Die Melodic Death Metal-Band OUTLYING hat nach „November“ und „Pitch Black Serum“ mit dem Opener „The Raven Is Gone“ nun einen dritten Track ihres kommenden Albums „Oblivisci“ veröffentlicht. Der Song fange das Chaos des Alltags mit seinen Kämpfen, Rechnungen, Jobs, Beziehungen und der Last des modernen Lebens ein.

Es ist nach „Scars of Daylight“ (2012) und „Frameworks for Repression“ (2016) das dritte Album der Kanadier aus Quebec und wird am 21. November 2025 erscheinen.

„Oblivisci“ ist ein Konzeptalbum, das sich mit Themen wie Trauma, Entfremdung, Trauer und Sucht auseinandersetzt. Das Albumcover, von Frontmann Fred A. Die Melodic Metal-Band ALIEN ORCHESTRA hat mit „Inside The Worn Shell“ einen zweiten Track ihrer kommenden EP „Under My Pale Skin“ veröffentlicht. Die Songs der EP wurden nach der siegreichen Schlacht gegen den Krebs von Jan Mojdis geschrieben – ein Kampf, der seine Weltanschauung und sein Songwriting tiefgreifend geprägt hat. Die EP ist sowohl eine Reflexion über Überleben und Erneuerung als auch eine Hommage an diejenigen, die gekämpft haben und gefallen sind – insbesondere Kinder.

Die Nordic / Slavic Folk / Jazz Fusion-Band HÉR hat einen Labeldeal bei Season of Mist unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen werden die Polen mit „Monochrome“ ein neues Album veröffentlichen. Es ist das erste Album der Band, die sich mit nordischer Mythologie beschäftigt.

„Monochrome“ wurde gemeinsam mit Ignacy Gruszecki im Monochrom Studio in Gniewoszów aufgenommen und von Marcin Bors gemixt und gemastert. Das Cover-Artwork stammt von Mary Zaleska. Release-Termin ist der 30. Januar 2026. Als erste Vorab-Single gibt es zu „Needles and Bark“ einen Video-Clip.

Something fated shines through in the way Magic Wands move, as if they’ve been orbiting this precise sound since the first time they struck a chord. Chris and Dexy Valentine have built a world from vapour and voltage, where guitars glow like cathedral glass and synths breathe with human warmth. Their new album, Cascades, isn’t a collection of songs so much as a place where time folds in on itself; 4AD romance refracted through the soft static of midnight radio. They write like people who believe memory isn’t linear but tidal, forever returning with new debris, new beauty.

“Cascades was born from a fascination with how the past lingers inside us and explores transformation and the spaces where timelines blur into one,” the band explain.

The record opens with Across The Water, where bright synths glisten with the morning after a storm. The vocals float just above, half in the waking world, half in a lucid dream. It feels like waking from a delicious mid-afternoon nap: hazy, replenished, faintly unreal. Armour ripples next, moving with the poise of a river learning its own path. A shield, a confession, a spell against the world. Here, Magic Wands uncover their own mythology: the paradox of protection and surrender that defines love, art, and self.

On Hide, the drums strike like footsteps in an empty hall, grounding a guitar that glows and trembles in equal measure. The hush of Dexy’s voice builds to something grand, the kind of crescendo that feels accidental; as if emotion itself has outgrown its vessel. Then Albatross drifts into view, slower, heavier, a song that sinks and sways under its own mystery. There’s a strange grace in its exhaustion, the sense of carrying too many skies on one’s back. Moonshadow is made for late-night movement, its gothic pulse and call-and-response vocals conjure a candlelit dance floor. Even in its gloom, a bright light cuts through: a chorus that gleams like stained glass under strobes.

Time To Dream turns inward again, echoing and strange, like being trapped in your subconscious yet deciding to stay awhile. You wander, curious, as the melodies curve and overlap in hypnotic geometry. The title track, Cascades, feels darker, colder…more subterranean. There’s something of Octavian Winters in its spectral drift, a sense that the song exists in the seam between sleep and afterlife. Golden shivers with Siouxsie-esque elegance, all eerie guitars and candlelit intensity. It’s one of the album’s most magnetic moments, a song that seems to breathe on its own. By the time Room With A View arrives, the spell is complete. The track channels the baroque grandeur of Strange Boutique and Faith and the Muse, with vocals that rise like smoke from an altar.

Finally, Riverbed closes the record in a hush. A slow, hypnotic drift through beautiful synths and half-remembered dreams…a gentle slipping beneath the surface.

Magic Wands have distilled something rare and luminous here, a chemistry of past and future that hums with its own quiet electricity floating in its own moment, a mirror reflecting both the ancient and the electronic, the body and the beyond.

Over the years, the duo have become fixtures of a certain twilight circuit, sharing stages with Radiohead, Slowdive, The Jesus & Mary Chain, The Breeders, The Horrors, Dinosaur Jr., Deerhunter, and Mac DeMarco. Their performances, whether beneath festival lights at Lollapalooza, SXSW, Noise Pop, or most recently Los Angeles’ Substance Festival, carry an almost ceremonial energy, blurring the line between dream and devotion.

Across five studio albums, Magic Wands have cultivated a loyal following drawn to their atmosphere of mystery and metamorphosis. In der Ruhe liegt die Kraft – oder vielleicht doch nicht? So ganz sicher sind wir uns im vorliegenden Fall nicht, denn obwohl sich MORS PRINCIPIUM EST nach den Neuaufnahmen von „Liberate The Unborn Inhumanity“ (2022) völlig unaufgeregt über drei Jahre Zeit ließen, spricht das letztendliche Resultat eine völlig andere Sprache. „Darkness Invisible“ zeigt die Melodic Death Metal-Band furios und hungrig, als habe man als blutjunge Teenager endlich die ersten Songwriting-Versuche auf CD gebannt.

Wobei die Finnen natürlich einen entscheidenden Vorteil haben: Ihre Erfahrung lässt keinen Raum für Anfängerfehler oder sonstige Unachtsamkeiten. 50 Minuten lang entdeckt das Quintett die Essenz des eigenen Sounds neu, indem es den unbändigen Drang nach vorne mit cineastischer Untermalung anreichert. Diese tritt in den Interludes „Tenebrae Latebra“ sowie „An Aria Of The Damned“ sogar an vorderste Front, indem Streicher, Piano und Chorgesang eine erhabene Atmosphäre zaubern.

MORS PRINCIPIUM EST orientieren sich auf „Darkness Invisible“ tendenziell am Frühwerk der Band
Doch auch in den traditionell gehaltenen Stücken reichern MORS PRINCIPIUM EST ihr rastloses Riffing mit einer gesunden Dosis Bombast an. Der Opener „Of Death“ zieht das Tempo beispielsweise unverhohlen an: Jori Haukio und Jarkko Kokko schlagen an den Gitarren Haken im Sekundentakt, ohne im Refrain das Gespür für eine stringente Melodie zu verlieren.

Vom Ansatz her orientiert sich „Darkness Invisible“ folglich am Frühwerk der Band, was in letzter Konsequenz ein wenig mehr Furor im Tausch gegen Andy Gillions strukturiertere Herangehensweise bedeutet. Der ehemalige Songwriter prägte die letzten Werke MORS PRINCIPIUM EST zwar entscheidend, doch wie gut die Gruppe auch ohne den ehemaligen Gitarristen zurechtkommt, zeigen Stücke wie „The River Of Avernus“, „Venator“ oder das bedrohlich walzenden „All Life Is Evil“, das als eines der wenigen Stücke konsequent das Tempo drosselt.

Natürlich verlassen sich MORS PRINCIPIUM EST auf Bewährtes, doch qualitativ lässt „Darkness Invisible“ nichts anbrennen
Kritisieren könnten wir natürlich den risikoarmen Ansatz: „Darkness Invisible“ setzt zuvorderst auf die Trademarks, welche schon in der Vergangenheit so gut funktioniert haben. Andererseits aber finden sich heutzutage nur noch wenige Bands, die exakt diese Sparte des Melodic Death Metals bedienen: mit Biss, mit Hang zu Melodie und Riffing sowie einer ausgeprägten Vorliebe für symphonische Opulenz. Die Dramatik gehört da natürlich fest zum Konzept, genau wie die latent melancholische Note im Kern der Musik.

Einen solch wilden Mix derart unaufgeregt zu präsentieren, ist wiederum eine der größten Stärken dieser Band. In der Ruhe liegt eben die Kraft, auch wenn man es dem Output MORS PRINCIPIUM ESTs selten anhört.

The band, bolstered by Gina Kuhn’s cool, glassy vocals, has made something that feels like a midnight transmission from the center of an existential panic, intercepted by someone dancing their way out of it.

Producer Matia Simovich keeps the thing taut and electric, every layer clicking into place like the machinery of an ecstatic breakdown. The bass is a low heartbeat plucked from that slick little Steinberger, and it anchors the whole neon nervous system. You can hear the humanity pushing through the sequencers, the pulse of someone trying to remember they’re still alive. It’s like the Human League got lost on their way to a Eurovision afterparty and decided to start a cult instead.

Lyrically, the song gnaws on fear like it’s gum you can’t spit out. “Disengage to engage,” they chant, and it feels like gospel for the post-digital disillusioned. The tune is an invitation to stand up, to walk out the door, to remember what your bones are for. You can almost see the skin shed in real time, the transformation both painful and weirdly joyous.

The video takes that strange liberation and hurls it into chaos. Directed and edited by Sean McGuirk, it’s a surreal mashup of retro nightmares and pixelated salvation. Imagine playing Doom while trapped inside an Italo disco fever dream, every frame jittering between parody and prophecy. There’s camp, there’s colour, and there’s the unmistakable sense that the apocalypse could actually be fun if the right track is playing.

This is a reminder that even our nostalgia can mutate. More Ephemerol sound like they’ve found something human under the wires. Kuhn’s voice slices through, cool and luminous, while the synths rise like a mechanical choir behind her. Disengagement Ring has the gall to believe that transformation can still happen—even in the middle of the noise.

Well I’m begging darling please

Modele’s new single Just Another Prayer feels like the kind of song you find when the night’s gone too quiet and you start talking to the ceiling for answers. Chris Huggett and Nathan Wiltshire, two souls from the frostbitten gutters of Toronto, deal in confession. Their debut album Pleasure For The Holy came out earlier this year, and if that was their scripture, this is the candle still burning in the chapel’s ruins.

The song rolls in slow, a bassline low enough to make your ribs hum, guitars arching upward like they’re trying to claw daylight out of black glass. Huggett’s voice kneels before us: deep, resonant, trembling with that dangerous thing called belief. Not the kind of belief that saves you, but the kind that keeps you crawling forward because you’ve got nothing else left. The band doesn’t flinch from the feeling; they stare right into it until the light gives out.

There’s something holy and unhinged here, like the bastard child of a cathedral hymn and a 3 a.m. confession booth. The track swells, drops, then climbs again, every note soaked in ache. It’s the sound of faith fraying at the edges, and love trying to patch it up with trembling hands. The guitars stretch out like dying prayers, hanging in the air before the drums drag everything back to the dirt. You can almost hear the echoes of The Mission, Clan of Xymox, The The, even a trace of INXS in the way the melody aches toward redemption while the rhythm keeps it tethered to the earth.

The video, shot in stark black and white by director Kuba Rygal and cinematographer Leann Weston, catches that same sense of sacred decay. Modele perform like ghosts of themselves, lit from within by something they probably shouldn’t touch. There’s no gimmickry here, just raw presence. Every frame looks like a relic from a lost film reel that someone found in the back of an abandoned theatre.

Modele builds their own altar from fragments of faith and feedback. Just Another Prayer is the kind of track that doesn’t care if you’re listening; it’s saying what it has to say, even if it means shouting into the void. Maybe that’s the point. Some prayers are never meant to be answered – they’re meant to remind you you’re still alive enough to ask.

Death has a way of cutting through pretension. You can hear it in every corner of Kalt Wie Du Bist, the debut album from Berlin’s Elektrokohle, and see it scrawled across their second video, Disillusion. This isn’t a band chasing style or nostalgia; it’s a group clawing its way back from the abyss, gasping, snarling. When their bassist, Suzan Flag, tragically died in a car crash last November (the same day their album dropped, in a terrible irony), it tore a hole clean through the band’s chest. What’s left is an open wound that hums, screams, and still somehow sings.

The track itself hits like a blunt confession. The bass line lurches forward like a heartbeat on borrowed time, while the drum machine hammers out a steady, unsympathetic rhythm. Guitars scrape and shatter, not in search of melody but in defiance of silence. The vocals cut through it all: raw, caustic, almost pleading, recalling the chaos of early European punk filtered through existential dread. It’s the sound of someone standing in the ruins of what they thought life would be, staring at the sky, and deciding to scream instead of pray.

Lyrically, Disillusion tears open the skin of self-awareness, picking at the wound of existence with a kind of grim lucidity. There’s talk of destruction, but also of renewal. Elektrokohle’s words bite at the border between enlightenment and collapse, and that tension gives their music its volatile charge.

The video for Disillusion is a noise-soaked revelation, filmed like a fever dream left to decay on VHS. Enrico Stocco, the Italian director at the helm, doesn’t try to make it pretty, he just lets it burn. Glitches eat the frames, film grain swallows faces, and the camera jitters like a body in shock. There’s no gloss, no polish, no illusion of control—just raw electricity writhing through three musicians trying to make sense of survival. The band looks half-possessed, half-resigned, as if every note might be their last, yet somehow that risk feels like freedom.

Oráculo Records, already known for pushing dark electronics with bite, found a monster worth nurturing here. Elektrokohle sound like they were built from the scrap metal of old factories and broken faith. They’ve toured with post-punk stalwarts like New Model Army and Agent Side Grinder, and you can hear that shared DNA: rhythm as survival, noise as truth.

Now, with Ombra Festival in their sights, Elektrokohle are dragging their grief into the spotlight, transforming absence into energy. Disillusion isn’t so much about mourning as resurrection by distortion. In the smoldering wreckage of loss, they’ve built a new altar, and it hums like a vintage amp. What a testament to their fallen friend.

Jeebs Nabil’s vocals command the track with the kind of intensity that recalls John Foxx in his The Garden era—rich, human, and charged with conviction. His voice cuts through the circuitry with equal parts grace and power, carrying both melancholy and motion. His guitar glimmers through the weave of synths, while Tom White’s bass grounds the surge with a pulse as steady as a heartbeat under glass. Together, they build a structure that hums with pressure but never breaks.

Their palette is unmistakably ’80s—synths gleaming like chrome, basslines walking with deliberate stride—but the delivery feels wired to the present. The emotional voltage that once powered the greats of electronic pop now surges here with renewed force. Altered Course is a collision of retro architecture and modern resolve—a recalibration written in current and conviction. Sometimes, the detour isn’t just the destination; it’s the only way forward.

The production captures that early-’80s tension between warmth and precision—machines breathing, reverb shimmering like frost, percussion striking with crystalline intent. Yet it also hums with the pulse of modern darkwave’s current vanguard—acts like ACTORS, Scared Skin, and Drab Majesty—who carry that lineage of cinematic melancholy into the present. Every sound here feels deliberate and alive, rediscovering the future one signal at a time.

After a decade of summoning the shadows, Verboden Festival has evolved from a modest Vancouver experiment into one of North America’s most vital gatherings for darkwave, post-punk, and industrial devotees. Founded in 2016, the festival has become a refuge for the beautifully strange: the misfits, romantics, and creatures of the night who thrive under strobes, smoke, and synths.

In 2026, Verboden marks its 10-year anniversary with its boldest move yet: expanding across the Pacific Northwest with simultaneous events in Vancouver, Seattle, and Portland on May 28th-31st. This tri-city evolution unites three creative undergrounds into one circuit of sound and subculture, amplifying Verboden’s mission to illuminate the darker edge of modern music.

Male Tears

Male Tears channel the mascara-streaked glamour of forgotten VHS nights into a body of work steeped in queer futurism and electronic melancholy. Their synthpop, equal parts sleaze and sincerity, nods to Soft Cell and early Pet Shop Boys, but bristles with the irony and heartbreak of the digital age.

Sacred Skin

Sacred Skin trades in neon nostalgia and existential yearning. Drawing from the gloss of ’80s synthpop and the ache of post-punk romanticism, they reimagine pop’s luminous artifice as something wounded and devotional. Each song feels like a confession overheard through fog and fluorescent light.

SRSQ

The alias of Kennedy Ashlyn, SRSQ (pronounced “seer-eskew”) turns grief into grandeur. Her voice cuts through reverb like revelation: operatic yet human, trembling at the edge of transcendence. SRSQ’s work sits between dream and elegy, where beauty and loss share the same pulse.

Street Fever

Boise-born producer and performance artist Street Fever embodies industrial catharsis in its rawest form. Blending EBM, trap, and sacred fury, they create rituals rather than shows: sermons of sweat, sin, and strobe. It’s music for confession booths lit by police lights, where faith, flesh, and machine collapse into one.

Over the years, Verboden has hosted genre stalwarts, rising icons, and cross-disciplinary performers whose work blurs the boundaries between music, performance, and art.

Georgi’s Drummer Boy plays like a pink wedding cake left out in the rain: soggy, sweet, and strange enough to eat anyway. It’s pop with teeth, rock with a hangover, and somewhere between the first kiss and the slow-motion car crash of commitment, you realize this isn’t a love song…it’s a warning dressed in lace. Georgi sings like she’s halfway between a swoon and a scream, delivering every line with a kind of electric disbelief: This is what I wanted? This?

The track is a cracked mirror reflecting every girl’s dream of falling for the rock-and-roll guy: the drummer, the loud one, the one who always smells like smoke, sex, and sleep deprivation. The fantasy comes true, but the fairytale ends under fluorescent light. The guitars jangle with a garage-born swagger, keys twirl like confetti in a cheap chapel, and the rhythm stomps in its steel-toed boots. It’s catchy as hell and twice as bitter — a sugar rush that curdles by the second verse. It lands somewhere between Paramore’s eyeliner-smudged pop-punk, Liz Phair’s acerbic wit, and Tracy Bonham’s simmering fury.

The music video, directed by Sultan Mars and creatively helmed by Georgi, stages a wedding straight from the underworld’s David’s Bridal. Jon Siren (Front Line Assembly and IAMX) plays the groom, an industrial relic decked in leather and eyeliner, while the bride looks like she wandered in from a 1986 Sears catalogue shoot.

Drummer Boy plays itself out like bad advice whispered in a club bathroom: too loud, too sincere, too late. Georgi nails that feeling of waking up next to the person you once worshipped and realizing the altar was made of cheap plywood. It’s camp, it’s cautionary, it’s candy-colored doom. The video feels like a public-access fever dream, the kind of thing MTV would’ve banned in 1992 for confusing the youth. Every frame tilts between daydream and downfall, the ceremony edging toward collapse.

Around her swirl the goths, the misfits, the beautiful undead. She stands there, veil trembling, surrounded by mascara and metal, the only one still clinging to the idea that love is salvation. Spoiler: it’s not.

Die australische Doom Death Metal-Band MAMMON’S THRONE hat einen Plattenvertrag bei Hammerheart Records unterschrieben. Erste Veröffentlichung auf dem neuen Label ist das Album „My Body to the Worms“, es erscheint am 13. März 2026.

Am 16. Januar 2026 veröffentlichen Relapse Records zum 20-jährigen Jubiläum des WARNING-Albums „The Watching from a Distance“ eine Box mit vier LPS. Das Set ist limitiert auf 535 Stück und enthält den Re-Issue von „Watching From A Distance “ sowie den Livemitschnitt „Watching From A Distance – Live At Roadburn“ jeweils als Doppel-Vinyl.

Derzeit arbeitet die Band an einem neuen Studioalbum, im Sommer 2025 kündigte Sänger Patrick Walker kündigt neue Songs an:

„Nachdem ich mich siebzehn Jahre lang auf andere Projekte konzentriert habe, ist die Produktion eines neuen WARNING-Albums nun in vollem Gange, und ich freue mich, mit Relapse Records ein neues Zuhause für die Band gefunden zu haben. Das Label wird nicht nur das Nachfolgealbum zu „Watching from a Distance“ veröffentlichen, sondern auch den Backkatalog der Band neu auflegen.“

PHANTOM CORPORATION veröffentlichen Ende des Jahres den Nachfolger ihres 2023er Albums „Fallout“: „Time And Tide“ erscheint am 12. Dezember 2025 via Supreme Chaos Records als LP in verschiedenen Versionen, CD und Tape.

Nun hat die Band mit „Krokodil“ einen weiteren Song daraus veröffentlicht und kündigt ihn so an:

Debbie Gough (Gesang/Gitarre) erklärt, was die Band zu dem Track inspiriert hat:

 „‚Commander of Pain‘ ist eine Verbeugung vor dem Death Metal der 90er Jahre.  Live-Auftritte mit Metal-Bands verschiedener Genres haben uns zu diesem Song inspiriert. Wir wollten einen Track schreiben, der unseren Lieblingsaspekten der Heavy-Musik Tribut zollt.“

Das Format „Unpluggend“ des TV-Senders MTV war in den 90ern eine überaus erfolgreiche Reihe, bei der Weltstars in intimer Atmosphäre ohne elektrische Unterstützung bzw. konsequent akustisch ein Konzert gaben. Diese insgesamt 125 aufgezeichneten Auftritte waren damals noch richtige Fernseh-Ereignisse und deren Ausstrahlung über MTV regelrechte Straßenfeger. Natürlich wurden viele davon kommerziell in allen Formaten ausgewertet, wie zum Beispiel die von NIRVANA, Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney oder Mariah Carey, welche sich dann auch sehr gut verkauften. Andere Mitschnitte, wie zum Beispiel von THE CURE, Chris Isaak, HOLE oder THE CRANBERRIES wurden unverständlicherweise bisher nie auf Ton- oder Bild-Träger veröffentlicht. Zumindest Fans der letzteren können inzwischen aufatmen, denn endlich wurde der vollständige Unplugged-Auftritt von THE CRANBERRIES bzw. alle 9 Songs zusammen am Stück verfügbar gemacht. Erstmals geschah dies im Rahmen der limitierten 3LP-Ausgabe zum 30. Jubiläum des „No Need To Argue“ in diesem Sommer, welche allerdings sofort ausverkauft war. Dafür erscheint jetzt „MTV Unpluggend“ auch als Einzel-Veröffentlichung im LP- und CD-Format, so das man sich endlich wieder von der markanten Stimme Dolores O’Riordan und deren zärtlich-akustischen Untermalung + Streich-Quartett verzaubern lassen kann. Selbst wenn die als schwierig geltende Frontfrau, welche ja leider schon seit 7 Jahren nicht mehr unter uns weilt, damals etwas mürrisch drauf war, hatte gerade diese melancholische Distanziertheit an diesem Abend 1995 im Howard Gilman Opera House in New York seinen besonderen Reiz. Die Titel-Set-Liste setzte sich dabei aus 5 Songs von dem seiner Zeit aktuellen Albums „No Need To Argue“, ihrem ersten Hit „Linger“ vom Debüt-Album, so wie zwei neuen Songs vom dem seiner Zeit noch nicht erschienenen Werk „To The Faithful Departed“ zusammen. Eine absolute Rarität und auch ein Grund für den besonderen Stellenwert dieser Unpluggend-Session bei den CRANBERRIES-Fans war dann noch der Song „Yesterday’s Gone“, welcher eigens für diesen Auftritt komponiert und dort nur einmalig aufgeführt wurde. Ansonsten bot sich ein Großteil des Repertoire der Iren stilistisch gesehen absolut für dieses akustisch reduzierte Format an, jedoch überrascht es schon, wie gut auch das rumpelig-kreischende „Zombie“ in dieser Form funktioniert! 30 Jahre später hat man nun wieder die Möglichkeit, in eine Sternstunde der MTV Unpluggend-Reihe einzutauchen und sich von der natürlichen Charme dieser außergewöhnlichen Band verzaubern zu lassen, welche heute noch so schmerzlich fehlt! Abgesehen davon lässt diese späte Veröffentlichung der Session hoffen, das vielleicht auch noch der Auftritt von THE CURE in irgendeiner Form zugänglich gemacht wird. (Marco Fiebag)
