Hot on the heels of their unexpected, yet triumphant return to recording in 2025, Pittsburgh-based post-punk/shoegaze duo Lowsunday are back with a brand new track and video. Serving as the lead single from their upcoming Black EP (the natural shadowy follow up to last-year’s White EP), “This Is Not Heaven” is a scintillatingly dark and dreamy rave-up, featuring pummeling drum machine rhythms, buzzsaw synths, blistering guitar textures, and evocative vocals, with a chorus that lifts the track into oblivion, like an trans-dimensional jet engine. The track careens through those empty spaces where dreams and reality mix a little too closely for comfort, and the results are as alluring as they are haunting.

For the uninitiated, Lowsunday first began their tenure in the mid-1990s and were among the first bands to blend the current shoegaze movement with ’80s darkwave sounds. After self-releasing their eponymous debut LP in 1996, the band was quickly signed to Projekt Records, which released the band’s sophomore record, 2001’s wonderful Elesgiem. As trailblazers in their time, they left a huge mark on the scene, influencing countless modern bands to follow, all of which owe a great deal of debt to Lowsunday’s compositions. Remixes and remastered reissues of the band’s discography appeared in 2024 and 2025, respectively, bringing these records back into focus for a new generation. As such, the band, stripped down to core members Shane Sahene and Bobby Spell, came back in full force to reclaim their rightful throne. Last year’s interview with the duo captures the story so far and touches heavily on the band’s current output, which truly sounds as if they haven’t skipped a beat.

Meanwhile, both Sahene and Spell have shared a few words with us about the creation of “This Is Not Heaven.”

Sahene:

“This song captured a feeling that we’ve been trying to express but never as clearly as it became in this song. It’s a song that touches on loneliness and the view love from the outside – but also clearing your head enough to be expressive and cutting. It’s a song meant to be loud, at times dreamy and chaotic, but then finds its power in the heavy synth chorus- it almost reminds me of the racing engine of the Mammoth Car in old Speed Racer episodes, where it has scary power, but in this case, running from the hell of loneliness.”

Spell:

“For me. “This Is Not Heaven” is very melancholy musically and lyrically, but the choruses add enough light musically that the song leaves you with a feeling of hope. Writing and recording this song seemed to have a lot of mystery until a few key parts came along that completely changed the tone and clarified what the song would be. So far, it’s one of my favorite tracks we’ve written.”

The video for “This Is Not Heaven” is a perfect shadowy compliment to the single’s alluring cacophony. Directed by frequent collaborator Jer Herring, the video takes the duo through a monochromatic, gritty journey through city streets, dense forests, and dark basements;  those places where otherworldly beauty and sheer terror can exist in harmony.

The Black EP will be released on vinyl and digital formats on May 15th via Projekt Records. Check out the video below.

Love and emotional damage often come through the same door wearing the same coat. It knows that the people who leave the deepest marks are not always monsters. Sometimes they’re simply tired, selfish, careless, or cracked in ways they never bothered to name. Sometimes you are, too.

Hot Hail! enters with “Needle” like a hand reaching out in comfort, only to hammer straight into the bruise. Drawn from the album Hope In Hell, the track understands how tenderness and injury can travel through the same narrow opening, how a soft touch can still leave a lasting puncture. Billy Sigil and company do not play this as open-wound melodrama; they let it move with a slow smile, a silk sleeve, and a sharp nail kept just out of sight. For a song born from a record with such a scorched title, it feels almost perversely elegant: less a public collapse than the private hush after one, when the room has gone still, and all that remains is the taste of whatever just died between two people.

The lyrics approach heartbreak as attrition rather than eruption. There is no smashed-glass tantrum here, no cheap revenge fantasy masquerading as revelation. Billy Sigil writes from the far side of the fire, from a —drained adult territory where blame has begun to seem childish, and disappointment has become so familiar it feels pressed into the wallpaper. The song moves through the slow corrosion of trust, charting the way faith in another person is worn down by minor cuts, missed signals, and the cumulative fatigue of asking for more than life seems prepared to give.

A lacquered, late-night sheen runs through the music, summoning mirrored elevators, empty streets, and expensive mistakes. You can hear the ghost of Violator-era Depeche Mode in the song’s polished ache, with a trace of Fad Gadget’s tense sensuality hovering nearby. Those textures frame a more intimate kind of decay, turning the track into a beautifully bruised meditation on depletion, disillusionment, and the quiet humiliation of realizing that some people drain you by degrees.

Needle by Hot Hail! The title alone, Needle, does a lot of heavy lifting. It suggests medicine, addiction, precision, penetration, poison. It suggests relief and injury arriving through the same narrow point.  It’s a breakup song for people who’ve lived long enough to know that wreckage can arrive quietly, and that the saddest endings are often the ones with no villain, no lesson, and no big finish.

The UK’s Reliquia boast the kind of name that sounds like it ought to be carved into a crypt wall with a stolen hunting knife, and on their new single Bone and Shale, they make good on that promise with a performance so steeped in graveyard glamour and bodily collapse that you can almost smell the dust rising off the chapel floorboards. This is a band with a feel for excess in the old, righteous sense, where every element is pushed until it glows red at the edges, yet the song never buckles under the weight of its own black coat.

Bone and Shale drags doom metal’s solemn stomp into the badlands of gothic rock and lets the two stalk each other. You can hear the bloodlines clear enough: Fields of the Nephilim in the dust-coated vocal grandeur, The Sisters of Mercy in the low-slung bass drive, the folk, dusk, and decay of and also the trees. a touch of The Mission in the grand ache, maybe even a little of The Cult’s scorched mysticism hanging over the rafters.  From those dark legacies, Bone and Shale earns its place as a sepulchral centerpiece. It has scale, drama, danger, and a certain doomed dignity.

Gregg Neville is the ringleader here: one minute, he sounds like he is clawing his way through mud and memory, the next, he lifts into something stately and severe, with that faint Bowie-like gleam and Carl McCoy corrosion giving the song a flash of strange elegance amid all the ruin. Tobias Gray and George Kal lace the track with arpeggiated guitars that circle like carrion birds, then open the gate for those twin-lead harmonies that come charging in with a glorious flash of heavy-metal pageantry. Karim Nashar’s drumming gives the song its spine, steady and forceful, keeping the procession moving even as everything around it seems ready to split apart.

And what a lovely procession of misery it is. This song understands grief as private damage turned outward. The lyrics carry a real sense of spiritual abrasion, of a self being stripped down to raw nerve and then called toward some unseen threshold. The arrangement keeps widening as it moves, letting synths gather like storm weather while the bass locks the track to the earth with iron intent.

For many of us, spring has already sprung; the days are reluctantly getting warmer and the nights are growing just a little more magical. To ring in the change of seasons, Brooklyn-based dream pop band The Harrow have just announced a new four-track EP. We’re honored to premiere the title track from the EP, the lush and driving “The Drowned World.”

“The Drowned World” is nearly five minutes of dreamy post-punk bliss. The track launches out of the gate with pristine energy, taking hold quickly with a propulsive six-string bass line, punchy rhythms, shimmering twin guitar work, warm synthesizers, and heavenly vocals. It twists and turns through ethereal spaces before opening into a glistening, potent chorus. Shades of early New Order, Sad Lovers & Giants, and The Wake can be heard throughout the song, which is as prescient as it is romantic, embracing a sense of longing in an otherwise ruined landscape.

The Drowned World serves as the sister EP to 2024’s Cinderglow, complementary in scope yet in delicate opposition. Across three additional tracks, The Harrow expand their horizons and embrace more organic sonic textures. Returning as producer is Xavier Paradis of Automelodi, who has worked with the band since 2014. The EP was mastered by Hillary Johnson at Kale Shelter Studios.

Guitarist Greg Fasolino, who wrote the lyrics for the track, offers a few words about the “The Drowned World”: 

“The title started as a placeholder, but it stuck. It connected for me with the imagery of Debussy’s ‘The Sunken Cathedral,’ something beautiful and lost beneath the water. From there it grew into a kind of post-apocalyptic shoreline reverie, drawing on J.G. Ballard, La Jetée, and Jean Rollin’s recurring imagery of desolate beaches at Dieppe, where decaying structures dissolve into sand and water.

I imagined people on the strand, lamenting a lost world, surrounded by things that have slipped beneath the waves. It’s not meant to be overtly bleak so much as wistful, a sense of ennui and detachment in the face of impermanence. The world in this song has passed beyond human shaping; all we can do is sit and watch. There’s a kind of numbed nostalgia in it, which also mirrors the relationship in the song. I kept that deliberately ambiguous, but imagine two people huddled together, watching the sea, birds passing overhead…a seaside echo of The World, the Flesh and the Devil.

I like that the lyrics sit in contrast with the breezy, buoyant groove of the music, which John had composed much earlier, as it’s a juxtaposition you hear in a lot of beloved mid-’80s jangly post-punk, like The Smiths or Felt.”

Mit einem Video zu “Invocation of the Dreamer” stellen KHEMMIS den ersten Song ihres neuen Albums vor. Die fünfte Platte der Band aus Denver trägt den Titel „Khemmis“, der Nachfolger des 2021er Albums „Deceiver“ erscheint am 12. Juni 2026.

 

Ben Hutcherson erklärt, was der Band beim neuen Album wichtig war:

„Wir haben schon früh beschlossen, dass wir ein kompaktes, energiegeladenes Album schreiben wollten, das den typischen ‚KHEMMIS-Sound‘ beibehält und gleichzeitig die Freude am Schaffen, Erleben und Lieben von Heavy Metal verkörpert. Unsere Songs waren schon immer sehr persönlich und entstanden aus Tragödien und Trauer. Sie sind nach wie vor unbestreitbar düster – ich glaube nicht, dass wir  ‚fröhliche‘ Musik schreiben oder unsere Musik von unseren persönlichen Erfahrungen trennen können–, doch sie entspringen nicht unserem Leiden. Stattdessen ist dieses Album eine Hommage an die Musikwelt, die uns trägt, uns Gemeinschaft und einen Sinn gegeben hat. Die Energie und Begeisterung unserer frühesten Tage als Band sind zurück, und der Wunsch, laute, harte Musik zu spielen. BAD STUFF veröffentlichen am 5. Juni 2026 ihr Debütalbum „Bad Stuff“ via Relapse Records.

Zur Band gehören die TRUE WIDOW-Mitglieder Dan Phillips and Nicole Estill sowie Jackie Dunn Smith, Gabriel Spatz und Laura Hartman Pearl.

„Die Songs unserer beiden Bands lagen einfach da – ein Set, das ich für LATENT PRINT geschrieben hatte, und ein weiteres, das Jackie auf einem Vierspur-Recorder aufgenommen hatte. Eines Tages beschlossen wir, alles zusammenzufügen und zu sehen, ob es funktioniert“, erinnert sich Phillips. „Und es hat funktioniert. Als wir die Reihenfolge für die Platte festlegten, wurde dieses ‚Umschalten‘ deutlich – es gibt nicht nur einen Sound oder einen Stil. Das sorgt wirklich für das richtige Tempo der Platte und bringt jeden einzelnen Song zur Geltung.“

Hinter HELD. stecken keine Unbekannten: Douglas Robinson und Bassist Sal Mignano (beide THE SLEEPING) haben sich mit Schlagzeuger Josh Eppard (COHEED AND CAMBRIA) zusammengetan, um am 15. Mai 2026 ihr Debütalbum „Grey“ zu veröffentlichen. Erscheinen wird die Scheibe, die von Jon Markson produziert wurde, via MNRK Heavy.

STATIC DRESS haben ein neues Zuhause gefunden: Künftig arbeitet die Post Hardcore- / Screamo-Band mit Sumerian Records zusammen. Erscheinen wird das Album „Injury Episode“ am 29. Mai 2026, mit „Nostalgia Kills“ gibt es außerdem eine weitere Single-Auskopplung. Der Track ist eine Kollaboration mit UNDEROATH.

TROY THE BAND präsentieren ihr neues Album „(des)“ mit der Single „Journey’s End„.

Zuvor teilte die Gruppe „Adoration of Ill Luck„. Die Nummer enthält eigentlich einen Gastbeitrag von Ana-Maria Terr Bordei, die nun sogleich als permanentes Bandmitglied vorgestellt wurde.

Das Stück folgt „The Moment“ nach; es ist die dritte Auskopplung aus der Platte, die im Sommer 2026 erscheinen soll. Zuvor gab es bereits den Preview-Track „Nothing„.

Außerdem ist „Porous“ verfügbar. Bei dem Stück handelt es sich um eine Kollaboration mit Sängerin Soozi Chameleone. Die Single markierte das erste neue Material seit dem Album „Cataclysm“ (2024).

„(des)“ erscheint am 3. Juli 2026.

LORDI haben einen neuen Song veröffentlicht: „Pan-Tah-Meh-Rah“ ist keine klassische Single, sondern Teil einer Werbekampagne der schwedischen Recycling-Initiative Pantamera. Das Stück selbst ist eine freie Neuinterpretation des Songs „Guantanamera“.

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY brachten ein neues Album raus: „Good God / Baad Man“ ist ein Doppelalbum und erschien am 3. April 2026 via Nuclear Blast.

„Mit der Zeit kamen so unterschiedliche Songs zusammen, dass man meinen könnte, wir hätten zwei verschiedene Richtungen eingeschlagen“, blickt Sänger/Gitarrist Pepper Keenan  zurück. „Wir mussten sie auf zwei verschiedene Alben aufteilen, so entstand dieses Konzept. Unser Produzent Warren Riker nannte es immer wieder ‚Dark Side Of The Doom‘. Für mich ist es eine seltsame Liebeserklärung an alles, was mit Rock ’n’ Roll zu tun hat. Wir haben uns die Freiheit genommen, verschiedene Richtungen einzuschlagen. Jedes Album ist ein eigenes kleines Universum und hat seine eigene Identität. Good God tendiert eher zum härteren und wütenden Ende des Spektrums. Baad Man ist eher im Bereich des Throwdown-Rock angesiedelt. Im Laufe der Zeit wurde klar, welche Songs auf welches Album kommen.“

„Good God / Baad Man“  ist das erste COC-ALbum seit dem Tod ihres Drummers Reed Mullin, der 2020 gestorben ist.  Zur aktuellen Besetzung von COC gehören Drummer Stanton Moore, der auch auf dem 2005er CORROSION OF CONFORMITY-Album „In The Arms Of God“ zu hören ist, sowie Bassist Bobby “Rock” Landgraf (Down, HONKY) und die beiden Gründungsmitglieder Pepper Keenan  und Woody Weatherman.

Nun haben COC ein weiteres Video von „Good God / Baad Man“ geteilt:

Als erste Single teilten CORROSION OF CONFORMITY im Februar ‚Gimme Some Moore‘, bei dem Track sind MINISTRY’s Al Jourgensen und Gitarrist Monte Pittman zu hören.

 

Produziert hat das Doppelalbum Warren Riker, die Coverart kommt von Scott Guion, „Good God / Baad Man“ entstand im Blak Shak Studios in Riffissippi, USA, Dockside Studios in Maurice, Louisiana und Bee Gee Barry Gibb’s Studio in Miami, Florida.

Die Folk Metal-Band VANSIND hat mit „Hævnen“ ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist nach „Mørket“ (2023) das zweite Album der Dänen und wird am 1. Mai 2026 via Mighty Music erscheinen.

„Mit „Hævnen“ wollten wir die dunklen Seiten von Entscheidungen, Loyalität und Verlust erkunden. Es ist ein Album darüber, zu seiner Meinung zu stehen, auch wenn der Preis dafür hoch ist“, sagt die Band.

Vorab gibt es nach „Det Sidste Nådeskys“ mit „Alvild“ einen weiteren Video-Clip.

Das Symphonic Metal-Projekt DIANNE hat mit „The Quietude“ – mit Opern-Sängerin Elena Vink – einst Mentorin von Dianne van Giersbergen, Perttu Kivilaakso (APOCALYPTICA) am Cello, Ben Mathot (AYREON) an der Violine und Joost van den Broek (EPICA), der für die Orchestration verantwortlich zeichnet – eine siebte Single ihres Albums „Soulward Bound“ veröffentlicht.

„‚The Quietude‘ ist ein Dialog zwischen den Zeitaltern, angesiedelt in einer zeitlosen Leere. Es ist ein Duett zwischen der träumerischen Künstlerin, die ich heute bin, dem Kind, das ich einmal war, und der Frau, die ich zu werden hoffe. Der Song ist eine freundliche Erinnerung daran, die Gegenwart willkommen zu heißen und die Vergangenheit zu schätzen“, sagt die Sängerin.

Noch im Vorjahr ist mit „Phantom of War“ die sechste Vorab-Single ihres Albums erschienen. Bei diesem Song wirkten Sänger Francesco Paoli (FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE), Gitarrist Jord Otto (REVAMP, VUUR), Bassist Siebe Sol Sijpkens (BLACKBRIAR) und Drummer Ivo Maarhuis (FLOOR JANSEN, FOR I AM KING) mit.

Im Frühling 2025 ist mit „The Elders‘ Call“ – mit PATTY GURDY – die fünfte Single des Albums erschienen. Zuvor ist mit „Flameborn“ die vierte Single erschienen.

„“Flameborn“ ist eine autobiografische Geschichte über die Wiederherstellung einer verlorenen Freundschaft. Es ist meinem lieben Freund und ehemaligen XANDRIA-Bandmitglied Steven Wussow gewidmet, der bei diesem Song auch die Bassgitarre spielt “, sagt die Sängerin, die bei diesem Song von Marcela Bovio (STREAM OF PASSION, MAYAN) unterstützt wird.

Im März dieses Jahres ist die Single „A Symphonic Tragedy“ erschienen. Der Song sei eine Ode an die Stimme, als dass sich die Sängerin über ihre lebensrettende Bauchoperation öffnet, die sie vor fünf Jahren über sich ergehen lassen musste und die nicht ohne Risiko war:

„Diese Operation hat mich zwar gerettet, aber ich hätte auch das verlieren können, was mein lebenslanger Begleiter, mein Zufluchtsort und meine große Liebe war: meine Stimme.“

Im Herbst 2023 ist mit „Unleash the Siren“ die zweite Single des Albums erschienen. Dabei handelt es sich um einen Song über den Umgang mit einer posttraumatischen Belastungsstörung.

Im Februar 2023 ist mit „After The Storm“ eine erste Single des Albums erschienen. Es sei ein Lied darüber, für sich selbst einzustehen und seine Position als Spielfigur im Krieg eines anderen aufzugeben.

„Soulward Bound“ ist das erste Album des von Dianne van Giersbergen (EX LIBRIS, Ex-XANDRIA) ins Leben gerufenen Projekts, an welchem Produzent und Co-Komponist Joost van den Broek (STAR ONE, Ex-AFTER FOREVER), Gitarrist Isaac Delahaye (EPICA), Bassist Johan van Stratum (BLIND GUARDIAN, STREAM OF PASSION) sowie Drummer Koen Herfst (VANDENBERG) mitwirken. Der Release des Albums könnte jedoch noch dauern, als dass die Künstlerin plant, bis zum Albumrelease jedes Jahr zwei neue Singles daraus zu veröffentlichen, ehe es nach fünf Jahren zur richtigen Veröffentlichung kommen soll.

Die beiden Doom / Heavy / Hard Rock-Bands ALUNAH – mit der neuen Sängerin Daisy Savage – und SAMAVAYO haben mit „Embers of Belief“ eine neue Split angekündigt. Release-Termin ist der 5. Juni 2026 via Heavy Psych Sounds. Vorab gibt es den SAMAVAYO-Track „Bavar“ zu hören.

„“Bavar“ ist von einem persischen Gedicht von Siavash Kasraie inspiriert. Es ist ein trotziger Aufschrei gegen Trauer und Sterblichkeit: Der Erzähler weigert sich, den Tod geliebter Menschen zu akzeptieren, und klammert sich an die Liebe, an gemeinsame Tränen und an den Atem des Lebens als Beweis dafür, dass man den Verlust nicht wirklich glauben oder sich ihm hingeben kann“, sagt die Band.
