Die Stoner Rock-Band BELZEBONG hat einen Labeldeal bei Heavy Psych Sounds Records unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen werden die Polen ihr neues Album „The End Is High“ veröffentlichen. Es ist das erste neue Album der Band nach fast einem ganzen Jahrzehnt.

„The End Is High“ wurde von Haldor Grunberg (MENTOR, THAW) aufgenommen und gemixt und wird am 20. Februar 2026 erscheinen. Vorab gibt es den Track „420 Horsemen“ zu hören.

Die Death Metal / Crust-Band SKULLD hat einen Labeldeal bei Time To Kill Records unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen werden die Italiener ihr neues Album „Abyss Calls To Abyss“ veröffentlichen. Es ist nach „The Portal Is Open“ (2024) das zweite Album der 2019 gegründeten Band. Mit dem Video-Clip zu „The Blink“ gibt es nun die erste Vorab-Single.

Das Album, welches am 30. Januar 2026 erscheinen wird, greift feministische und heidnische Themen auf, wobei esoterische Reflexion und gesellschaftspolitisches Bewusstsein zu einem zusammenhängenden, kathartischen Ganzen verschmelze.

PAUL GILBERT hat mit „WROC“ ein neues Album angekündigt. Der Titel steht für „Washington’s Rules of Civility“ – dem Ursprung der Lyrics für das Album, als dass der Gitarrist von MR. BIG und RACER X sich vom Etikette-Leitfaden von George Washington aus dem späten 16. Jahrhundert inspirieren ließ.

Qual’s next offering, Love Zone, kicks in like a steel door hurled off its hinges: no fanfare, no polite introduction, just a blunt plunge into William Maybelline’s personal funhouse of ruin. The album—Qual’s fourth LP, arriving November 28, 2025 via Fabrika Records—extends a decade-long descent that began with 2015’s Sable, where Maybelline first carved out a lair of minimal synth, old-school EBM, and analog-scarred industrial electronics.

Built entirely from hardware and steered by Maybelline’s sharpened instinct for abrasion, Love Zone continues his excavation of digital decay, A.I. aftermath, and our dopamine-fried dependence on the screen’s hypnotic glow—a world where there’s always a pill for every ill, and every cure tastes faintly like corrosion. Mixed by Owen Pratt of Uncanny Valley—whose clientele spans Post Malone, Alice Cooper, Arcade Fire, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Lana Del Rey—the album bears a full, organic punch that meshes cleanly with Maybelline’s hardwired vision.

Come With Me hurls its weight forward, thick with industrial clang and synthetic bile, as if Maybelline has found a way to grind paranoia into powder and shoot it straight through the speakers. Technoid hammers land with the force of a factory floor in free-fall, calling back to the industrial tribalism of Sleep Chamber. There’s a rough electricity in the air—the kind you feel before a substation fails and the whole block goes dim. Hardware piles high, knobs twist with missionary zeal, and a voice scraped raw from nights staring down the future like it owes him money.

The self-directed lyric video for Come With Me cranks the delirium further. Scenes dart between toppled monuments, sterile corridors, and warped lo-fi fragments of nature. It’s George Orwell poured into a blender and spiked with a smirk: bleak yet weirdly playful, like a cosmic prank pulled on a dying world. Qual stands in the center of it wearing the expression of someone who has read the last page of the book and doesn’t care for the ending.

If Sable hinted at a disposition for murk and menace, Love Zone grabs that thread and knots it tighter. The A-side traces a vicious arc: technoid punishment, deranged circuitry, and splintered emotion. Come With Me fires first, followed by the bruised throb of For a Moment of Happiness—a slower, more mournful descent than Qual devotees might expect, revealing a facet of Maybelline’s palette that usually hides behind steel plating.

Flip to the B-side, and the floors cave in. Death and Destruction and Beyond This Madness arrive as studies in rancid deterioration, stomping through rusted ruins like condemned machinery still clinging to function. The title track, Love Zone, is abrasive eroticism incarnate—metal meeting flesh with intent. And then there’s Scrolling Your Brains Outs, a classic Qual closer saturated in hard-driven gloom that hits where it hurts, a final message from a brain drowning in the infinite scroll.

Love Zone lands with two vinyl variants—magenta and cyan, each limited to 500 copies. The album scorches, scrapes, provokes, and cackles through the wreckage…a transmission from a bunker where the calendar has collapsed, and the machines have taken over the night shift. Maybelline lurches through these tracks like a doomsday courier, delivering cracked messages from the fringes.

Barcelona’s Huir materializes once more with an ominous darkwave track: Storm, a brooding charge of ions and voltage, with a melody that cracks through the air like a sudden bolt. Ana Of The Head and David Solazo — one armed with synths and vox, the other slinging guitar lines and percussive bursts — established this dark synth duo barely three years ago, but Storm arrives with the force and clarity of thunder that’s been gathering for far longer.

With Storm, Ana delivers her lines like she’s tightening a knot around the throat of the void itself. One moment, she’s all steel and straight-spined declaration; the next, she sinks into a sultry whisper. Sparse alliteration slips through her phrasing, sharp enough to cut the static. Meanwhile, Solazo pours in guitar streaks that glow like coals and drum hits that sound stolen from some dim basement rite. The whole thing moves with a dense electric surge.

Lyrically, they’re staring down tempests, both cosmic and internal; there is talk of being crushed, but unbreakable—talk of refusing to relinquish whatever spark keeps you upright in the maelstrom. Huir writes about endurance like it’s something mundane…because the alternative is nothing less than spiritual rot.

The mood skews toward the forgotten corners of late-’80s cinema, the kind where teenagers in leather jackets outrun curses under flickering boardwalk lights. Storm could have slipped onto The Lost Boys soundtrack without anyone blinking, all smoke machines and crucifixes and that weird California gothic mood that made everything feel bigger than life. Storm feels built for fog, strobe lights, and pounding hearts.

Huir emerged in 2022, and by the following year had made their way to La Distilleria in Italy to shape their debut EP Triumphal Arch Lovers with Maurizio Baggio — the same meticulous hand behind Boy Harsher and The Soft Moon’s most pressurized moments. Baggio returns for Storm, taking on production, mixing, and mastering duties to channel the track’s voltage into something sharp and unmistakably theirs.

With momentum building, Huir have already locked in several key festival slots across Europe. They’ll close out the year, appear at Ombra in Barcelona on December 6, followed by Death Disco Festival in Győr, Hungary (May 30–31, 2026), Eastside Open Air in Halle (Saale), Germany (July 3–4, 2026), and Sounds from the Heart Festival in Zürich (October 24–25, 2026).

Boy Harsher’s pivot toward cinema has been gathering momentum for years. Long before The Runner, the duo were already treating their music videos as short films: the David Lynch–inspired motel-room fever dream for “Face the Fire,” the obsessive noir-voyeur intensity of “Come Closer,” and the doomed vampire story of “Fate,” which plays like a nocturnal film carved down to a few bloody minutes. Their visuals have increasingly leaned into mood over explanation, a tendency sharpened through recurring collaborations with production team Muted Widows, whose work with the band pushes close-ups, negative space, and uneasy stillness into something that feels like scenes lifted from a larger, unseen feature.

By the time The Runner arrived in 2022—an unruly fusion of genre impulses, haunted pop ritual, and blood-tinted surrealism—it was clear that Jae Matthews and Augustus Muller weren’t just scoring imaginary films; they were already halfway to making them. The cast underscored that shift: Kris Esfandiari of King Woman, Mariana Saldaña of BOAN, Cooper B. Handy, and unmasked industrial luminary Kontravoid all drifted through its uncanny frame, forming a constellation of underground figures orbiting Boy Harsher’s expanding visual world. The project paved the way for Matthews’ later screenplay work on werewolf film My Animal, and for Muller’s growing presence in both band and score work—including Safe Mind, his collaborative band with Handy, and an increasingly wide slate of tension-laden compositions.

Now that evolution has arrived in full. The pair have wrapped production on their first feature-length film, The Lonely Woman, a horror-thriller starring Chloë Sevigny, FKA twigs, Sturgill Simpson, and Bonnie “Prince” Billy. The film centers on a grieving woman haunted by the death of her first love inside a mountain tunnel, drawn toward forces described as “seductive and terrifying.” The casting feels pointed, especially with Sevigny, whose long-standing devotion to experimental cinema, queer nightlife, and fringe music has made her a fixture in the very worlds Boy Harsher came up through.

In announcing the project, the band finally acknowledged their sudden disappearance this fall. They explained that if anyone had been wondering where they went, the answer was simple: they were shooting a movie. Production wrapped during an overnight shoot that involved a kill scene, a haze of exhaustion, and what they described as the “drama” of making a first feature. Only then, they said, could they share the secret: the film is called The Lonely Woman.

They described the film as “a horror film, an erotic thriller, a creature feature, a weird one, a fun one, a sweet one,” and credited its completion to “our tremendous cast and crew.” They also thanked Chloë Sevigny directly “for giving everything to The Lonely Woman.”

More details—release information, stills, teasers, and, of course, music—have not been shared yet but are expected soon.

Forty-five years on, Tuxedomoon’s Desire still feels like a transmission from a parallel era; an album that bent the rules of form and mood with an ease that startled even its contemporaries. Today, Crammed Discs marks the occasion with a newly remastered anniversary edition of the band’s pivotal 1981 creation, expanding the original with unearthed recordings, rare cuts, live takes, personal recollections, and a trove of photographs pulled straight from the group’s archives.

Released across vinyl, CD, and digital formats, the expanded edition was remastered from the original tapes and features three previously unheard tracks, two seldom-seen additions, and several vivid live versions. Steven Brown, Gareth Jones, and John Foxx contribute fresh liner notes, joined by writings from Blaine Reininger and Peter Principle (2015), anchoring the release in the group’s lived history as much as its restless inventiveness.

Desire caught Tuxedomoon mid-migration, written in the last gasps of their San Francisco years, recorded in the UK, and issued on Ralph Records before its later home on CramBoy. The album’s mood remains unmistakable: cabaret noir colliding with experimental electronics, jazz phrasing brushing past minimal forms, and a strange romantic charge humming at the center of it all. Decades later, its influence still cuts deep across fields that rarely touch, from rock’s outer fringes to avant-electronic exploration.

The album’s first single, Pyramides, leads the way: an experimental piece shaped by Brown’s current life in Oaxaca, recorded with the city’s pulse as its quiet backdrop. Stripped down yet vivid, the track folds in fragments from a documentary on Monte Albán, turning them into a drifting, otherworldly tableau; an invitation into the landscape that now surrounds him.

There’s a strange, almost ceremonial hush surrounding Annul Noir, as if the duo stepped out of a forgotten wing of Northeast Ohio and carried with them a private weather front of tension and ache. Formed in the early months of 2024 between tour schedules and restless nights, JV Green and Dominic Passalacqua assemble their work with the air of two conspirators deciphering forbidden verses. Somber Sonnets to Die For, their debut single, materializes as heavy-lidded, ice-touched, and steeped in the sense that someone is whispering words of taboo. Its titular song feels like a gothic hymn.

Somber Sonnets To Die For sways with slow conviction, measuring time in sighs and soft thuds. Synths hum behind the bass; guitars scrape the edges, pulling threads of light into narrow beams. Even the silence between phrases feels weighted, as though the air itself is part of the composition.

Green, whose guitar lines once scorched across stages from Brutal Assault to Party San, moves differently here. His touch is leaner, stripped of bombast, more like an architect outlining the corridors of a ruin. There’s a cool patience in the patterns he shapes: beats that seem engineered for late hours when the mind wanders sideways, keys that fall like muted bells, and riffs that advance in quiet procession. His past in Uada and Cloak haunts the corners, but what he does with Annul Noir feels like a coded message delivered through frostbitten breath.

Passalacqua, meanwhile, steps toward the microphone as if addressing an ensemble of waltzing ghosts. The voice: firm, solemn, carrying the grain of someone who has stared long into winter, threads through these tracks. Years inside dark folk and black metal projects have honed his tone into something ceremonial. He occupies the track with an uncanny stillness.

The accompanying video for Somber Sonnets To Die For reinforces this aura: a performance staged in a hazy room – perhaps incense? Where an animal skull watches as an ancient witness, and a bouquet of roses decays in ceremonial grace.

Glisten Trick is a band with a sound that murmurs like it’s been sitting in a dim basement too long, tuning their nerves to the hum of fluorescent doom until the walls start breathing back, and vivid dreams begin their euphoric deluge awash in indescribable textures. Their forthcoming EP, Death Cult Rainbows, tilts from deep, narcotic groove and shimmering blooms of crystalline beauty, into throbbing, acidic loops that sweep beneath unadorned, laconic delivery, as if the band is trying to pry open a seam in their own skulls just to let some colour spill out.

This six-piece is a strange congregation pulled together from cult drone circles, neo-psych travelers, and garage-damaged misfits wandering between the US and the UK. You can hear that mix in the way the song shivers: sharp edges meeting soft haze, discipline cracking under pressure. The lyrics sketch a scene of desire soured, where beauty curdles into ache, and the body becomes a vessel for doubt. The repeated image of “clear blue tears” hits like ice water poured over a wound; longing twisted by betrayal in slow motion.

And then there’s the gut-punch behind it all: “The songs on Death Cult Rainbows, including ‘DEEP CUT,’ are a last-ditch effort to get something beautiful out into the world. I want to leave something beautiful and meaningful for my kids.” You read that and the room tilts. Suddenly, every synth tremor, every low chant, every acidic loop feels like someone clawing at the curtain between disaster and deliverance, trying to pass through something tender before the world slams shut.

Jean De Oliviera’s music video for the song compounds that sense of drifting peril: a psychedelic montage of flowing colour, the frame melting around rising British artists Daisy Rickman and Hugo Winder-Lind, with Portuguese artist T Vagabond flickering in like a messenger from some blissed-out fever. Faces blur. Light bends. It looks like a postcard from the brink, dropped in a puddle and left to bloom.

There’s more coming from Glisten Trick soon: another single in December, one in February, and the full Death Cult Rainbows EP in March. A tour is set for March with smaller shows warming up in February. If this track is the warning shot, the rest might burn straight through the floorboards.

Die sehr charismatischen Schweden, allen voran Frontmann ESKIL SIMONSSON , die ich vor ca. 3 Jahren in Bremen live genießen konnten, haben diesmal eine ganz besondere EP veröffentlicht : Es sind keine neuen Future Pop Songs, denn diese Platte ein Tribut in Gedenken an das ehemalige Band-Mitglied ANDREAS CATJAR DANIELSSON (1973 bis 2024 ) und sein Mitwirken in der „Electro Group“ COVENANT.  Die Gruppe,  die sich 1992 in Helsingborg gegründet hatte, erfüllt mit dieser Veröffentlichung vor allem auch einen sozialen wohltätigen Aspekt, denn die EP ehrt nicht nur den in  2024 verstorbenen 51-jährigen Künstler, sondern hilft auch seine Kinder und Familie zu unterstützen, die Einnahmen fließen also komplett an seine Familie, die Kosten der Produktion wird freundlicherweise vom DEPENDENT-Label des STEFAN HERWIG übernommen – eine tolle Geste. Die fünf Songs von der LP sind alle so ausgewählt worden, das es natürlich nur Tracks sind, die ANDREAS entweder nachbearbeitet hat oder gar von ihm selber konzipiert wurden. Schon beim Cover fällt auf, das die COVENANT Pixelmänner vor ihren Geräten nur zu zweit sind, ein Keyboard bleibt also unbesetzt und zu den Tracks selber sagt z.b. JOAKIM MONTELIUS, „das auf der EP eher die langsameren und ruhigeren Songs ausgewählt wurden“ – die gefallen den Jungs von COVENANT in Verbindung mit ANDREAS am besten. CATJAR selber war ein Künstler, der viele Klaviarturen der Musikausrichtung beherrschte, da sein Hauptjob wohl die Theatermusik war und er aber auch erstaunlicherweise dem Black Metal huldigte, da dies eines seiner Nebenprojekte war. Kurz zu den Songs : Als Fan von LEE HAZLEWOOD, den ich auch sehr vereehrt hatte, gibt es „A Rider On A White Horse“, sowie von YAZOO der Song „Winter Kills“. Die zwei Tracks „I Walk Slow“ und „Slow Dance“ enthalten sehr intensive, düstere Momente mit markanten Elektro Dark Wave Klängen sowie schweren Industrial Anleihen. Im „Nibelungenlied“ (1. Abenteuer) wird textlich von dem Epos im dunklen Ambient-Style erzählt. Hier kommt die Theateraffinität von ANDREAS durch, diese Arbeit war ein Teil der Adaption von FRIEDRICH HEBBELS „Die Nibelungen“ am Staatstheater Mainz in 2018. Ein Meisterwerk und auch hier ein Kunstthema, das mich schon lange Jahre begleitet. Obwohl CATJAR kein Gründungsmitglied von COVENANT war, er trat der Band ab 2013 bei, hat er doch fundamentale Spuren bei COVENANT hinterlassen und damit wird mit dieser EP daran erinnert.

Endlich sind eine meiner absoluten Lieblinge aus Schweden mal wieder mit einem neuen Studio-Longplayer am Start. Man startet mit ‚WDWHL‘ und treibt mich mit diesem Song gleich in den siebenten Himmel, nur wieso macht man aus diesem romantisch schmachtendem Etwas nur eine 2.30 Nummer? Ich begreife es nicht, weil so wunderschön! ‚Hurricane Heart‘ ist lieblicher Shoegaze Pop, ebenfalls weiß ‚Without This Body‘ an den letzten Longplayer anschließen, wissen 80’s Melancholie, Pop und dieser immer bittersüss leidende Habitus durch meinen Blutkreislauf zu schießen und mich lahmzulegen – wunderbar das Ganze. Balladen, oh ja die können die Schweden und ‚Honest Moon‘ klingt nach Herzschmerz, Sehnsucht und wie immer unerfüllter Liebe! Darin sind die Mary Onettes aber mal richtig Weltklasse, und sie werden Dir so richtig den fiesen kleinen Sehnsuchtsmoment erschaffen, in dem Du baden und leiden kannst. Nordisch melancholisch, schwer in Hall getauchte Vocals, viel Pop, quengelige Wave Gitarren und umhüllende Synths aus den Tiefen der 80’s – was will das romantische Herz mehr?  ‚Slide‘ träumt unverhohlen mit viel Pop in der Melodie, man marschiert Gedankenverloren durch den Tag, spielt mit dem Selbstmitleid hier und da und lässt den bittersüßen Tune nie aus dem Ohr, weil er einfach zu schön ist. Manch ein Titel sagt es eben bereits im Titel: ‚Tears To An Ocean‘..„Where nothing is forever“ bringt den sanften, sehnsüchtigen Habitus des Songs hervorragend auf den Punkt. Alles ist simpel gehalten, passt von einem zum nächsten Song perfekt ineinander. Eine perfekte Pop Platte mit Mitteln des Indie Pop, 80s Wave Pop und Shoegaze-Nebel und liebevollen Melodien, die meistens hartnäckig an Dir hängen bleiben. Pathos und Pop machen ‚The Big Shake‘ groß und die akustischen Gitarren, die warmen Synths nebst Sehnsucht-Vocals werden Dich hoffentlich genauso verzaubern. Es wurde Zeit mit diesem 5.Album und Songs wie ‚Eyes Open‘ (feine Female Vocals inklusive), das wehmütige ‚Stop This Melody‘ oder der kongeniale Titelsong können nur die wundervollen Mary Onettes – diese Verbindung aus Indie-lastigen Pop und dieser shoegazenden Wave-Affinität, diesem feinen Weltschmerz liebe ich an den Schweden seit vielen Jahren. „Hit The Waves“ war ein tolles Album, diese neue Rille hier hat zwar nicht den Übersong, ist aber im gesamten schlüssiger und es schmachtet sooo unendlich bittersüß. Mehrstimmige Harmonien (gern mit weiblichen Backings), ein warmer, sanft wippender Groove zeichnet die Schweden aus und macht aus „Sworn“ einen kleinen persönlichen Höhepunkt zum ausklingenden Jahr 2025.

Da haben sich mal zwei Ausnahmemusiker gefunden : Elektronik-Künstler THORSTEN QUAESCHNING, der Kopf nach und seit EDGAR FROESEs Ableben bei Tangerine Dream und STEVE ROTHERY, der bei der Prog Band MARILLION die Gitarrenseiten spielt. Für viele ist das sogar ein überraschendes Join Venture. Für mich eher weniger, da ROTHERY auf der TD Tour 2022 im Set als Gast auftauchte, aber genau genommen waren die gemeinsamen Planungen schon seit 2020 in Gange, weil sich die zwei Künstler da schon in Berlin trafen. Zuvor war man sich bereits 2014 beim „Cruise To The Edge“ Prog Rock Festival auf einem Kreuzfahrtschiff begegnet – beide Gruppen traten hier auch auf. Man kann also sagen, es kommt zusammen, was zusammen gehört und die zehn ( es werden aber nur 5 angezeigt, da es teils als Part 1 und Part 2 deklariert wurde) rein instrumentalen, meistens eher elegisch und im Uptempo gehaltenen Tracks wie auch z.b. Titelsong „Gentö“ präsentieren den Fans die Stärken beider Musiker. Bei THORSTEN sind es halt die auch von TD bekannten episch, emotionalen und voluminösen Klangwelten und von STEVE die grandiosen Gitarrenparts. Die Platte wurde in 5 Tagen im Privatstudio von STEVE im Südwesten Englands eingespielt, das ist sportlich, bedurfte aber wohl sicher einer professionellen Vorarbeit der 2 Protagonisten. Außerdem nahm man sich für die Aufnahmen noch ALEX REEVES von ELBOW an den Drums dazu – also gibt es hier keinen programmierten Rhythmus. Anmerken finde ich, das es bei 1 oder 2 melodiösen Tracks durchaus auch mit passenden Gesang gepaßt hätte, aber allein das wunderbare „Kaleidoscope“ besticht mit einer rockig, poppigen Note und die 2 Musiker sagten auch, das eben die Gitarre in den Songs den Gesang ersetzt. Kann man so auch sehen. Die überwiegend starken Momente auf dem durchweg konstant großartigen Niveau der Veröffentlchung ( alles andere hätte mich auch gewundert) bestehen für mich eher bei den ruhigeren Parts, in denen dann die Gitarrenarbeit von STEVE exzellent zur Geltung kommt und das schöne ist zudem, das die teils kosmischen „Cinema affinen“ Songs nicht zu sehr in die Länge gezogen wurden, wie man es angesichts eines TD Synth-Musikers hätte annehmen können. STEVE sagte noch zum Album : „Ich fand unsere Musik sehr filmisch, es paßte alles sehr gut bei diesem Thema des frühen Kinos ( STEVE und THORSTEN sind große Fans von Kinofilmen und Soundtracks ) und der bewegten Bilder. Es war für uns beide ein musikalisches Gespräch, bei der diese Art von Magie entwickelt wurde, die entsteht wenn 2 verschiedene Musikwelten aufeinderprallen“ ! Schöne Worte. Übriges war ein „BIOSKOP“ ein Ende des 19.Jahrunderts in Deutschland entwickelter Filmprojektor und „Gentö“ war die japanische Form des Vorläufers moderner Projektoren, so das dass Ganze ein vollumfängliches Bild ergibt. Das ist für mich wieder so eine Platte die man am Stück genießen sollte, am besten wohl auf Kopfhörer um die musikalischen Feinheiten der zwei Künstler heraus zu hören, zudem und das sind gute Nachrichten,
sollen noch mehr Platten in dem Stile folgen.

Das Format „Unpluggend“ des TV-Senders MTV war in den 90ern eine überaus erfolgreiche Reihe, bei der Weltstars in intimer Atmosphäre ohne elektrische Unterstützung bzw. konsequent akustisch ein Konzert gaben. Diese insgesamt 125 aufgezeichneten Auftritte waren damals noch richtige Fernseh-Ereignisse und deren Ausstrahlung über MTV regelrechte Straßenfeger. Natürlich wurden viele davon kommerziell in allen Formaten ausgewertet, wie zum Beispiel die von NIRVANA, Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney oder Mariah Carey, welche sich dann auch sehr gut verkauften. Andere Mitschnitte, wie zum Beispiel von THE CURE, Chris Isaak, HOLE oder THE CRANBERRIES wurden unverständlicherweise bisher nie auf Ton- oder Bild-Träger veröffentlicht. Zumindest Fans der letzteren können inzwischen aufatmen, denn endlich wurde der vollständige Unplugged-Auftritt von THE CRANBERRIES bzw. alle 9 Songs zusammen am Stück verfügbar gemacht. Erstmals geschah dies im Rahmen der limitierten 3LP-Ausgabe zum 30. Jubiläum des „No Need To Argue“ in diesem Sommer, welche allerdings sofort ausverkauft war. Dafür erscheint jetzt „MTV Unpluggend“ auch als Einzel-Veröffentlichung im LP- und CD-Format, so das man sich endlich wieder von der markanten Stimme Dolores O’Riordan und deren zärtlich-akustischen Untermalung + Streich-Quartett verzaubern lassen kann. Selbst wenn die als schwierig geltende Frontfrau, welche ja leider schon seit 7 Jahren nicht mehr unter uns weilt, damals etwas mürrisch drauf war, hatte gerade diese melancholische Distanziertheit an diesem Abend 1995 im Howard Gilman Opera House in New York seinen besonderen Reiz. Die Titel-Set-Liste setzte sich dabei aus 5 Songs von dem seiner Zeit aktuellen Albums „No Need To Argue“, ihrem ersten Hit „Linger“ vom Debüt-Album, so wie zwei neuen Songs vom dem seiner Zeit noch nicht erschienenen Werk „To The Faithful Departed“ zusammen. Eine absolute Rarität und auch ein Grund für den besonderen Stellenwert dieser Unpluggend-Session bei den CRANBERRIES-Fans war dann noch der Song „Yesterday’s Gone“, welcher eigens für diesen Auftritt komponiert und dort nur einmalig aufgeführt wurde. Ansonsten bot sich ein Großteil des Repertoire der Iren stilistisch gesehen absolut für dieses akustisch reduzierte Format an, jedoch überrascht es schon, wie gut auch das rumpelig-kreischende „Zombie“ in dieser Form funktioniert! 30 Jahre später hat man nun wieder die Möglichkeit, in eine Sternstunde der MTV Unpluggend-Reihe einzutauchen und sich von der natürlichen Charme dieser außergewöhnlichen Band verzaubern zu lassen, welche heute noch so schmerzlich fehlt! Abgesehen davon lässt diese späte Veröffentlichung der Session hoffen, das vielleicht auch noch der Auftritt von THE CURE in irgendeiner Form zugänglich gemacht wird. (Marco Fiebag)

Simone “Hellvis” Salvatori, guitarist, singer and frontman/founder of the neofolk act Spiritual Front, but also a solo artist, was kind enough to answer our questions, here at the ElectoWelt OnLine Music Magazine, just before the band takes the stage at the mighty Death Disco Open Air Festival 2025 in Athens Technopolis!

1. EW: Hello Simone! Thank you so much for finding the time to do our interview, just before Spiritual Front’s live performance at Death Disco open air festival at Technopolis Athens! Apart from the upcoming SF gigs scheduled, how do we find you these days?

Simone Salvatori: Ciao, thank you so much! Well, busy time doing new stuff, working as daily jobs, waiting for Morgue Ensemble and The Lust Syndicate to be released. Life is basicallyba long tragic wait.

2. EW: George P. and me have been following your music with love and admiration many years now, since SPIRITUAL FRONT’s beginnings in 1999 when your first album “Songs for the Will” was released. I wouldn’t categorize SF in the neofolk genre, I never thought of you like this, but SF’s dark lyrical landscapes and romantic tango ballads staying at the same time true to your Italian heritage are very defining qualities for SF music legacy. So, what about Suicidal nihilistic pop, a term under which you have described your music in the past, does it still express Spiritual Front’s music and art? I could probably understand nihilistic, but I am not sure about the suicidal part.

Simone Salvatori: You got the point, I never considered SF as a ‘neofolk’ bands, I mean if you intend that boring bands exposing runes,singing about frozen forests and all these things, not my cup of tea. If you intend a different form of folk, maybe yes, but it’ s a question of terms. About sounds, in the very beginning I was influenced by some of those bands, I mean the early scene, but not now, it’ s so boring to listen to them now. But, as said, it was long time ago, thank god. When I use the worde suicide pop, it s because I like the contrast between these two, suicide is the total, definitive refusal, the last act of denial, pop is something easy, something to share , something that belong to everyone. I lile to idea of keeping them both in my music.

3. EW: Pier Paolo Pasolini, Fassbender influences in your lyrics, and generally you have a cinematic approach regarding your artistic expression, you are telling stories when you sing, in your wonderful videos for SF tracks and when you perform. We can see a lot of talent here, did you ever consider an actor’s or director’s career and turned it down for some reason? Please share!

Simone Salvatori: That would be amazing ahahahh, well, I attended theater schools when I was younger. I always consider these form of arts a whole thing,or a sort of that. It’ s hard to consider cinema without a good soundtrack, ot’ s hard to look at something without imaging a sound, listen to some good record without imaging something happen, things appearing. Yes, those directors influenced me a lot, on a personal and artistic level. Life couldnt be the same without them, those were people who showed us how to see and feel life, those were born to teach us how to make it.

4. EW: We have seen religious themes too, some have even called them provocative or misunderstood your work in this matter. What is your stand regarding religion and inner and is your intention to provoke in an effort to maybe bring the attention of audiences in specific matters that are important to you?

Simone Salvatori: Religion played an important role in my life, I grew in a nuns school when I was kid, some images, some sounds, some odors, some punishments are still so deeply rooted in me. Religion is basically more than a belief, especially if you live in a place like Rome, it s a matter that requests more than a phrase, religion is part of our culture, even if you are not religious, it’ s a thing that have modified and created your own culture and way of living, your philosophy. I don’ t consider myself catholic at all, but I would lie if I would tell you ‘it’ s not my culture’, we are drowned in jesus.

5. EW: What kind of music do you prefer listening to nowadays? is there any kind of guilty pleasures that you might have in music and would like to share with us?

Simone Salvatori: Except hip hop, I basically listen to a lot of things, from new wave to thrash metal, from americana to industrial, from krautrock to ebm, from powernoise to indie pop.

Guilty pleasure? Mmmm , these days Im listening a lot of Chappell Roan.

6. EW: George P. has another question for you! Could you please name your top 5 albums you can’t live without?

Simone Salvatori: Hard questions maybe, not in order:

The Smiths: Hateful of Hollow”
Swans: ”White Light from the Mouth of Infinity”
Celtic Frost: ”Into the Pandemonium”
Scott Walker: ..(Hard to choose among the first 4…) …let’s say the album: ”Scott 3”
Death: ”Leprosy”

7. EW: SF’s homage to a legendary 80s band like the Smiths with Big mouth strikes again was incredible and we can see it was carried out with respect and love to the band and the legends they are. Did you have the chance during your artistic approach and creation road of this album to get in touch with Morrissey or Johnny Marr from the band for the project or have any kind of feedback about your work on this album?

Simone Salvatori: Oh no never, never try to get in touch with your fav artists. Morrissey lived in Rome for a long time, I had the chance to meet him, but I always refused, didn t have the courage to meet him, try to imagine this: for you, he’ s a something special, for him….u just another boring fan,). 

Except some rare cases, I ve always been disappointed by the artists I liked, probably, as said before, is just a matter of expectations.

8. EW: It’s quite impressive that SF contributed to the soundtracks of the TV series “Las Vegas” and the motion picture “Saw 2” as well as further independent films, theatre, and even modern ballet productions, some trivia that some fans maybe are not aware about SF. Are there any additional artistic desires you would like to pursue and fulfil further? Personally, or with SF.

Simone Salvatori: I’d love to do a soundtrack for a western movie.

9. EW: It seems that in the last years minimal synth wave has become a huge music trend again, and creation of music mainly in a digital way though PCs or even smart phones nowadays. What is your opinion of the dark wave scene currently, do you find any of these new musical releases interesting?

Simone Salvatori: It sucks, everytime I hear bands like Lebanon hanover I wonder how music could be so shitty . This trend gave the chance to many incompetents with no talents to play music and records, I mean, it could be ok, I’ m not Malmsteen, but those, c’ mon, it’ s crap, few bands are ok, but 80% are total crap. They should thank god hype is on their side, but dunno how long it will lasts, people are not stupid, they will soon realize what kind of swindle these bands, tons of reverb and flanger and cheap drum machine won’ t save them from the final conflict

10. EW: A few words please for LUST SYNDICATE, your side project, expressing yourself in more old school industrial paths. Is it still active, would you consider presenting this work live to an audience? It would be a worthy addition to Wave Gotik Treffen’s (WGT) roster for instance.

Simone Salvatori: The new album is frozen since 3 years, I had some issues with a couple of label, at the moment is ready to be released by Time to kill records next year. We played at some festivals after the first album, Wgt included. Let’ s see what the 2026 will bring. The new albun ‘we are your enemy’ is very cool, good songs, very catchy but politically exposed. You will like it!

11. EW: Amphi 2025 recent live SF headliner gig was awesome! We kept discussing how much we missed you guys live! You were fantastic on stage, your communication with your fans was intense too. What should we expect seeing you live at Death Disco Open Air on Sunday? New tracks or more classic SF setlist?

Simone Salvatori: Thank you!! Amphi has never been easy for us, there’s always some problem, but we had fun, I love our loyal fanbase. No new tracks this time, we are still working on ’em. But if you invite us to play again on 2026 we ll give you some new killer tracks

12. EW: We know SF will continue touring, you have some scheduled live gigs. Your last album Amour Braque’, was released in 2018 and it was incredibly melodic, dramatic and stimulating, very much in the SPIRITUAL FRONT atmosphere we love. Will there be also new SF music or even a new collaboration coming soon?

Simone Salvatori: We are going to record the new album on late october, we have many new songs,Prophecy records is going to release also a special limited edition double album, let s see who will be the extra guests, at the moment we are just focused on how to make it good! There many intense, lovely songs, Im pretty sure you ll liked it, especially if you loved Amour braque.

EW: Coming to the end of our interview, feel free to share with us any message you would like to, with your fans attending the Death Disco Open Air Festival 2025!

Simone Salvatori: Thank you so much for supporting us, we love Greece, and we always had a special relations with our greek supporters. It’ s always a pleasure to come back in Athens, I ve many good records about it. The last confused memory ended with me totally drunk dancing in a italodisco club. Lovely night!

Στις 11 Οκτωβρίου 2025 το θρυλικό βρετανικό gothic rock συγκρότημα The Nosferatu επιστρέφει στην Αθήνα, μετά από μια εξαιρετικά επιτυχημένη λατινοαμερικανική περιοδεία, κατά την οποία επισκέφθηκε το Μεξικό, την Κόστα Ρίκα, το Περού, τη Χιλή και τη Βραζιλία και πρόκειται να εμφανιστεί στο Amphi Festival και το Wave Gothic Treffen Festival το 2025.
 
Οι The Nosferatu είναι ένα βρετανικό γοτθικό ροκ συγκρότημα που επιδίδεται σε ξεσηκωτικούς ροκ ύμνους, με βαριές κιθάρες και περίτεχνες ενορχηστρώσεις, σε συνδυασμό με τα χαρακτηριστικά βαρύτονα φωνητικά του είδους.
Οι The Nosferatu σχηματίστηκαν από τις στάχτες της αρχικής εποχής Rise των Nosferatu, ενός συγκροτήματος που σχηματίστηκε το 1987. Το συγκρότημα κατέχει μια θρυλική θέση στη gothic rock σκηνή και είναι διάσημο για την κινηματογραφική του προσέγγιση σε κομμάτια όπως τα “Rise”, “Dark Angel” και “Alone”.

In 2001, THANATEROS released their debut album, “The First Rite” – a work about magic, the worship of nature, old gods and shamanism. Even though this theme has always accompanied the five dark rockers, THANATEROS’ new work, “Tranceforming”, is a more impressive continuation of their first album than ever before. As if there were less than 23 years between the two releases.

The title “Tranceforming” is fitting. A play on words that, on the one hand, stands for bringing about a shamanic trance in which the practitioner goes on a dream journey, leaves his body and gets in touch with the spirit world. And, on the other hand, it includes transition, change, transformation. Aspects to which everything and everyone is subjected to, on both the small and large scales.

Since "Tranceforming" also impresses with a powerful, balanced and harmonious production, the new THANATEROS work certainly represents a milestone in the band's long-standing work and should also provide a lot of joy live on stage.

After a long time there is new music from the Netherlands in the form of the video single "Don't Pray".

The lyrics of this track are a powerful commentary on the hypocrisy and emptiness of religious institutions and the people who lead them. The band's use of strong imagery and striking metaphors paints a vivid picture of their message, making it impossible to ignore.

The lyrics are delivered with a raw and emotional intensity that perfectly captures the frustration and disillusionment of the song's subject, encapsulating the band's disdain for the phoniness and insincerity of those in power. The backing vocals by Yvette Winkler (singer with Dark Wave band ‘Vaselyne’) perfectly complement Frank Weyzig’s voice, creating a harmonious blend that captures the emotions of the lyrics.

Linguistic wit + word acrobatics, paired with electronic club sounds - sometimes hard, sometimes soft!

Originally as a solo project by Luke J.B. Rafka brought to life in 2010 for the public, it has now grown into a grandiose 2-man project. While Luke puts world events into words without inhibition V-nerV has been providing the electronic background since 2016. electronic background in the form of his compositions.

The first single "Spiegel der Gesellschaft" will be released on February 24th with the original song, a club edit and remixes by Relate, Superikone, ANTIAGE, Das(X)Periment and U.M. Fiedel and the first partby the song "Ein Gespräch zwischen Sonne & Erde". Parallel to the single, a video will be released which was created by Maik E. Baptist.

We are happy to announce the release of WINTER's new studio album "Looking Further Back" in cooperation with Wintergothic Records in April 2023.

This time, "Looking Further Back" presents newly mixed highlights from earlier times as well, but not exclusively. In fact, only six of the eleven titles are previously released material. Five songs are brand new and as of yet unreleased. (There are even six new tracks on the CD, the CD bonus track is already a foretaste of the new album “Heroes”, which will be released in autumn).

WINTER stays true to his course with "Looking Further Back". And that means that he basically doesn't have a rigorous line here either. Again, he moves within his self-defined framework, somewhere between AOR rock, hard rock, pop, wave and gothic. As always with a proper 80s touch and a feeling for catchy choruses that get stuck in the listener's ear.

The album will be released on CD (with a bonus track), as well as digitally and on strictly limited (300 copies) Black Dust splatter vinyl.

April has it all. Once again the Beckum-based HEMESATH are going on TOUR with the NDH actors from MAERZFELD and will be standing their ground in Cologne from April 8th on the mostly German stages. As in spring 2022, HEMESATH will heat up the audience with the songs from the second studio album "So Schön" and thus pass on the audience at the individual stations to the headliners of MAERZFELD at least at operating temperature.

HEMESATH warm up before the start of the TOUR and will be supported by their colleagues PROTZ on two concert evenings in March (10.03. and 11.03.).
