse Führer. Wir verehren sie wie Gottheiten, folgen ihren Trends und beobachten jede ihrer Bewegungen in der Hoffnung, darin etwas Vertrautes zu finden. All das bricht jedoch zusammen, sobald wir unsere selbsternannte ‚einzigartige‘ Schwärmerei zur Schau stellen.“

Es ist nach drei EPs das erste Album der Australier aus Tasmanien und wird am 14. August 2026 erscheinen.

„Dread Cycle“ wurde von Chris Themelco produziert und von Jens Bogren gemastert. Vorab gibt es zu „Ghost Mantra“ einen Video-Clip.

Das neue Album „Prisoner“ ist bereits fertig, aufgenommen haben es die Dänen mit Jacob Hansen im Hansen Studio. Mit dem Lyric-Video zu „Frameworker“ gibt es nun die zweite Vorab-Single.

„In ‚Frameworker‘ geht es um die unsichtbare Architektur der Wahrnehmung; der Song zeichnet nach, wie sich Sprache und Ideologie von rudimentären Ausdrucksformen zu Instrumenten entwickeln, die das menschliche Verständnis sowohl prägen als auch einschränken“, kommentiert die Band. „Was als roher Klang beginnt, wird zu einem verschlüsselten Skript, das die Linse programmiert, durch die die Realität interpretiert wird. Dieser Song hinterfragt die Konstrukte, die die Grenzen des Denkens ziehen und unsichtbare Mauern errichten, die die Welt definieren und gleichzeitig den Geist stillschweigend gefangen halten.“

Vor wenigen Wochen ist mit „Designed Despair“ auch die erste Vorab-Single erschienen.

„‚Designed Despair‘ beleuchtet die undurchsichtigen Mechanismen systemischer Unterdrückung und die Errichtung unsichtbarer Grenzen, die trennen, einschränken und zum Schweigen bringen“, kommentiert die Band. „Stimmen erheben sich aus den Randbereichen, nur um in einer Leere zu verschwinden, die geschaffen wurde, um sie zu ignorieren, während rot markierte Grenzen und hierarchische Strukturen diejenigen einfangen, die in aller Öffentlichkeit verborgen bleiben. Letztendlich spiegelt dieser Song die Realität eines Systems wider, das Wege ins Nirgendwo schafft, wo Flucht nur durch die schmalen Risse eines zerbrochenen Fundaments möglich ist.“

TEMPLE OF DREAD wurden im Jahr 2017 auf der Insel Spiekeroog von Markus Bünnemeyer mit der Absicht gegründet, dem Death Metal der alten Schule neues Leben einzudreschen. Ursprünglich ein Trio, hat sich die Band mittlerweile zu einem Quintett entwickelt. -> >;Pünktlich zum 30-jährigen Bandjubiläum legen SOLACE ihr fünftes Studioalbum "Fading Failing Ruin" vor. In dessen Songs spiegelt sich unmittelbar die musikalische Erfahrung und kompositorische Reife aus drei Jahrzehnten wider. Die scheinbare Leichtigkeit, mit der sich diese Meister-Metaller einen packenden Heavy-Track nach dem anderen aus den Ärmeln schütteln, ist beeindruckend. Inhaltlich dreht sich "Fading Failing Ruin" um apokalyptische, endzeitliche Themen, die den aktuellen Zeitgeist auf den Punkt bringen. SOLACE knüpfen dabei an die Anfangstage des Heavy Metal an, verbinden die alten Themen und Sounds jedoch geschickt mit zeitgenössischer Härte. SOLACE bezeichnen ihre ureigene Mischung aus Doom und Heavy Metal mit Hardcore-Elementen gerne als "Dirt Metal", haben sich aber auch schon die augenzwinkernde Benennung als "Shorecore" eingefangen. Letzteres beruht auf ihrer Herkunft aus dem Küstenstaat New Jersey in den USA, dessen Einwohner auch als "Shoremen" bekannt sind. Andere schlagen das Quintett aus Asbury Park bevorzugt dem Stoner Metal zu. Tatsächlich treffen all diese Beschreibungen bis zu einem gewissen Grad auf die Band zu. Mit "Fading Failing Ruin" setzen SOLACE einen neuen Meilenstein des US-Heavy Metal, der die durchaus unterschiedlichen Traditionen des Genres von beiden Seiten des Atlantiks respektiert sie zugleich aber auch in die Zukunft trägt. When some of their compatriots signed record deals with international labels, the horde from Askim deliberately acted from within the deepest underground. With a short lifespan of only 2 years, the output produced by MALFEITOR is naturally rather meagre. The releases spawned between 1991 and 1992 only consist of 1 rehearsal- and 2 demo tapes and were back in the day only spread on home-dubbed tapes in very limited quantities. Devoted to Black Metal of the rather stripped-down, minimalist style similar to early BATHORY, ILDJARN or DARKTHRONE, MALFEITOR had the potential to release a great first full-length. Unfortunately, this wasn’t destined to happen since shortly after the release of the very promising second demo Pandemonium MALFEITOR returned to the shadows from which it was conjured. The member’s contribution to Black Metal wouldn`t end with the demise of MALFEITOR, though since out of the ashes STRID and MANES (featuring Vicotnik from DØDHEIMSGARD) rose.-> >;

Dieses prallgefüllte 8-CD-Artbook versammelt nicht nur sämtliche klassischen Werke der norwegischen Black Metal Kultband, die Demos und ersten Alben, sondern sogar das bislang unveröffentlichte "1994 Demo"! LIMBONIC ART wurden im Jahr 1993 gegründet und veröffentlichten drei Jahre später ihr Debütalbum "Moon in the Scorpio" (1996) über Nocturnal Art Productions. Das Label wurde von EMPEROR-Gitarrist Samoth alias Tomas Thormodsæter Haugen betrieben, der zugriff, nachdem die Demo-Kassetten der Band sein Interesse geweckt hatten. Die damals recht einzigartige Kombination der Band aus nordischem Black Metal mit cineastischen Elementen, die von romantischer und klassischer Orchestermusik inspiriert waren, erwies sich in den Folgejahren als sehr einflussreich. LIMBONIC ART waren stets ein schwer fassbares Phänomen und galten schon damals als Kultband, da die Norweger nur sehr selten live auftraten – beispielsweise mit einem legendären Konzert beim Black Whitsun Subfestival der Jahrtausendausgabe des Wave Gotik Treffens (2000) in Leipzig. Im neuen Jahrhundert schloss sich Daemon für eine Weile ZYKLON an, bevor sich LIMBONIC ART im Februar 2003 offiziell auflösten. Im Jahr 2006 formierte Daemon die Band jedoch neu und machte im Alleingang weiter. Nach einer weiteren längeren Pause feierte die norwegische Kultband im Jahr 2024 mit ihrem neunten Album "Opus Daemoniacal" ein bemerkenswertes Comeback. Revering tradition, long-time producer Andy La Rocque have again mixed, mastered and produced, while French painter Maxime Taccardi have also once more contributed with artwork. DIVIDED YOU’LL STAND AND UNITED YOU’LL FALL marks the end of what at first seemed like a promising era for the band, but one that also ended abruptly. 33 years after its initial release in 1993, the full-length is still widely hailed for its timeless audial magic. Undoubtedly a legendary album it stands out even among MARDUK’s own discography. While Dark Endless still leaned heavily towards Death Metal and their later output frequently put emphasis on speed and brutality, it’s exactly on Those of the Unlight and its successor Opus Nocturne that MARDUK immortalized some of their most brooding and haunting compositions. Showcasing a perfect blend of dark atmosphere and unrelenting heaviness with an exceptional vocal performance by Joakim af Gravf who made his MARDUK debut on the album, songs like “Wolves”, “Burn my Coffin” or the ungodly title track will forever stand as beacons of supreme dark art.
