Braucht man eine Neuaufnahme einer 30 Jahre Veröffentlichung?
Einer sagt so, eine so…

Bis jetzt habe ich mit Neuaufnahmen durchweg miese Erfahrungen gemacht, wobei „Under The Sign Of Hell“ von Gorgoroth, da am härtesten reingeschissen hat.
Auch mit Re-Mix und –Mastern habe ich lange Zeit keine guten Erfahrungen gemacht, bis Cradle Of Filth mit „Cruelty And The Beast“ und Dimmu Borgir mit „Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia“ dieses Blatt beim mir gewendet haben.
Ok, liegt mir nun also die Neuaufnahme von „Sylphlike“ vor.
Das Original war mir bekannt, habe ich aber nicht oft gehört, da ich damals mit dem Debüt „Towards The Twilight“ bei NIGHT IN GALES eingestiegen bin und bis mit „The Last Sunsets“ wieder voll durchgestartet wurde, habe ich auch immer nur das Debüt gehört. Jetzt habe ich natürlich noch ein paar Mal in die alte Aufnahme reingehört, bevor ich das neue Werk reviewen wollte. Und ich muss sagen, die Aufnahme von ´95 hat ihren Charme nicht verloren. Zudem muss man neidlos zugestehen, dass die Songs damals schon ein hohes Niveau aufgewiesen haben, sodass man die Neuaufnahme auch einfach als reguläre EP wahrnehmen könnte. Die 5 Songs und das Instrumental variieren ein wenig in der Spielzeit, im Gegensatz zum Original, aber ansonsten hat sich zwischen den beiden Scheiben nichts geändert. Ok, Chris Bass (jetzt bei Heaven Shall Burn) ist von Adriano ersetzt worden und im Cover sind ein paar Totenkopfsilhouetten dazugekommen. Aber sonst alles beim Alten! Zumindest konnte ich nichts wahrnehmen, was sich da geändert hätte. Aufgefallen ist mir nur, dass Sänger Christian mit seiner Stimme auf einem anderen Level angekommen ist, was man schon hören kann. Die Musiker sind sicherlich auch besser geworden, spielen ja aber das gleiche. Die alte Aufnahme klingt für die Zeit und die Umstände wirklich schon echt geil, auch heute noch. Die Neuaufnahme ist natürlich modern produziert und klingt fett und geil.
Lange Rede, kurzer Sinn: Mir gefällt immer die Aufnahme besser, die ich grad höre, da beide großartig sind und ihren eigenen Reiz haben. Hätte ich damals schon das Original gehabt, wäre die wahrscheinlich mein Favorit, aber so ist es eben nicht. Ich bin auch froh, mir direkt eine CD vorbestellt zu haben, denn erst kurz vor dem Release hat Tobbe mir gesteckt, dass ich in seiner Dankesliste auftauche. Dafür bedanke ich mich wiederrum. Die CD wird immer einen besonderen Platz bei mir bekommen. Jetzt fehlen mir zu meinem absoluten NIGHT IN GALES Glück nur noch 2 Sachen. Ein „Towards The Twilight“-Shirt von damals und ein Gastgesang bei einem Song auf dem neuen Album. Das wäre der Oberhit… (hendrik)

Die Band SOULS OF SORROW um den charismatischen Sänger und Gründer Daniel Hapke alias Dan Peters aus Gerlingen konnte mich mit ihrer Debüt-EP voll überzeugen. Etwas über ein Jahr später liegt nun bereits der Longplayer „King In The Past“ vor. Und… die nicht so gering aufgehängte Messlatte wird behände übersprungen.

Der Opener „Sometimes“ lässt sich durch ein spannungsgeladenes Intro genügend Zeit für den Aufbau. Langsam, aber durchdringend wird die Energiezufuhr tröpfelnd eingefügt und gipfelt in einem dynamischen Refrain. Dazwischen variiert Daniel zwischen Höchstleitung und verträumter Elegie. Ein dramatisches Kleinod zwischen Goth Metal und verführerischem Dark Rock. Kurz gesagt, ein geiler Song, der auch von den variablen Stimmbändern lebt. Textlich geht es um die täglichen Kämpfe gegen den innerlichen Schmerz. Das Thema Kampf steht auch im folgenden „Renegade“ im Mittelpunkt und dürfte insgesamt zentrales Thema des „Konzept“-Albums sein. Das explosive Stück würde ich hier mal als Stadionrock für AC/DC Fans einordnen, wenn sie eine durchzechte Nacht mit BEASTIE BOYS und einem Thriller-Album durchgestanden haben. Und dort hinterm Schrank, genau dort, da ist die Melodie und die durchdringende Faszination. Der Titelsong ist hart, kompromisslos in seiner Erscheinung, aber diese Stimme, sie nimmt dich in den Arm und lässt dir wohlige Schauer über den Rücken laufen. Staubtrockene Energie ist das Grundgerüst des treibenden „End of me“, das bedrückend von Verlust erzählt und doch hoffnungsvoll vom Weiterleben der Seele, darüber wachen und dem Wiedersehen irgendwann berichtet. Das Thema „Tod“ ist auch bei „Death in me“ tragende Säule und ganz dezent erinnert mich die „Erzählung“ fast an Freuds Todestrieb. Musikalisch geht man meist etwas ruhiger und leicht balladesk zu Werke. Hinzu kommen doomige Klanglandschaften. Beginnend mit Sprachsamples entwickelt sich das betörende „Reborn“ zu einer Goth Rock Hymne mit leichtem Pop-Einschlag. Warmer Gesang wechselt mit rauen Vocals und wird wunderschön mit weiblichen Backings ergänzt. Ein tragisches und dennoch eingängiges Klangerlebnis.

Das samt Video bereits vorab veröffentlichte „Hour of the Ghosts“ ist ein halsbrecherischer Burner. Von Beginn an kraftvoll und voll auf die Zwölf ausgerichtet, gelingt es bei aller brachialer Härte, besonders im Refrain harmonische Soundstrukturen zu integrieren. Zudem begeistert der variantenreiche Gesang, der von melodisch-verführerisch über phobisch kreischend bis hin zu growlig fast das gesamte Repertoire des Dark Metals aufweist. Eine wahre Horror-Punk-Explosion. Ein bisschen LORD OF THE LOST, ein bisschen THE OTHER und die Liebe zur ungeschliffenen Roh-Version der Rocky Horror Show. Wer nicht tanzt wirft mit Popcorn.

„Kings of Darkness“ ist ein intensiver, teils tief-tönender Rock Epos voller klassischer Eruption. Verschiedene Stimmfarben und leichte Tempowechsel sorgen für reichlich Abwechslung, wobei auch mal die progrockige Attitüde das Zwischenspiel befeuert. Zum Schluss gibt es das wehmütige „Song of the world“, welches Shane MacGowan immer nach dem letzten Bier kurz vor der Sperrstunde anstimmte (Nein, Scherz). Eine verträumte Folk-Ballade voller Sehnsucht. Hier wird in Form von Verlustangst die Schönheit der Natur und des Lebens beschrieben.

SOULS OF SORROW ist nicht nur eine Band, sondern ein kreatives Kollektiv, das sich bis heute selbst produziert und managed. Die vier Mitglieder bringen eine spannende Vielfalt mit, die sich in ihrer Musik und ihren mitreißenden Live-Shows perfekt ergänzt. Jedes Bandmitglied tritt in maßgefertigter Kleidung und mit kunstvollem Make-Up auf, was ihre einzigartige Ästhetik unterstreicht. Letzteres mag mancher etwas drüber finden, ist aber wichtiger Bestandteil des audiovisuellen Gesamtkunstwerks. (andreas)

LAST DUSK ist eine Gothic Rock Band aus San José, Costa Rica, die 2010 von Carfax gegründet wurde und als erste costa-ricanische Goth-Band im Ausland auftrat. Ihr aktuelles Werk ist das dritte Full Length Album nach „Momento Mori“ 2016 und „As the Young die“ von 2019. LAST DUSK besteht aus Carfax Haddo (Vocals und Bass), Diego Cervantes (Guitars) und Lee Meadows (Drum Sequences). Und das Trio macht einen wirklich guten Job. Betörende Stimme und ein gelungenes Gefühl für tragische Songstrukturen. Hinzu kommt diese samtene Eleganz, welche den Songs innewohnt.

Der Opener „No Land in Sight“ scheint zu Beginn das Cover zu instrumentieren. Doch nach dem kurzen Intro folgt eine galante gothrockige Wave-Hymne, deren Innerstes fast balladesk die warme Stimme unterlegt. Wunderschöne dunkle Klangspektren beherrschen den Song. Der Text ist eine bedrückende Anklage an die Herrschenden dieser Welt. Es geht um Unterdrückung und Ausbeutung. Es folgt das leicht verträumte, mit MISSION-Saiten verfeinerte „Frozen Deep“. Ein düsteres Stück, welches zudem leichtgängig in die Gehörgänge fließt.

„Blend the Mist“ geht zu Beginn ein wenig Richtung JOY DIVISION, während der Song ansonsten mit angezogener Handbremse eher schleichend und sehr Drum-lastig nach vorne marschiert. „Tides“ beherbergt im Mark ein wenig Wave Pop der 80er, wobei mich hier nicht nur die Stimme ein wenig DEAD OR ALIVE erinnert mit leichtem Einfluss von THE CULT. Etwas schräger inszeniert ist „Doldrums“, während die Hookline samt klagender Stimmbänder richtig schön tragisch daherkommt. Puristischen, schnellen Goth Rock liefert „Silent Wave“. Der verführerische Gesang konterkariert hier die schreienden Saiten und bewahrt den Song vor all zu punkigen Verhältnissen. Zentrale Aussage ist: „It’s not the heart that leads to emnity, it is the tongue“. Großartig, wie im folgenden „At Sea“ BAUHAUS Atmosphäre auf wilde SISTERS Gitarren trifft und der Gesang zwischen erzählender Sprachgewalt und harmonischer Schwermut wandert. Zum Schluss gibt es mit dem flirrenden „Walk on Water“ noch einen sehnsuchtsvollen Lovesong. Das Ganze verziert mit reichlich Saiten-Gefrickel.

Fazit: Ein gelungenes Album, im Mark verspielt und dennoch mit reichlich nebelverhangener Düsternis gesegnet. Hinzu kommen schwermütige Texte voller Verzweiflung und Hoffnungslosigkeit, welche als Gegengift teilweise eine immanente Wut aufweisen. Carfax gelingt es, die Gefühlswelten in seine Stimmbänder fließen zu lassen und so die Melancholie der Texte mit der Dunkelheit der Musik verschmelzen zu lassen. (andreas)

Speaking about the new video, songwriter and lead vocalist Carmelo Orlando shared : „This is a very diverse track that blends many of our influences from early ’90s avant-garde death metal. There’s a use of left and right harmonies very typical of what was played around ’94-’95. The layered fast-picked riffs are also strongly anchored in the European scene of that period. It’s a song that breathes and has moments of melodic openness, with a very catchy chorus. I believe mixing it wasn’t an easy task for Dan Swanö, but as usual, he managed to make it clear and defined in every part. Its lyrics speak of the innocence and solitude of electric-blue souls – figuratively, like the planet Neptune. Little flames that know no malice and live in a stray way, in packs, for companionship, out of fear of the dark hours.For this video, we completely relied on the experience of Greta and her Kinorama Studio’s team. It was a fun yet highly professional journey. We truly appreciated how they managed to blend old analog techniques with modern digital artistry. The outdoor scenes are pure cinematic art – the best Italian landscapes and the outstanding performances of these young, talented actors turned this video into a real little treasure.“

Στις 11 Οκτωβρίου 2025 το θρυλικό βρετανικό gothic rock συγκρότημα The Nosferatu επιστρέφει στην Αθήνα, μετά από μια εξαιρετικά επιτυχημένη λατινοαμερικανική περιοδεία, κατά την οποία επισκέφθηκε το Μεξικό, την Κόστα Ρίκα, το Περού, τη Χιλή και τη Βραζιλία και πρόκειται να εμφανιστεί στο Amphi Festival και το Wave Gothic Treffen Festival το 2025.
 
Οι The Nosferatu είναι ένα βρετανικό γοτθικό ροκ συγκρότημα που επιδίδεται σε ξεσηκωτικούς ροκ ύμνους, με βαριές κιθάρες και περίτεχνες ενορχηστρώσεις, σε συνδυασμό με τα χαρακτηριστικά βαρύτονα φωνητικά του είδους.
Οι The Nosferatu σχηματίστηκαν από τις στάχτες της αρχικής εποχής Rise των Nosferatu, ενός συγκροτήματος που σχηματίστηκε το 1987. Το συγκρότημα κατέχει μια θρυλική θέση στη gothic rock σκηνή και είναι διάσημο για την κινηματογραφική του προσέγγιση σε κομμάτια όπως τα “Rise”, “Dark Angel” και “Alone”.

Μετά από ένα συγκλονιστικό καλοκαιρινό πρώτο εγχείρημα τον Ιούλιο του 2023 στη Τεχνόπολη του Δήμου Αθηναίων και την επιτυχημένη indoor εκδοχή του τον χειμώνα του 2024 στο Fuzz Live Music Club, η ομάδα του Death Disco επιστρέφει στις αρχές του Φθινοπώρου του 2025. Με headliners τη Νew Wave ποιήτρια και πρωτεργάτη της ηλεκτρονικής μουσικής Αnne Clark από τη μια, και τον Peter Hook, τον ίσως σημαντικότερο μπασίστα όλων των εποχών και τον μοναδικό άνθρωπο στη γη που κρατάει ζωντανό το πνεύμα των Joy Division, το Death Disco βάζει με το καλημέρα τις βάσεις για ένα ακόμα άχαστο διήμερο Open Air Festival.

H Anne Clark, έχοντας στη φαρέτρα της μια εντυπωσιακή δισκογραφία και μερικά από τα πιο εμβληματικά singles όλων των εποχών (με μπροστάρη το απόλυτο club hit “Οur Darkness” που μέχρι και σήμερα βρίσκει με την ίδια ευκολία τον χώρο του στα σκοτεινά αλλά και στα ηλεκτρονικά / techno dancefloors) και με την ώθηση που της έδωσε η πρόσφατη sold out ευρωπαϊκή της περιοδεία, επιστρέφει στην Αθήνα με full band,17 ολόκληρα χρόνια μετά την τελευταία της επίσκεψη.

O Peter Hook, με τη δουλειά του στους Joy Division και τους Νew Order να θεωρείται αξεπέραστη, έρχεται με τη μπάντα του τους Peter Hook and Τhe Light, να μας παρουσιάσει ένα σετ αποκλειστικά βασισμένο σε αυτά τα δύο μεγαθήρια της post punk / new wave / synth pop μουσικής. Μαζί τους ένα ακόμα εμβληματικό post punk σχήμα του Μanchester, οι Chameleons. Ένα από τα πιο επιδραστικά και ταυτόχρονα παραγκωνισμένα σχήματα της εναλλακτικής μουσικής των 80’s, που στις μέρες μας βρίσκει την αναγνώριση που του αξίζει με μπάντες σαν τους Interpol και τους Oasis να τους αναφέρουν σαν μεγάλη τους επιρροή και να θεωρούνται πλέον μια από τις μεγαλύτερες post punk μπάντες όλων των εποχών.

Το νέο αίμα της σκηνής εκπροσωπείται επάξια με τους Buzz Kull του Αυστραλού Marc Dwyer. Mετά τη sold out εμφάνισή τους στις αρχές του 2024, επιστρέφουν στην Αθήνα με το μοναδικό ΕBM / Industrial / Cold Wave δημιούργημά τους, ότι πιο φρέσκο και καινοτόμο έχει να προσφέρει η σύγχρονη “dark” μουσική. 

Η πρώτη πεντάδα συγκροτημάτων, συμπληρώνεται με τους Γερμανούς Κlangstabil, που επιστρέφουν το 2025 στη συναυλιακή δράση για να αποδείξουν σε όλο το κόσμο και από σκηνής γιατί θεωρούνται το κορυφαίο σχήμα της IDM / Electro μουσικής.

Το Σάββατο 20 και τη Κυριακή 21 Σεπτεμβρίου 2025, η Αθήνα θα είναι και πάλι στο συναυλιακό επίκεντρο της “σκοτεινής” μουσικής. Το Σάββατο 1 Νοεμβρίου, το εντυπωσιακά δραστήριο ελληνικό fan club τους υποδέχεται για άλλη μια φορά στο Death Disco τους μοναδικούς Solar Fake για μία δυνατή εμφάνιση γεμάτη ηλεκτρονική ενέργεια, σκοτεινή pop αισθητική και έντονο συναίσθημα.
 
Το αγαπημένο electro project του Sven Friedrich επιστρέφει στην Ελλάδα για να μας παρασύρει σε μια βραδιά γεμάτη πάθος, ρυθμό και ένταση.
 

Οι Solar Fake είναι ένα από τα σημαντικότερα συγκροτήματα της ευρωπαϊκής dark electro/synthpop σκηνής. Δημιουργήθηκαν το 2007 από τον Sven Friedrich, γνωστό από τους Dreadful Shadows και Zeraphine, και από τότε έχουν διαγράψει μια σταθερά ανοδική πορεία.
Ο ήχος τους συνδυάζει επιδέξια τα στοιχεία της μελωδικής synthpop με την επιθετικότητα της EBM και του industrial, δημιουργώντας ένα μοναδικό ηχητικό αποτύπωμα που είναι ταυτόχρονα χορευτικό και συναισθηματικά φορτισμένο.
Με εξαιρετικές κυκλοφορίες όπως τα “Another Manic Episode”, “You Win. Who Cares?” και το πρόσφατο “Don’t Push This Button”, έχουν εδραιωθεί ως ένα από τα πιο επιδραστικά σχήματα του είδους.
Οι ζωντανές τους εμφανίσεις είναι εκρηκτικές, με τον Sven Friedrich να οδηγεί το κοινό σε μια έντονη μουσική εμπειρία. Οι Solar Fake έχουν εμφανιστεί σε μεγάλα φεστιβάλ όπως το M’era Luna, Amphi και Wave-Gotik-Treffen, ενώ έχουν περιοδεύσει σε όλη την Ευρώπη – και όχι μόνο.

Οι Seadrake αποτελούνται από τον Rickard Gunarrson (Lowe,Statemachine) και τον Μatthias Thurk (ex-Minerve) έχοντας σαν guest τραγουδιστή τον Sir Boyfriend.
Έχουν στενή σχέση με τους Solar Fake καθώς έχουν περιοδεύσει μαζί το 2019 και το 2022.
 

Οι EMPIRE IN DUST είναι το ντουέτο δημιούργημα του παραγωγού και τραγουδιστή Manuel Mundt.
Ο Manuel περιγράφει τη μουσική τους σαν ένα μείγμα future pop,EBM,darkwave και synth rock.
Μέχρι στιγμής έχουν κυκλοφορήσει το άλμπουμ ‘Α Place To Rest’
ενώ μέσα στο 2025 αναμένεται η νέα τους δουλειά με τίτλο ‘Riven’.

After a long time there is new music from the Netherlands in the form of the video single "Don't Pray".

The lyrics of this track are a powerful commentary on the hypocrisy and emptiness of religious institutions and the people who lead them. The band's use of strong imagery and striking metaphors paints a vivid picture of their message, making it impossible to ignore.

The lyrics are delivered with a raw and emotional intensity that perfectly captures the frustration and disillusionment of the song's subject, encapsulating the band's disdain for the phoniness and insincerity of those in power. The backing vocals by Yvette Winkler (singer with Dark Wave band ‘Vaselyne’) perfectly complement Frank Weyzig’s voice, creating a harmonious blend that captures the emotions of the lyrics.

Originally as a solo project by Luke J.B. Rafka brought to life in 2010 for the public, it has now grown into a grandiose 2-man project. While Luke puts world events into words without inhibition V-nerV has been providing the electronic background since 2016. electronic background in the form of his compositions.

The first single "Spiegel der Gesellschaft" will be released on February 24th with the original song, a club edit and remixes by Relate, Superikone, ANTIAGE, Das(X)Periment and U.M. Fiedel and the first partby the song "Ein Gespräch zwischen Sonne & Erde". Parallel to the single, a video will be released which was created by Maik E. Baptist.

We are happy to announce the release of WINTER's new studio album "Looking Further Back" in cooperation with Wintergothic Records in April 2023.

This time, "Looking Further Back" presents newly mixed highlights from earlier times as well, but not exclusively. In fact, only six of the eleven titles are previously released material. Five songs are brand new and as of yet unreleased. (There are even six new tracks on the CD, the CD bonus track is already a foretaste of the new album “Heroes”, which will be released in autumn).

WINTER stays true to his course with "Looking Further Back". And that means that he basically doesn't have a rigorous line here either. Again, he moves within his self-defined framework, somewhere between AOR rock, hard rock, pop, wave and gothic. As always with a proper 80s touch and a feeling for catchy choruses that get stuck in the listener's ear.

The album will be released on CD (with a bonus track), as well as digitally and on strictly limited (300 copies) Black Dust splatter vinyl.

April has it all. Once again the Beckum-based HEMESATH are going on TOUR with the NDH actors from MAERZFELD and will be standing their ground in Cologne from April 8th on the mostly German stages. As in spring 2022, HEMESATH will heat up the audience with the songs from the second studio album "So Schön" and thus pass on the audience at the individual stations to the headliners of MAERZFELD at least at operating temperature.

HEMESATH warm up before the start of the TOUR and will be supported by their colleagues PROTZ on two concert evenings in March (10.03. and 11.03.).

"With the new video single "Viva La Insomnia featuring A-X-Amun" Merry Chicklit starts the year 2023 and thus initiates a whole series of single and video releases which will lead to the release of the new studio album in autumn.

Her last single "Feuer speit das Ungeheuer" was very successful with number 5 (best position in 8 weeks) in the German Alternative Charts (DAC).

"Viva La Insomnia featuring A-X-Amun" is the insane mix of drum ‘n’ bass beats, borderline trip hop and crazy vocals. A new way / wave of electro punk pop!

Merry Chicklit features the project A-X-Amun signed on the Danse Macabre label.

Khalid's and Eva's vocals together create excitement, power and drama! The song is exciting with surprising twists. Nevertheless, pop structures and pretty melodies can be found as well.

In 2017, PORN released their third album “The Ogre Inside - Act I”, the first act of a trilogy based on the enigmatic character Mr Strangler. In 2019, the band released the second act of its trilogy, “The Darkest Of Human Desires – Act II”. Now, on March 27th, 2020, PORN return with the final act: “No Monsters In God's Eyes – Act III”.

After collaborating with Tom Baker (responsible for the mastering of legendary albums like Marilyn Manson's “Antichrist Superstar”, NIN's “Downward Spiral”, Ministry's “Psalm 69” or Rob Zombie's “Hellbilly Deluxe”), PORN entrusted Brian Lucey (Magic Garden Studio in Los Angeles) with the mastering of this album. Lucey previously worked with Ghost, Marilyn Manson, Depeche Mode, Arctic Monkeys, Royal Blood ...

PORN have released several singles from the new album in the past couple of months and the new single for the track "Low Winter Hope, Pt.2" will be published on feb, 21st along with a music video.

We're proud to announce the cooperation with german based band THANATEROS for future single and album releases. The band is already working on new material to be released next year and hopefully will play live shows again in the near future.

In the meantime we will also take care of the current longplayer INSOMNIA in terms of promotion and distribution incl. a special release through ECHOZONE in autumn this year. More news and details about this coming soon.

We're happy to announce the return to ECHOZONE of german based Electro band MINUSHEART for the release of their brand new album this spring. There will be a new single and video coming beginning of april and more to be announced soon.
