Mit “Bearer of Light, Matriarch of Death” wird am 22. November 2024 via Dark Descent Records die neue EP der australischen Death Metal-Band GOLGOTHAN REMAINS erscheinen.

“Es ist eine verschlungene und böse Liebesgeschichte über zwei jahrhundertealte Kreaturen, die versuchen, Gesellschaft zu finden, aber aufgrund ihres starken bösen Geistes nicht in der Lage sind, mit einer anderen mächtigen Figur an ihrer Seite zu existieren“, fasst Sänger Matthieu Van den Brande zusammen.

“Bearer of Light, Matriarch of Death” wurde von Greg Chandler in den Priory Recording Studios produziert und mit einem Cover-Artwork von Christian Kiesling ausgestattet. Vorab gibt es den Track “Andromeda” zu hören.

Die Power / Thrash Metal-Band AMONG THESE ASHES hat mit “The Enemy in I” einen dritten Track ihres kommenden Albums “Embers of Elysium” veröffentlicht. Es ist nach “Dominion Enthroned” (2022) das zweite Album der US-Amerikaner aus Detroit und wird am 6. Dezember 2024 via Alone Records erscheinen. Das Album wurde von Matt Roach gemixt und gemastert und mit einem Cover-Artwork von Jayson Cessna ausgestattet.

Modern life thrums with contradictions—technology binds us yet leaves us lonelier, cities hum with opportunity yet stifle the spirit. We race toward progress, but our souls lag behind, heavy with unspoken burdens. The noise of existence, endless and inescapable, fractures our thoughts and frays our peace. We live among bright screens and dim connections, craving meaning yet drowning in shallow distractions. Our collective mind trembles under the weight of pressures we scarcely understand, our anxieties swelling like tides, pulling at our foundations. The world feels more crowded yet emptier, our hearts restless and raw, yearning for solace that remains out of reach.

For nearly a decade, Greek musicians Thodoris Koutsogiannis and Alexios Othon Theodoridis—known as Boxes of Blow—have carved out their own space, shaping a sound that resonates with raw, minimalist intensity. After years of experimentation and shifting lineups, they’ve settled into a sound both atmospheric and piercing, a post-punk blend laced with potent lyricism that digs into the marrow of human struggle.

Now Boxes of Blow release their single, Psychopath, with a striking video to match. The track is a taste of their upcoming album, Human Cries, a stark journey through coldwave and darkwave, echoing humanity’s internal and collective battles. Set for release on November 15 under Wave Records, Human Cries pulls from influences like Clan of Xymox, 1919, Basic Elements, and Killing Joke, striking a chord with anyone contending with the relentless pressures and perplexities of modern existence.

“With this album, we wanted to encapsulate the feelings of anxiety and hopelessness that many experience today,” says the band. “We believe music has the power to provoke thought and evoke emotion, and we hope to spark conversations around the current state of humanity and the potential fall we face.”

Ganz lange ist es her, als PYRACANDA ihr bislang letztes Album veröffentlicht hatten: 1992 erschien “Thorns”, das zweite Album der Deutschen aus Koblenz. Mehr als 30 Jahre später meldet sich die Band nun wieder mit einem neuen Album zurück: “Losing Faith”. Ja, und es ist ein bisschen wie ein Zeitsprung zurück in die Vergangenheit. Das äußert sich zum einen im warmen und nicht überproduzierten Sound und zum anderen an den Tracks, die sich stilistisch stark an den (US-amerikanischen) Thrash Metal der 80er und 90er-Jahre anlehnen. So kokettiert der Opener “Don‘t Wait For” mit METALLICA, “Mouth Warrior” ist ganz nahe an MEGADETH dran und auch ANTHRAX ist dann und wann etwas herauszuhören (“History Twister”).

“Losing Faith” hat nostalgischen Charme
Kompositorisch ist die Scheibe recht rund umgesetzt und hat diesen nostalgischen Charme, den man immer dann verspürt, wenn man sich beim Lauschen der Musik gleich das eine oder andere Jahrzehnt jünger fühlt. Vom technischen Standpunkt her bleibt “Losing Faith” eher basal. Die Gitarren setzen auf songdienliches Riffing und Soli sind eher die Ausnahme. Dabei sind die wenigen Lead-Spuren wie in “Hold On!” durchaus gefällig. Dafür wissen die akustischen Gitarren-Parts recht gut zu gefallen (u.a. in “Misanthrope”, wo dann auch der ANDREW W.K.-“Babalon”-Riff herauszuhören ist). Auch der Gesang kann als songdienlich gelten, während die Gang-Shouts für meinen Geschmack etwas zu oft zum Einsatz gebracht werden. Dennoch bieten PYRACANDA einen netten Querschnitt des Thrash Metals aus vergangenen Tagen, der trotz oder vielleicht auch wegen der Zeitkapsel, in der sich die Band gefühlt eingeschlossen hatte, frisch klingt.

In the cold sprawl of our world today, souls drift like scattered leaves, aimless and unanchored, rustling but rarely meeting. Cities thrum with commerce, ambition, and an unending urgency, yet beneath the bright lights lies a deep chasm of disconnect and detachment. People pass each other with guarded glances, hearts hardened against the relentless ache of isolation. The promise of true togetherness shimmers like a distant dream, a whispered hope swallowed by the city’s ceaseless clamour.

We yearn for warmth, for the comfort of connection to pierce the chill, yet our days are filled with solitary routines, wrapped in quiet. Human bonds, once as simple and essential as breath, have become scarce treasures, crushed under the weight of a world that prizes profit over people. We crave shared smiles, an understanding touch, but in this landscape of crowded loneliness, we remain apart—yearning, searching, silently suffering.

The beautifully hypnotic, anthemic Torch Song from Germany’s The Shallow Graves captures a struggle with overwhelming tragedy and relentless anxiety, paired with a deep yearning for love and genuine connection. It explores the push-and-pull between fear and the hope for something uplifting. One seeks a spark of inspiration or support, longing for someone to elevate them above the weight of their emotional turmoil and bring clarity.

“The video clip is a collage of cinematic impressions that express the longing for togetherness in the harsh world of isolation, loneliness and estrangement in modern capitalist metropolis,” says the Kassel-based band.

Stained glass windows shimmer with fractured light, dancers move with grace under dimmed skies, and highways stretch endlessly into the night, their asphalt veins glistening under the glow of streetlamps. The band sings with closed eyes, lost in a world of their own making, where feeling reigns over sight. German Expressionist cinema flickers in shadows and sharp lines, an echo of raw emotion and stark contrasts. Together, these images merge into a vivid short film—an evocative mosaic of human highs and lows. What else can one utter about a band named Dead. that their moniker doesn’t proclaim outright? These French purveyors of sonic chaos summon an aura drenched in darkness before a single sound spills forth. Yet, when their music strikes, it conjures an even more formidable force—a wild, rhythmic reckoning. If Dead aren’t already plotting the planet’s collapse, they’ve surely composed its grim anthem. Stark, unyielding, yet wielding grooves so deep they pulse with command.

After four long years since their latest EP, Dead. reemerges with Paradise, their new album steeped in coldwave, laced with electronic pulses, and layered with shoegaze echoes. Influences ripple through, from The Soft Moon’s brooding beats to A Place To Bury Strangers’ sonic storms, and the poetic cadence of Anne Clark. It’s hypnotic, enigmatic, unearthly—a storm murmuring beneath a steady, quietly menacing heartbeat.

Angels, with its shuddering alt-rock guitar tones, trembles on the tightrope between faith and yearning, grappling with a longing for proof of something unseen, something felt but never found. The hope of a brush with the divine haunts the edges, always teasing, never tangible, a dance of doubt wrapped in the promise of the unreachable.

Edena is an industrial lament, mourning a lost sanctuary, echoing with the ache of an old heart, heavy and desperate for Eden’s embrace. The night stretches endless and cold, the pulse slow and tired, craving warmth and peace that remain a dream, a distant and unyielding vision. It’s hypnotic, enigmatic, strange yet simmering with a quiet, biting insistence.

What, with its baroque cinematic elegance, muses on the grind of time, piling trials and unanswered questions, lamenting the weight of missed moments and warnings disregarded. The weariness of existence seeps through, a resigned nod to chances squandered. The guitar work on this track is classic gothic rock, slicing the cold atmosphere of the song with icy elegance.

Bliss unfolds like a reverie, pulsating and swirling with dark electronic rhythms—at times sparse, reminiscent of traversing a slender bridge laid with industrial shoegaze, stretching over an expansive landscape of resonant guitars. It evokes a memory rich with unbounded joy and seamless unity—lovers entwined, dreams intact, the world basking in a pristine tranquility. The portrait is radiant, untouched by shadows, yet a haunting sense of finality lingers, as if this beauty was always fated to fade, inevitably overshadowed by the reality of endings.

Opening with synth pulses reminiscent of the effervescent beats of Kraftwerk, We Were emerges from a haze of ethereal tones, leading into piercing guitar wails that slice through the air. Die Death Metal-Band SCYTHROW hat einen Labeldeal bei Awakening Records unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen werden die Finnen ihr neues Album “Blameless Severed Extremities” veröffentlichen. Es ist nach “Paragon of Pain” (2021) und “Scorched Earth” (2023) das dritte Album der 2020 gegründeten Band aus Lappeenranta.

“Blameless Severed Extremities” wurde von Gitarrist Arttu Muukkonen produziert und wird am 27. November 2024 erscheinen. Nach dem Video-Clip zu “Nerve Rot” gibt es mit “Kinemortophobia” nun die zweite Vorab-Single.

30 Jahre nach Bandgründung veröffentlichen SUIDAKRA ihr 15. Studioalbum:  Am 07. November 2024 erschien “DarkanakraD”. Mit “Unravelling Destinies” gibt es nun einen Video-Clip.

Das Album, dessen Titel übersetzt soviel wie „Armageddon“ bedeutet, beendet die „Realms Of Odoric“-Trilogie, die 2016 mit dem gleichnamigen Album begann.

MOUNTAIN THRONE

MOUNTAIN THRONE sind irgendwo zwischen Doom, Epic, US- und Power Metal unterwegs, und das schon seit 2009. Wo andere Band aus diesem Genre mit einem zweihunderprozentig engagiertem, aber halt auch deutlich im Grenzbereich jodelnden Sängern auskommen müssen (das sind dann gerne mal so genannte „kultige Vocals“) setzten MOUNTAN THRONE quasi auf einen Chor: Neben Sänger Matze (der kann eh was, hat er bereits bei PSYCHOTRON bewiesen) singen hier auch der Drummer und der Bassist, und das gar nicht mal so schlecht.  Die Triple Vocal Attack sitzt, das machten die Schwaben gleich mit dem Opener „All Souls Day“ klar.

Knapp die Hälfte der Setlist stammte vom aktuellen Album „“The Silver Light“, der Rest von älteren Alben wie „Stormcoven“, dessen Cover auch das Backdrop zierte.  Auf der kleinen Bühne fühlt sich das Quartett sichtlich wohl, Sänger Matze lockerte den Auftritt mit dem ein oder anderen kleinen Scherz auf und freute sich mehrfach, dass an diesem Abend doch einige Leute vor der Bühne statt zu Hause auf dem Sofa rumlungerten und sich gar bewegten.  „Death Of A Tyrant“ leitete er mit einer Anti-Trump-Ansage ein, wie sich am nächsten Tag aber rausstellte, verhallte sie leider ungehört. Mit dem schweren, drückenden Song zeigten MOUNTAIN THRONE ihre doomige und vertrackte  Seite, das andere Ende der Variabilitätsskala setzte die Band mit der Zugabe „Totem“, das erstaunlich hardrockig und catchy rüberkommt. Alles in allem ein sehr unterhaltsamer Auftritt einer Band, die in diesem kleinen, feinen Club ganz dicht am Publikum ganz wunderbar aufgehoben ist.

BEWITCHER

Ganz anders präsentierten sich BEWITCHER – die Amis haben auf der kleinen Tour ihr aktuelles Album „Spell Shock“ dabei.  Im Gegensatz zum Support Act verzichten sie auf große Worte und lassen stattdessen die Musik sprechen. Zehn Songs, eine gute Stunde Spielzeit reichen BEWITCHER aus, um das Publikum zufrieden und gut angeschwitzt zurückzulassen. Ohne Ansagen, ohne ausgedruckte Setlist, ohne Punkt und Komma rotzen sie ihre Songs runter – absolut eindrucksvoll, mehr als eine Gitarre, einen Bass, und ein erstaunlich mickriges Drumset braucht die Band an diesem Abend nicht. Das Gesicht ein bisschen mit weißer Farbe grundieren, um die Augen ein bisschen schwarz verreiben – von fein ausgearbeitetem Corpsepaint ist das Trio so weit entfernt wie von 7/8-Takten. Braucht beides auch keiner, denn die räudigen Songs zwischen Speed Metal, Black Metal und einer ganz großen Portion Punk funktionieren live ganz wunderbar.

Sänger Mateo von Bewitcher weiß offenbar ganz genau, dass das so wunderbar funktioniert und er seine Ansagen auf ein Minimum beschränkt. Außer „Hello Stuttgart“ und „This is ‘Satanic Magick Attack’ sagte er er nicht viel. Mit viel Augenrollen und herrlich übertriebenem Posing verwandelten BEWITCHER den Keiler in einen kleinen Hexenkessel, in dem es schon nach kurzer Zeit ordentlich brodelte – denn die Energieübertragung von der Bühne zum Publikum funktionierte widerstandslos, es lag nicht nur dreckige schwarze Magie, sondern auch Spannung in der Luft.

Unbedingt erwähnenswert:  der irre, flackernde Blick von Drummer A. Hunter, der aber harmloser war, als es zunächst schien. Zurückstarren, Beten, unsicher Lächeln oder schnell Weggucken, er ließ sich von keiner Reaktion aus dem Konzept bringen und trommelte weiter. Mit dem MOTÖRHEAD-Cover „We Are The Roadcrew“ zollten BEWITCHER einem ihrer Vorbilder Tribut und verabschiedeten sich nach einem kurzen, intensiven Set in den Feierabend. So kann eine Woche ruhig öfter beginnen.

The Healer, Sydney Valette’s seventh LP, dives headlong into the turbulent waters of toxic love, tracing its sharp edges—from abandonment and addiction to jealousy, despair, passion, and rage. It’s a vivid journey through the psyche of a soul ensnared by turmoil, set against the stark landscapes of Eastern Europe, carrying the whispers of past wars and lingering spectres. The chill of snowy melodies, punctuated by the soft chime of bells, fills the air as an old television flickers with black-and-white scenes, narrating a love story steeped in tragedy and inner conflict.

Valette’s reach spans the darkwave spectrum, fusing the relentless throb of EBM, the quiet chill of ambient textures, the raw edge of synth-punk, and the hypnotic pull of Italo-Disco. Classical undertones blend with goth-wave depths, held together by a razor-sharp pop instinct and a dark flicker of humor. The album opens with the brief instrumental The Confession of Bernard before launching into So Lost, which shimmers with cinematic tension all its own. With resonant vocal laments, the composition unfolds, embodying a delicate tension between urgency and solitude. Cloaked in an icy veneer, it strikes a poised balance while emphasizing striking contrasts. Its rhythmic repetitions carve out a fragile beauty, revealing a flicker of light that struggles to pierce the dense veil of oblivion.

As the pulsations of Pharmakon take hold, Valette dives into the beat, crafting an EBM anthem that pulses with untamed energy. This track epitomizes the spirit of Berlin’s underground—gritty, relentless, and vividly alive amid the rhythm and haze. The vocals exude swagger, building into soaring, anthemic chants that resonate with soaring power.

The title track, “The Healer,“ opens with a soft cascade of distorted sounds that seamlessly flow into intricate baroque 16-bit melodies, laced with slightly medieval beats. It delves into our unrelenting pursuit of salvation and highlights our yearning to mend and find solace through a “cure” that always seems tantalizingly out of reach. In this piece, Valette masterfully captures the paradox of modern humanity’s fixation on salvation. He explores the tensions that lie at the heart of our collective need for healing while simultaneously acknowledging our resistance to change. The vocals unfold like a heartfelt plea for strength and clarity, yearning for comfort and redemption from one who possesses the secrets to transformation. It is a raw and powerful invocation for healing, resilience, and liberation from the weight of emotional and spiritual afflictions.

“La Maman et le Fantôme” resonates with a haunting, chant-like rhythm that captivates the senses. Its bass synths, drenched in the industrial grit of Nitzer Ebb, intertwine with the evocative, gothic sighs of Xymox’s Medusa era. The sultry, Brelian vocal delivery enhances its seductive quality, crafting a dark, driving anthem that unfolds like a mesmerizing ritual in motion.

The Knife slashes through with relentless energy, its rapid-fire beats underscoring distorted, spoken-word fragments over strange, futuristic synth pads, a track both frenetic and fierce. Then comes La Tempête de Neige, an instrumental beauty that drifts through the air like snowflakes catching light. Evoking the timeless synth mastery of Wendy Carlos and Delia Derbyshire, it hums with an ageless, ethereal quality, resonating through the echoes of time.

The Wanderer paints a portrait of an artist settled into his identity, shaded by his favorite color—black. Yet he drifts within its dark depths, occasionally pulling forth vibrant, irresistible rhythms. This track stands as the album’s natural centerpiece, where Valette’s voice emerges clear, a rare moment of vulnerability within his usual post-apocalyptic tales, lending a human heartbeat to the mix. An ethereal chorus swells toward the close, in seamless harmony with the crisp, striking production.

Relax strikes hard and fast, its rapid synths and jittery beats pounding with dark electro energy. Yet The Avenger offers more than mere nods to genre; it walks a fine line between glacial hymns and densely layered synthscapes. Here, Valette’s hallmark elegance and meticulous Midas touch transform the song into something precise and poised.

A Thousand Oceans is another spectacular instrumental – ghostly and strange, like the early ambient experiments of Moby superimposed with sampled sound.

Finally, with L’Ecran Bleu, Valette reaches a new peak of compositional finesse. The French language track builds slowly, like a smoldering ember, spiraling into a crescendo that feels like the album’s defining high. It’s a vortex of dark intensity, where the languid emotion of artists like Jacques Brel or Serge Gainsbourg collides with a spacey, industrial pulse.

Few artists reimagine dark wave and electronic music with such innovation, this masterpiece of an album is something wholly original.

“Zwielicht“, das neueste Album von MENTAL CRUELTY, wurde am 23. Juni 2023 über Century Media Records veröffentlicht. Am 13. Dezember 2024 wird die Platte in einer “Digital Deluxe”-Edition neu veröffentlicht – darauf befindet sich auch eine überarbeitete Fassung des Stücks “Symphony Of A Dying Star”, das von Künstlerin MISSTIQ als Piano-Version arrangiert wurde. Ebenfalls verfügbar ist “Mortal Shell”, dessen orchestrale Version man online anhören kann.

Mit “Midtvinter/Obsessis A Daemonio” hat die Deathcore-Band im Sommer 2023 einen weiteren Song samt Intro daraus veröffentlicht; er folgt auf die Single “Nordlys” sowie den Clip “Forgotten Kings“.

Mit “Finding Euphoria” ist nun eine weiterer Video-Clip erschienen. Vorab steht auch “The Midnight Sun” als Musikvideo bei YouTube bereit. Zum Stück hat Sänger Elijah Witt Folgendes zu sagen:

In The Midnight Sun geht es um viele verschiedene Dinge, aber am wichtigsten ist, dass wir zu dem zurückkehren, was wir wirklich sind. Es war der erste Song, den wir schrieben, als wir uns endlich hinsetzten, um eine LP zu machen, und ich denke, man kann die tiefe Entschlossenheit in unseren Seelen hören, wenn man ihn sich anhört.”

Ein neues Zuhause haben SEVEN KINGDOMS gefunden: Die US-amerikanische Power Metal-Band arbeitet künftig mit Reigning Phoenix Music zusammen. Das erste gemeinsame Unterfangen war der Release der Single “The Square”, zu der man auch ein Video produziert hat. Jetzt legte die Gruppe das Video “Wilted Pieces” nach – es folgt auf den Clip “Through These Waves”.

Das Stück ist der EP “The Square” entnommen, die am 8. November 2024 erschienen ist. Laut Gitarrist Camden Cruz kann man das neue Material im kommenden Jahr live erleben:

Die Melodic Death Metal-Band DYING AWKWARD ANGEL hat mit “The Magical World Of The Dead” eine neue Single veröffentlicht. Es ist der erste neue Release der Italiener aus Turin seit ihrem zweiten Album “Absence of Light” (2018). Der Song verläuft als Dialog zwischen einem Mann und dem Tod und sei eine angespannte und nachdenkliche Konfrontation über die Bedingungen des Vergehens.

Aðalbjörn Tryggvason sagt über die Vorab-Songs:

“‘Hún andar’, was so viel wie ‘Sie atmet’ bedeutet, ist ein Nachruf auf eine lebende Person, die ich sehr liebe. Sie ist aber wegen psychischer Probleme und Drogenmissbrauch nicht mehr bei Verstand.
“Hin Helga Kvöl ist ein Lied über den Tod. Es geht um die Erkenntnis, dass wir eher früher als später sterben, wir sollten uns bewusst sein, dass alles ein Ende haben wird. Der Song becshreibt die persönliche Vorstellung von Ragnarök – oder Armageddon. Doch was passiert danach? Werden wir wiedergeboren oder sind wir nur Futter für die Würmer? “

Die Band hat vor kurzem einen Plattenvertrag bei Century Media unterschrieben, Aðalbjörn Tryggvason hat eine besondere Verbindung zu dem Label:

“Wir sind schon seit langer Zeit Fans. Ich habe die Hälfte meiner Death Metal-Sammlung in den 90er Jahren von ihnen gekauft. Wir haben unsere Karriere auf einem deutschen Label begonnen und jetzt sind wir zurück bei einem – und wir freuen uns auf viele weitere Jahre!”

Im November sind SÓLSTAFIR auf Tour, bei der “Nordic Descent Tour 2024” sind außerdem ORANSSI PAZUZU und HAMFERÐ beziehungsweise HELGA als Support dabei.

Die Southern Metal / Sludge-Band WITCHPIT hat mit Through Eyes Of Apathy” einen Video-Clip ihres neuen Albums “Forever Spoken” veröffentlicht.

“”Through Eyes of Apathy” erforscht das Thema der mutigen Entscheidung, die eigene Vergangenheit, Beziehungen und die vertraute Umgebung aufzugeben. Es fängt den Kampf ein, sich von emotionalen Bindungen zu befreien und den Wunsch nach einem Neuanfang. Die Texte spiegeln die Spannung zwischen Nostalgie und dem Bedürfnis nach Veränderung wider und zelebrieren letztlich den Mut, den es braucht, um einen neuen Weg einzuschlagen”, erklärt die Band.

Es ist nach “The Weight of Death” (2022) das zweite Album der US-Amerikaner aus South Carolina.

“Forever Spoken” sei eine kraftvolle Erkundung des menschlichen Strebens, ein dauerhaftes Vermächtnis zu hinterlassen: Das Album befasst sich mit den Prüfungen, Widrigkeiten und Kämpfen, die unsere Reise prägen und unsere Fähigkeit herausfordern, unser Schicksal zu erfüllen.
