Am 4. Juni 2025 traten VOÏVOD mit dem Orchestre symphonique de Québec auf, für das Konzerte arrangierte die Band ein Dutzend ihrer Songs um. “Symphonique”, der Mitschnitt des Konzerts im Grand Théâtre in Québec City, erscheint am 5. Juni 2026 via Century Media Records.

Mit “Forgotten In Space (Symphonique)” stellen die Kanadier jetzt einen ersten Song des Albums vor:

 

Schlagzeuger Michel „Away“ Langevin verrät, dass VOIVOD auch in Zukunft mit einem – oder vielleicht auch mehreren – Orchestern zusammenarbeiten werden:

„Dieses Live-Album mit dem Quebec Symphony Orchestra war ein lang gehegter Traum, der Wirklichkeit geworden ist. Wir werden dieses Erlebnis 2027 mit dem Orchestre symphonique du Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean widerholen, in der Region, in der sich Voïvod 1983 gegründet haben. Wir würden diese Show sehr gerne mit lokalen Orchestern rund um den Globus präsentieren! Ich hoffe, dass euch diese epische Veröffentlichung gefällt. Bassist Dominic „Rocky“ Laroche ist noch immer ganz begeistert von der erste Single „Forgotten in Space (Symphonique)“ :

„Der Titel ‚Forgotten in Space‘ stammt aus dem Album ‚Killing Technology‘ und entführt uns in ein Science-Fiction-Universum im Stil von Mad Max. Denis „Piggy“ D’Amour ließ sich von diesem Film inspirieren, als er Teile der Originalversion komponierte. Dieses unglaubliche symphonische Meisterwerk, orchestriert von Hugo Begin, nimmt und nach einer kraftvollen Einleitung auf eine musikalische Reise mit. Bei dieser Verschmelzung von Metal und Klassik  kann man sich gut sechseinhalb Minuten lang vorzustellen, dass die Menschheit tatsächlich irgendwo irgendwann einfach im Weltraum vergessen wurde.

Wer sich schon mal mit Depressionen rumschlagen musste, kennt die graue Wolke über dem Haupt, die nicht weichen will. Kennt die Schwere, die wie Blei auf den Schultern liegt, die Hoffnungslosigkeit, die selbst den schönsten Frühlingstag aschgrau erscheinen lässt. DOODSWENS haben, wie nicht wenige andere ihres Genres ein Album darüber geschrieben, in diesem Mindset zu leben. Allerdings geht es der Black Metal-Band nicht darum, sich dem Tod hinzugeben, wie es viele der fragwürdigen DSBM-Bands tun, sondern neben ihm zu existieren. Oder, wie es in dieser Fantasy-Serie mit der schlechten achten Staffel hieß: „Wer ist unser Gott?“ – „Der Tod.“ – „Und wie lautet unser Gebet?“ – „Nicht heute.“ Okay, mehr Pathos in einer Rezension unterzubringen ist schwer möglich, angesichts eines Albums wie „Doodswens“.

„Doodswens“ ist ein transformatives Album, mit dem die Band eine ursprüngliche Kraft entstehen lässt.
Die niederländische Band, deren Name übersetzt „Todeswunsch“ bedeutet, lässt auf den ersten Blick auf ein anderes Mindset schließen: So zu leben, dass es egal ist, morgen schon der Tod wartet, weil das Leben völlig ausgekostet wurde. DOODSWENS widerstehen also, und das ist spürbar in der Energie, die in den Songs liegt. Bandleaderin, Sängerin und Drummerin I. drischt und schreit voller Inbrunst, die Riffs von P. (OSSAERT, DÖDSRIT) sind primitiv aber im allergrößten Fall absolut treffsicher. Die Art des Black Metals, den DOODSWENS spielen, ist völlig frei von Innovationen und reiht sich zwischen zeitgenössischen Bands wie ASAGRAUM und CULTUS PROFANO ein, die ihrerseits der Schule der zweiten Welle (denke DARKTHRONE) aus einer zeitgemäßeren und auch weiblicheren Perspektive Tribut zollen, natürlich nicht im Sinne von Symphonic Metal mit wallenden Kleidern, sondern mit einer ursprünglichen, schwefelig-pechschwarzen Aura.

Das Ergebnis ist unvergleichlich kraftvoll und direkt: Auch wenn die Songs mal über sechs Minuten dauern, repetitive Langeweile gibt es keine auf diesem Album. Egal ob es kompakte, punkige und leicht thrashige Black Metal-Songs („Verrot“, „Devil’s Stone“, „Vlaamse Vloek“) sind, oder ob die DOODSWENS etwas atmosphärischer und langsam vorgehen („She Carries The Curse“), fast immer schafft es das Trio, dass die Musik wirklich berührt und unter die Haut geht. Dabei sind die Songs so gut geschrieben, dass es schnell klick macht. Besonders trifft das auf „These Wounds Never Healed“ zu, das sich nach einem schleppenden Start erst in eine epische Richtung entwickelt und dann an Geschwindigkeit gewinnt.

DOODSWENS pusten den Staub vom Black Metal der zweiten Welle: „Doodswens“ ist ein frisches und fast schon kathartisches Album.
„Doodswens“ ist völlig unoriginell und somit wird es die Zeit zeigen müssen, ob dieses Album auch langfristig begeistern kann. Immerhin sind die Songs gespickt mit erstklassigen Riffs, soliden Arrangements und einer starken Gesangsperformance. Zwar sind nicht alle Songs auf gleichbleibend hohem Niveau, Ausfälle gibt es aber keine. Und verglichen mit so mancher schlecht gealterten Genregröße ist hier noch Feuer und Leidenschaft zu spüren. Die Energie, mit der sich DOODSWENS trotzig der grauen Wolke entgegenstellen, ist bemerkenswert, nicht zuletzt deshalb ist ihr zweites Album ein sehr kraftvolles, beinahe kathartisches Werk, das laut gehört werden will und bei gewissen Personengruppen besondere Resonanz finden wird – bei denjenigen, die sich der grauen Wolke eben nicht hingeben wollen, egal wie dicht sie über dem Haupt schwebt. Starkes Album!

Update von VICIOUS RUMORS und Larry Howe:Wie Howe jetzt bei Facbook postete, ist er nun doch nicht mehr Mitglied bei der Band. Vorausgegangen war ein Rausschmiss im Februar wegen Howes Äußerungen auf Facebook, Anfang April kündigte die Band dann aber an, dass Howe nun doch bei der anstehenden Europatour dabei sei. Einige Veranstalter sagten daraufhin die Konzerte ab. Ob und welche Konzerte nun stattfinden, ist noch unklar.

 

Die Chronologie
VICIOUS RUMORS  werden sich von ihrem Schlagzeuger Larry Howe trennen, das behauptetet die Band im Februar. Die Band begründete den Schritt mit seinen politischen Ansichten, die dazu führten, dass Konzerte abgesagt wurden. Am 9. April 2026 machten die US-Amerikaner einen Rückzieher: Sie kündigte an, dass Howe doch bei der anstehenden Europa-Tour dabei sei und schrieb dazu auf Facebook:

„VR und Heavy Metal gewinnen!
Die polarisierende Spaltung hat verloren!

VICIOUS RUMORS haben es als Band geschafft, sich über das heutige vergiftete politische Klima zu erheben, das Beziehungen, Unternehmen und Bands zerstört hat. Larry Howe hat sich für die Musik entschieden – vor allem anderen. Seine Aussagen und Taten sind unserer Meinung nach der Schlüssel, um Spaltungen zu überwinden und die Musik an erste Stelle zu setzen.

Die Songs – und die Kraft der Alben und Live-Auftritte der Band – stehen im Mittelpunkt. Wir freuen uns, unseren europäischen Fans mitteilen zu können, dass ihr auf der ‚The Devil’s Asylum Tour‘ die volle Kraft von VR erleben werdet. Mit Larry am Schlagzeug und am Gesang, wobei wir uns auf unsere 47-jährige Geschichte konzentrieren und politische Spaltungen hinter uns lassen.

Die Band spielt nach der fünfwöchigen US-Tournee auf höchstem Niveau, und Larry hat einen großen Anteil daran. Unsere Fans haben es verdient, diese Besetzung zu sehen. Sie sind das Wichtigste für VR, ganz klar.

Jeder hat das Recht, seine Meinung zu äußern. Leider kann es in der heutigen Zeit dazu führen, dass Entertainer, die politische Meinungen äußern, das Publikum spalten und der Band langfristig schaden. Bitte denkt daran: Es heißt nicht umsonst ‚Musikgeschäft‘.

Wir ergreifen bei VR keine Partei. Unsere Musik ist für alle da – und alle sind willkommen. Unser Ziel ist es, alle zu unterhalten, die zu unseren Konzerten kommen. Punkt. Genau das werden wir auch tun.

Vielen Dank an alle Fans, die die US-Tour zu einem so fantastischen Erlebnis gemacht haben. Wir können es kaum erwarten, auf der anderen Seite des großen Teichs wieder loszulegen. Lasst uns also wieder Spaß haben und Heavy Metal feiern! Wir sehen uns vom 8. Mai bis zum 20. Juni auf der ‚The Devil’s Asylum Tour‘ in ganz Europa.“

Zur Klarstellung der Erklärung:
Bei VR geht es um Musik, nicht um Politik! Aufgrund von Larrys extremen Ansichten, die nichts mit VR zu tun haben, wurden bisher vier Shows abgesagt. Bei VR geht es nicht darum, Partei zu ergreifen, sondern um Unterhaltung für alle.
Wenn die Band so hart bestraft wird und unsere Konzerte abgesagt werden, muss es wegen seiner offen geäußerten Meinung eine Veränderung geben.

Nach jahrelangen Meinungsverschiedenheiten werden Vicious Rumors nicht mehr mit ihrem langjährigen Schlagzeuger Larry Howe auf Tournee gehen. Als Band haben wir Larrys persönliche politische Ansichten nie geteilt. So schwer es auch ist, ein Gründungsmitglied gehen zu lassen, wir können nicht länger akzeptieren, wegen Larrys persönlicher Meinungen bestraft zu werden. Diese spiegeln nicht die Meinung von Vicious Rumors wider. Unsere Botschaft ist einfach und klar: Einheit! Und gemeinsam Heavy Metal feiern! Diese Botschaft hat sich seit den Anfängen von VR im Jahr 1979 nicht geändert! Wir haben Songs wie „World Church” geschrieben, um Menschen zusammenzubringen. Das ist unsere Botschaft für Vicious Rumors.
Aus Respekt gegenüber VR wird Larry  den US-Teil der „The Devil’s Asylum Tour” vom 25. Februar bis zum 28. März noch mitspielen.
Wir möchten Larry für all die Jahre seines Engagements für die Band und seine unglaubliche Musikalität danken. Wir werden bald einen neuen Tour-Schlagzeuger bekannt geben.

„Panic Stations erzählt davon, dass egal wie sehr man versucht alles im Griff zu haben, es doch im Leben immer wieder gerne im selbstgebauten Chaos endet. Ein Mix aus Selbstzweifel, Kontrollverlust und dem Drang, trotzdem immer weiterzumachen und am Ende zu erkennen, dass das Chaos auch einfach zur eigenen Persönlichkeit dazugehört.“
Musikalisch vereint die Single harte Riffs, dynamische Wechsel und die wandelbare, markante Stimme von Lisa-Marie Watz zu einem druckvollen, modernen Statement. Produziert wurde der Song gemeinsam mit Julian Breucker, der sich auch für die klare und zugleich energiegeladene Soundästhetik verantwortlich zeichnet.

„You Got This“ erscheint am 7. April über Earache Records. Produziert wurde das Album von Jay Ruston. 

Im Dezember teilte die Band den Titeltrack. Die Inspiration zum Song stammt aus einem Moment, den Sänger Benji Webbe im Fitnessstudio beobachtete: Ein Mann kämpfte nach einem Schlaganfall mit seinen Reha-Übungen, als sein Trainer ihn aufmunterte: „You got this.“ „Ich konnte den Schmerz und die Anstrengung sehen“, erinnert sich Benji, „aber in diesem Moment wusste ich: Er schafft das. Dieser Satz ist so kraftvoll – und er passt auf so viele Situationen im Leben. Ob man sich von einer Krankheit erholt oder für Prüfungen lernt – Songs, die Menschen in schwierigen Zeiten aufrichten, sind für mich das Wichtigste. Genau dafür bin ich auf dieser Welt.“

Zu den generellen Veröffentlichungen, vor allem aber zu der „III“ von GODWIN POINT aus Frankreich fallen mir nach mehrmaligen Hören gleich mal folgende Gefühlswelten ein :  Verhangene Regentage, nebelverhüllte Parklandschaften, verlassene Friedhöfe, finsterere Kellerverliese oder auch ehemals belebte Fabrikhallen, die nun in völliger Leere ihr Dasein fristen. Die 8 Martial Dark Ambient Post Industrial Kompositionen von DAVID SABRE, der mit GODWIN POINT ein Sideprojekt von seinem Hauptprojekt DAWN+DUSK ENTWINED betreibt, sind zwischen Mai 2021 und April 2022 entstanden. Mastermind DAVID SABRE ist zudem sogar Sänger und Instrumentalist, der schon länger für seine Ambient und Industrial-Arbeiten bekannt ist und Ende der 90er Jahre seine großartige Debüt Platte „A Leftover of Gaia“ veröffentlichte, schon hier merkte man ihm seine künstlerische Vielseitigkeit an. Und die Sound-Landschaften von ihm sind auf jeden Fall etwas für Fans von COLD MEAT INDUSTRY, Gruppen wie ARCANA, LETUM, RAISON D`ETRE, PUISSANCE, ATOMINE ELEKTRINE, RUNES ORDER, DESIDERII MARGINIS oder auch COIL, P.A.L, SOPHIA, PHALLUS DEI, MUSLIMGAUZE und vielen anderen aus dem Bereich des Dark Ambient. Die teils dunkel/schwarz angehauchten, filmischen Klangwelten, die mit Sprachsamples unterlegt worden sind und die den geneigten Hörer immer mehr in die Bereiche eines tiefen, atmosphärischen Soundtracks mit hinab ziehen und eintauchen lassen, sind schon sehr opulent angelegt. Die Musik ist wie erwähnt immer äußerst düster gehalten und teils mit melodischen Synths sowie futuristisch kalten Sprach Samples unterlegt, versprüht sakrale Atmosphäre und würde als Score zu Filmen wie „Sieben“ oder “ The Conjuring“ usw. gut passen.  Die Songs sind durchdringend, intensiv und mit tiefen Basslinien und klagenden Klängen und filigranen Sounds aufbereitet worden. Natürlich sind auch die Themen den Tracks angepaßt, von wachsender Gewalt bis zur Unterdrückung, Angstflächen und existenzieller Leere oder unversöhnlichen Abrechnungen und Verfehlungen der Kirche ist alles dabei. Tip für alle Fans, der oben genannten Projekte.

NEVERMORE haben weitere Konzerttermine bekannt gegeben, die Band ist unter anderem als Support für JUDAS PRIEST auf deren“Faithkeeper“-Tour in Bern (CH) zu sehen. Weitere Termine im deutschsprachigen Raum sind das WACKEN OPEN AIR, das Z7 Open Air in Pratteln (CH) sowie Konzerte mit SAVATAGE in Leipzig und Bonn.

Das erste Konzert in der neuen Besetzung gaben NEVERMORE am 1. April in Istanbul. Einen Mitschnitt von „Born“ hat die Band nun auf ihrem YouTube-Channel geteilt. Weitere Videos vom Auftritt in Istanbul gibt’s unter anderem auf dem YouTube-Channel Amazing Concerts in Istanbul.

Die norwegische Nordic Folk-Band GÅTE hat einen Labeldeal bei Season of Mist unterschrieben. Erstes Ergebnis dieser Zusammenarbeit ist der Release der Single „Sannsiger“ – mit Maria Franz (HEILUNG) als Gast.

„Der Titel unserer neuen Single, ‚Sannsiger‘, bezieht sich auf eine Figur, die in der Folklore und in Glaubenssystemen verschiedener Kulturen vorkommt. Sie wird als jemand verstanden, der Zeichen, Visionen und göttliche Botschaften deutet, um die Zukunft vorauszusehen. Im Kontext dieses Songs steht sie auch für jene, die es wagen, unbequeme Wahrheiten auszusprechen. Im Laufe der Geschichte und auch heute noch wurden solche Stimmen oft zum Schweigen gebracht, bestraft oder angegriffen, weil sie das in Frage stellten, was andere lieber verbergen wollten“, erklärt die Band.

Die Heavy / Thrash Metal-Band HEAVENFALL hat mit dem Video zu „No Candlelight“ eine zweite Single ihres kommenden Albums „Thorn“ veröffentlicht.

„Im Kern vermittelt der Song ein anhaltendes Gefühl der Entwurzelung und innerer Unruhe. Der Text dreht sich um die Suche nach Zugehörigkeit und richtet sich nicht nur an jüngere Generationen, sondern an alle, die mit Unsicherheit hinsichtlich ihres Lebenssinns und ihrer Identität konfrontiert sind“, sagt die Band.

Es ist nach „Falling from Heaven“ (2012) das zweite Album der Italiener und wurde von Davide Tavecchia im Twilight Studio gemixt und gemastert. Das Cover-Artwork stammt von Aaron Bonogofsky.

Desire often arrives in fragments: a fixation you cannot quite explain, a pull that keeps returning, a thought that hardens into impulse before you have fully named it. On Closer To You, London’s Mouth Ulcers keep that feeling deliberately open-ended. The lyrics never overstate the relationship at the song’s centre; instead, they circle pursuit, surrender, and failing self-command. The result is not a straightforward love song, but something murkier and more compelling: a portrait of attraction gathering force until it starts to feel like obsession.

Closer To You, the latest single from the band’s forthcoming debut EP, Silent Pictures, sharpens the qualities that have made Mouth Ulcers one of the most exciting young names in Britain’s current goth and post-punk resurgence. It opens on propulsive drums, a tenebrous bass pulse, and a rush of cold guitar that cuts clean through the mix before settling into an arresting minor-key figure that gives the song its severe, magnetic shape. Zak Watson’s vocal holds itself in check even as the arrangement suggests that control slipping away, mirroring the lyric’s repeated movement toward someone just out of reach. Longing is not treated as sentiment here, but as compulsion.

The video renders that gripping tension with a stark, stylish economy, placing the band inside a raw industrial space of white brick, bare concrete, narrow corridors, hanging fluorescent strips, and engulfing darkness. Throughout the clip, Mouth Ulcers appear between bleach-bright overexposure and blue-black murk, while red gothic title cards, looming shadows — and their shadowplay, blurred movement, and isolating close-ups turn the room into something between a rehearsal space, a ritual chamber, and a fever dream. The camera repeatedly shifts from intimate faces to distant full-band tableaux, giving the performance a restless, unstable energy that suits the song’s themes of pursuit and slipping control.

With Closer To You, Mouth Ulcers continue to make a strong case for the renewed potency of guitar-driven darkwave and moody post-punk in the UK. Their sound shares some broad terrain with contemporaries like Twin Tribes, but leans further into an older post-punk lineage: the stark drive of The Soft Moon at its most guitar-led, the dark abrasion of Mesh and Lace-era Modern English, and the elegant desolation of Modern Eon, Snake Corps, and Sad Lovers and Giants, with traces of early The Cure and Bauhaus in the bones. Yet they do not feel trapped in revivalism; they carry that language with a chill, discipline, and urgency that feels slick, modern, and fully present-tense.

Belgian post-punk band The Names have released the remix and companion album “Balancing Chaos (RMXing The Names)” via Spleen+, the post-punk division of Brussels label Alfa Matrix. The 17-track release appears as a CD digipack and as a digital album through the band’s official Bandcamp page.
 
“Balancing Chaos” expands on the 2025 studio album “Encore!” with 13 remixes and 4 original album versions of “Far From The Factories”, “Watching For The New World”, “Last Train From Nowhere” and “Apophenia”. Digital pre-orders are available now with the two advance tracks: “Last Train From Nowhere (Gil Robert retrofuturistic remix)” and “Procrastination (Hard Facts remix)”.
 
The release follows a run of Spleen+ titles that reintroduced the band through the 2-track single “Far From The Factories“, the four-track “Volume” EP, the full-length “Encore!“, the “Swimming With Brian Jones” EP, and the digital “Procrastination” EP centred on the track of the same name.
 

Remixers include Jean-Marc Lederman, Kyiv-based producer Hard Facts, Gil Robert, Nevel (featuring Reverend Basstorius), Eden, Mike Theis, Halcyon Loop, Rob G. Nichols, Diskodiktator and Error Fate.
 
Jean-Marc Lederman contributes a rework of “Watching For The New World” dedicated to the late Annik Honoré, while Hard Facts delivers a club-oriented version of “Procrastination”, following earlier work on the “Procrastination” EP. Multiple mixes by Gil Robert are also included, ranging from a retro-futuristic take on “Last Train From Nowhere” to an extended dark electro pop version of “Apophenia” and an ambient electro-focused treatment of “Swimming With Brian Jones”.
 
Mike Theis, known for work with artists including Tricky and Massive Attack, appears here with the “morecowbell” remix of “Last Train From Nowhere”. Additional interpretations by Eden, Nevel, Halcyon Loop, Rob G. Nichols, Diskodiktator and Error Fate complete the set before the album versions return the material to its original band arrangements.

Day and night have been beaten thin as tin by the hammer of the bulletin, and the Republic lives now by interruption: sirens, chants, the cracked loudspeaker, the bright wound of the smartphone screen. Grief is scarcely granted the dignity of silence before it is numbered, argued over, folded into the next alarm. In the streets, the people carry both fury and fatigue; in the cells and under official hands, the vulnerable are made to pay in blood. We go on half-awake, half-shattered, learning the bitter modern labour of keeping one heart open while history tramples past it.

Massive Attack’s Boots on the Ground, their new collaboration with Tom Waits, arrives with the sort of timing that makes one suspicious of history’s sense of rhythm. It is the Bristol group’s first new music since 2020, and Waits’s first new recording since 2011’s Bad As Me.

Massive Attack have long understood pressure, how to make atmosphere feel civic as well as emotional, and here they build a setting less like a stage than a zone of occupation. Waits enters that terrain with a voice that remains one of the great weather systems in American music: corroded, amused, biblical, faintly obscene. His presence changes the song’s temperature. When he sings of men yielding themselves to “The Masters of War,” the Dylan phrase lands like a judgement that has outlived every administration that might have preferred to treat it as period language. The track’s force lies partly in its patience. It advances with the grim logic of machinery already in motion, a procession of grief for the violent death of the Great Society.

The lyrics turn war into a grotesque pageant of lust, obedience, class contempt, and mechanical slaughter. Soldiers are rendered as expendable bodies, crude instruments for distant men in comfort, while patriotism curdles into butchery. By the end, ideology has burned away, leaving only death, debris, and the remnants of uniform. This is Tom Waits at his finest.

Waits, characteristically, frames the release with mordant clarity: “One day many years ago, I accepted an invitation from Massive Attack to collaborate. Their long release delay never worried me. Today, as in all of mankind’s yesterdays, guarantees this type of song will never go out of style. Man’s folly of fiascos is a feast for the flies. Hence, the B side of Massive Attack’s upcoming 12-inch The Fly features my appreciation for the winged nuisance.”

The accompanying film, made by Massive Attack with American photographer thefinaleye, gives the single its historical field. The montage draws on footage and research connected to protests against ICE raids, the militarization of domestic force, and state authoritarianism, citing organizations including the A.C.L.U., the American Immigration Council, and FactCheck.org. In another artist’s hands, such apparatus might have hardened into homework. Here it sharpens the song’s moral contour. It is a chilling look at what we hath wrought.

Boots on the Ground is a grounding spiritual of sorts, when the modern state of society prefers spectacle, repetition, and fatigue. Massive Attack and Waits answer with a dirge for the public square, and with a warning delivered in a voice rough enough to sound like the nation’s conscience.

IAN LEDING hat mich kürzlich mit seiner „Borkum“ MC voll mitgenommen und gefesselt. Trotz all des schweren Ballastes konnte ich dieses Werk voll genießen. Nur kurze Zeit später gibt es mit Full Band Line Up (neben Leding noch Steve Leafs an den Drums und Detlef Kasper am Bass) ein ganz anders geartetes Werk. Zwar bleibt es dunkel, aber diesmal geht es in Richtung Goth/Wave Rock mit einem Schuss Alternative Rock. Schon mal vorweg, auch dieses Album ist gelungen. „Wake up“ glänzt mit dunklen Melodielinien, rockigen Saiten und einem betörenden Gesang, der sich einer poetischen Sprache bedient. Die Texte erzählen von inneren Kämpfen, Verlust und der zarten Hoffnung auf Heilung.

Das treibende und von einem verspielten Schlagzeug begleitete und von einem langen, zweiminütigen Intro eingeleitete „Angel“ eröffnet den Reigen voller elegischer Klangteppiche, welche sich perfekt an den typischen Gesangsstil von Ian schmiegen. Ian glänzt mit einer verführerisch wehklagenden, leicht rauen Stimme, wobei der akzentuierte Ausdruck immer ein wenig melancholisch daherkommt. Das mit einem durchdringenden Refrain daherkommende „Girl with the far away Eyes“ besitzt eine verträumte Atmosphäre, welche in der Hookline dann zu explodieren droht. Die darkwavige Melodie glänzt mit einer betörenden Eingängigkeit. Die Geschichte des Mädchen wird mit einer bildgewaltigen Sprache dargeboten.

„Night Horses“ beginnt schleppend und balladesk. Die Instrumentierung ist eher akzentuiert als bestimmend. Das Konstrukt ist fragil und die textliche Poesie folgt der verträumten Tragik. Das folgende „No one sleeps tonight“ ist wieder etwas heftiger arrangiert. Die Gitarren sägen ihre Harmonie, ein kleiner, fast versteckter Ausflug in die Gefilde des Shoegaze vervollständigt die latent ambivalente Ausrichtung des Songs. Der Refrain schleicht sehr gefühlvoll in die Szenerie, während in den Zwischenspielen immer eine galante Schräge thront, auch Ian lässt seine Stimme mal etwas kratziger spazieren gehen.

Das wunderschöne „When youth begins to fade“ erzählt eine Geschichte aus der Jugend und dem, mit Ängsten verbundenen Gedanken des ersten Kennenlernens, die langsam zu verblassen scheinen.

Komisch, aber irgendwie lässt mich dieses „Strange World“ anhand seiner tragischen Eleganz irgendwie U2’s ’87er Album erinnern. Ein ganz großartiger Song, der irgendwo zwischen Stadionhymne und Gänsehautatmosphäre sein Zuhause findet. Ian selbst bezeichnet den Song als einfach – manchmal sind es eben die einfachen Dinge, die begeistern. Dann geht es um den doch facettenreichen „Leviathan“, den man aus der Bibel oder von Hobbes kennt. Ian lässt eher das Ungeheuer agieren, den Hiob (Kapitel 40-41) als unbezwingbare Kreatur schildert. Wie Hobbes könnte aber auch Leding den Leviathan als Metapher benutzen. Der Titelsong ist ein düsteres, langsam fließendes Stück mit verzwicktem kurzen Text und abschließendem progressiven Ausklang, welche der ruhigen Eleganz mit verspielter Straightness begegnet. Auch das tagträumerische „Beyond words“ bewegt sich zu Beginn eher getragen in die Gehörgänge. Geschickte Temposteigerungen und ein opulentes Finale sorgen für einen gelungenen Ausklang.

Fazit: Ich hab in den vergangenen Monaten einige Zeit (aufgrund von Reviews und Interview) mit der Musik von IAN LEDING verbracht. Die Borkum MC gehört zu meinen Klassikern der letzten Jahre (ich werde auch zukünftig immer wieder gerne reinhören). Und irgendwie ist das Besondere an der Geschichte, ich konnte alle Zeit mit verschiedenen Gefühlswelten genießen. So unterschiedlich „Borkum“ und „Wake up“ auch sind, eint sie doch das Gefühl für besondere Musikmomente und die Tiefgründigkeit. (andreas)

Digital Factor – They Will Forget You (When You Die)

German cult EBM / electro-pop act DIGITAL FACTOR return with the brand-new EP “They Will Forget You (When You Die)”, a sharp and energetic teaser for their upcoming album “0.8”.

This release also marks a new chapter for the band: alongside founding member Mike Langer, Gwendolyn Gaffa now officially joins DIGITAL FACTOR as a permanent studio and live member. Electronic progressive pop veterans BIOMEKKANIK have signed a multi-album deal with Dependent Records.

The Swedes’ forthcoming new album will be released in 2026 and their previous full-length, “Violently Beautiful”, will also be taken over by the label.

BIOMEKKANIK are back! The original project is the brainchild of Christer Hermodsson after having a musical epiphany in 2005.

Hermodsson is also known as the singer of other acts such as S.P.O.C.K and SPARK!. The frontman has furthermore produced renowned electronic bands such as AND ONE, CAT RAPES DOG, SISTA MANNEN PÅ JORDEN, PAGE among many others.

As a full-time producer, Hermodsson was working with bands from a huge variety of genres in studio. Particularly metal bands became a vital inspiration for the formation of BIOMEKKANIK. When the debut album “State of Perfection” was released in 2009, it climbed the German alternative chart DAC straight to #2 and lodged itself in up there for a full month. The title track ‘State of Perfection’ has meanwhile garnered more than a million plays on Spotify. 

With the band complete and rumours about a new album beginning to circle, the re-formed trio received an offer to perform at Wave Gotik Treffen, which they accepted. Get ready for the next chapter of BIOMEKKANIK!

She then joined forces with GRAMMY-winning singer-songwriter Rosalía to release her second single, “New Woman,” followed by her third single, “Moonlit Floor.” She first teased “Moonlit Floor” during her solo festival debut at the Global Citizen Festival in New York City and following the song’s official release, she had a showstopping performance at the Victoria’s Secret Runway Show. Along with her global dominance in music and unparalleled stage presence, she is known for her unique fashion sense and trendsetting style, making her a prominent force in the global fashion industry. LISA graced the cover of ELLE Magazine’s highly coveted September issue in 2024, Louis Vuitton announced LISA as their newest House Ambassador, and she continues to be the face of Bulgari. LISA released her highly anticipated debut solo album, Alter Ego, last February, which debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200 chart and also debuted at number one on the Billboard Top Album Sales chart. LISA made her solo Coachella debut in April to rave reviews. Most recently, LISA made history as the first K-Pop act to announce a Las Vegas Residency with her show  ‘VIVA LA LISA,’ scheduled for four nights at the Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace this November.
