The Japanese art of kintsugi is not about fixing a broken bowl, it’s about realizing the object was never truly broken. The golden seams remind us that our cracks are not flaws, but the very places where the light gets in. Life, too, mends itself in shimmering imperfections. We spend so much time resisting change, clinging to the illusion of wholeness, when in truth we are always being reassembled by time. To live is to be shattered and rejoined, over and over, until we see that the art was never in the porcelain, but in the patient, gleaming act of becoming.

Matthieu Roche, better known as Fragrance., makes music like someone rebuilding their heart with both hands tied. His new record, Kintsugi, is less a collection of songs than an act of repair: gold poured into the cracks of a life too fragile to throw away. You can hear the glue drying in real time: synths sighing, basslines prowling the ruins of yesterday. Each track feels like it was recovered from a dream, dusted off, and allowed to breathe again.

“Kintsugi is about embracing the cracks – learning to live with what’s been broken, and finding strength in the fragile,” Roche says. He’s not waxing poetic; he’s whispering hard-won truth. The album’s pulse is driven by the quiet miracle of existing after the storm. His voice moves like liquid mercury, intimate but untouchable, the kind of tone that makes sadness feel like a shared secret.

Roche’s synths shimmer between cathedral and club, guided by co-producer Sophia Hamadi (S DIAMAH, Opale), who threads each rhythm with restraint. The result is a reflection of someone learning to hold themselves steady.

By the time Gone, Vanished lands, Kintsugi has already built its own quiet cosmos. “The song evokes a state of evanescence,” Roche explains. “There is a tension between presence and absence, as if running away from one’s own emotions, even though these experiences remain deeply internalized, with fear, melancholy, and beauty circulating within to sustain life.” It’s that very tension that animates the album: a dance between absence and attachment.

In Humaura, Los Angeles duo LUCKYANDLOVE step away from the narcotic glow of screens to search for something more elemental: the fragile essence of being human without algorithmic interference. They define the title as “the atmosphere that emanates from the feelings of the human spirit void of technological control.” In that definition lies both the project’s philosophy and its protest.

The album’s pulse is analogue and immediate: Moog textures, warm imperfections, and unvarnished human breath resisting the frictionless sheen of digital uniformity. It is a reminder that music, like democracy, depends on participation, not automation. Recorded with Grammy-winning engineer Be Hussey and mastered for vinyl by Nicholas Townsend, Humaura sounds handmade, not manufactured; a series of deliberate choices rather than a submission to trend.

“This is an action-packed, cinematic, entertaining and soulful electro-dance record full of fresh air and wide-open roads where there is more freedom to party, to be in nature, and to be our wild selves,” says April Love. Her phrasing mirrors the music’s open-ended optimism. She continues: “There was a new quiet that we observed — the pandemic was a weird experience. We tried to make the best of it, making art, taking nature trips, and photographing this microscopic world we discovered. We worked on ourselves, strengthened our relationship, and weaved everything into our music.”

That sense of self-repair runs through the record’s architecture. Humaura feels less like a collection of songs than a process of recovery, each track a deliberate act of mending the fracture between mind and machine. I Am Human, which channels Goldfrapp, examines the paralysis of becoming a “screen zombie,” where identity is flattened into data and presence reduced to performance, then seeks a path back to tactile life…to the grain of a voice, the pressure of air, the sensation of real contact.

Across these moments, LUCKYANDLOVE rebuild the link between emotional labor and artistic creation. Their use of analogue instruments and unfiltered vocals reinforces the theme: imperfection becomes integrity, and connection requires friction. Where much contemporary music mirrors the algorithmic loop of scrolling, Humaura insists on the slow pulse of reflection, reminding listeners that repair is not achieved through convenience, but through care.

Feelz So Good and Run On Run ignite that recovery with motion: escape as philosophy, momentum as medicine. Both tracks pulse with propulsion, the rhythm of wheels on an open highway and the wind-cut exhilaration of choosing one’s own direction. The duo transforms movement into metaphor. There’s a sense of freedom born from velocity, where repetition becomes ritual, and every synth line feels like a step further from confinement. These are songs that treat motion itself as renewal, a reassertion of human agency in a world built to keep us still.

Lonely At Night carries the ache of isolation into something restorative, suggesting that loneliness, when acknowledged rather than avoided, can be transformed into communion. Its tempo is slower, but its heart beats steadily, pulsing with empathy rather than despair. The song doesn’t resolve solitude by denying it; it listens to it, learns from it.

Down To Black is a great synthpop song with strange spacey synths, the vocals bringing to mind a hybrid of Madeline Goldstein and Primitive Heart. Secret Is Out releases long-buried truths with the urgency of confession, but without spectacle; it feels like an unmasking of the self before the self — a quiet act of liberation that trades artifice for authenticity.

Hawks Do Cry channels the operatic reach of Goldstein, Austra, and SRSQ, lifting its melody skyward with gorgeous, soaring vocals and minimalist synths that shimmer just at the edge of restraint before settling into a gentle backbeat. It’s a moment of calm elevation, a reminder that stillness and grace can coexist within the same breath as rebellion.

Melt In Sunshine follows as a fitting coda; an ethereal closer that bathes the listener in light. Its lilting rhythm and soft percussive undertow evoke the radiant edge of a Siouxsie track, guiding the record toward resolution rather than retreat. Melt In Sunshine is a modest proposal that humanity’s next revolution might begin not in data, but in daylight.

“We spent hundreds of hours performing in total isolation – our DTLA rehearsal space, our Echo Park space – and continuing the creative process outside, along the LA river, writing a lot of songs while listening to birds,” recalls Loren Luck. “By truly going ‘underground’ during the making of this album, we were taking back our lives — just by figuring out what it meant being human, in its purest form. Once you make peace with that, your thinking becomes free, so now we’re free to make the rules.”

In the long arc of industrial and electronic music, few returns feel as deliberate as Coincidental Strategies, the latest release from Baltimore’s Pygmy Children. After more than two decades of silence, brothers Brian and Pete Roper re-enter a transformed cultural landscape. Theirs is a music built on tension between technological precision and human volatility: a dialectic once central to the industrial movement’s critique of modernity. Here, that argument is revived with renewed urgency.

Signal Unknown, out now via Re:Mission Entertainment, serves as both a warning and a welcome. The track and its four remixes—from Interface, Fermion, George Hagegeorge, and Deekay—function as a series of controlled experiments. Each version alters the equilibrium of sound and structure: club rigour yielding to cinematic unease, mechanical pulse dissolving into digital corrosion. What remains constant is the clarity of intention. This is an analysis of the machine age’s afterlife.

The accompanying video feels like a transmission intercepted from the outer edges of consciousness—a coded broadcast steeped in the spectral logic of William Gibson’s Sprawl Trilogy. In Gibson’s world, an alien signal whispers through cyberspace, neither divine nor mechanical, yet unmistakably alive. Signal Unknown channels that same eerie pulse: a hallucinatory blend of live performance and digital vision where humanity and circuitry converge. The Ropers appear amid a storm of rotating neural grids and data clouds, their silhouettes dissolving into constellations of electric light. A human brain rotates like a celestial object, framed by interstellar dust and the warped curvature of space, suggesting consciousness itself as the final frontier of the machine’s dream.

The result feels like glimpsing the Aleph through the static—a total vision refracted through analog grain and glitch. Streets blur into astral pathways, and signals bend into feedback loops as the performance becomes inseparable from the transmission itself. It’s cyberpunk rendered devotional: a hymn to perception, decay, and the electricity between flesh and code.

Across Coincidental Strategies, Pygmy Children extend a lineage that once connected acts such as Front 242, Front Line Assembly, and Skinny Puppy, contemporaries who framed sound as social commentary. Yet the brothers’ return feels less archival than diagnostic. Their compositions resemble coded reports from a world where information itself has replaced ideology. The production is taut, its textures arranged with academic precision yet never stripped of emotion.

The album, available digitally and on limited CD, stands as their first physical release since Low Life Dream (1998). In that span, the global economy digitized, surveillance became ambient, and data replaced desire as the organizing principle of modern life. Against this backdrop, Pygmy Children’s reappearance carries an implicit critique: that the machinery of culture may evolve, but its control systems remain intact.

In this sense, Coincidental Strategies reads like both cultural autopsy and act of resistance. The signal, as they say, is stronger than ever.

It is wickedly romantic, trying to freeze time before the light breaks through. T.O.Y.’s Night & Day, from his upcoming album The Prophet, feels like a love letter written on the edge of dawn, when sleep still clings to your skin and reality hasn’t yet come knocking. The synths rise like fog over an empty street; the drums, clipped and clean, pulse with the same electricity that once ran through a smoky Berlin nightclub. It’s both ghost and groove, caught in the tension between staying lost and being found.

The song bleeds that tender Romeo and Juliet ache, the kind of doomed devotion that can’t bear the glare of morning. “Night’s not over, it’s not another day,” the voice insists, and you believe him. The voice coaxes, drawing you closer, like a confession whispered under a dying strobe. There’s a low hum of heartbreak buried beneath the machines, but instead of despair, it’s an embrace before goodbye.

“During the pandemic, wrapped in isolation, we all needed consistency, a sense of comfort, and security,” he recalls. “I found that feeling through…the sounds I have known my whole life: the music of the 80s.” And that’s what makes this track hum with life.

The man ditched the plugins, traded pixels for circuits, and went back to the sacred relics: the LinnDrum, Prophet 5, Roland VP330, each a relic of warmth and imperfection. “It was a time-consuming, costly, yet beautiful process,” he says. You can hear the care in every note.

The groove is lean, the melodies glide, and then, without fanfare, the whole thing ascends into a gauzy instrumental outro that could’ve underscored Crockett and Tubbs cruising through the Miami dusk. “The Prophet is passion, history, a vintage museum,” he says, and it’s true, as if he’s resurrected the ghosts of synths past, letting them breathe again, sing again, ache again.

He found allies too: Alphaville’s Marian Gold, that eternal dreamer of forever young hearts, and Faithless’s Jonathan White, whose bass rolls like thunder under fluorescent skies. Together, they built something that gleams with sincerity and heart. Night & Day is about communion through nostalgia. Between man and machine, night and light, memory and moment. It’s that last dance before sunrise when you swear the night might never end.

Das siebte Album der Osnabrücker Dark Rocker MYSTIGMA um das Brüderpaar Torsten Bäumer (Gesang/Texte) und Jörg Bäumer (Gitarre, Keybords & Programming) entführt den Hörer in eine dystopische Welt, deren Landschaft aus zersetzter Moral, taumelnder Tänze fremder Ichs, durchwoben von leisem Widerstand und der letzten Hoffnung aus dem Rauschen eines Radiosenders besteht. Fast auf den Tag genau 4 Jahre nach dem großartigen Werk „Gebete“ kredenzt uns die Band erneut ein tief durchdachtes, phantastisches Album voller eindringlicher, düsterer Klangwelten und tiefsinnig-verstörender Texte.

Von Beginn an gelingt es, den Hörer an sich zu binden, ihn im Dickicht der Klänge einen betörenden Spannungsbogen an die Hand zu geben. „Fremdes Ich“ variiert zwischen erzählerischen Strophen und durchdringenden Refrain. Geschickt lässt man die Gitarren staubtrocken im Rhythmus mit den Drums schlagen. Für die sphärische Note im harten Intermezzo sorgen Keys und sanftmütige, latent Trauer tragende Backings. „Willkommen in diesem Labyrinth, in dem ich allein der Meister bin“.

Es folgt die aktuelle Singleauskopplung „In Memoriam“. Ein in Trauer badendes, leicht doomiges Kleinod. Das Requiem wird im Refrain durch verführerische, weibliche und leicht Choral-ähnliche Eleganz verfeinert. Wahrscheinlich das düsterste Stück des Werkes, welches mich ein wenig (auch wegen der Schwermut) an „Wenn Gewalt die Stille bricht“ vom letzten Album erinnert.

Einer meiner Lieblingssongs des neuen Werkes ist „erfroren“. Erst scheint man etwas monoton der verwegenen Melodie zu folgen, bevor Stockschwingereien (erneut perfekte Arbeit von Malte Hagedorn) eine wundervolle Hookline einleiten, die irgendwo zwischen OOMPH!, SECRET DISCOVERY oder EISBRECHER ein zu Hause findet. Ein dramatisches Zwischenspiel entführt klagend in die straighte Harmonie und lässt den Song mit durchdringender Energie ausklingen. Fast ein wenig plötzlich schmerzt die Stille.

Trotz leicht destruktiver Energie geht „Gegengift“ etwas ruhiger zu Werke, während der Titelsong von schleppender Eleganz bestimmt wird. Eher dezent, dennoch verziert mit leichter elektronischer Verspieltheit schleicht der Song voran. Nicht nur hier merkt man deutlich, dass sich der Gesang in Sinne von Klang und Ausdruck in den letzten Jahren immer weiter entwickelt hat. Es gelingt auch mal, die Rauheit der Stimmbänder zu einem aggressiven Manöver zu bewegen. Auch die verzerrten mit verschachtelter Musik unterlegten Stimmbandakrobatiken sind gelungen und geschickt in den Songs untergebracht.

Ein elektronischer Teppich und leichtgängige Melodie bestimmt das von der Härte her etwas gedrückte „Sündikat“. Die Hook besitzt dann wieder diese staubigen Saiten und auch die nötige Wucht. Erneut lässt man verschmitzte Zwischenspiele durch den Verzerrer laufen, während im Gesamtbild der Text (samt Wortspiel) in den Mittelpunkt stellt. Bevor hart die Saiten in die Szenerie dringen, besitzt „Triumph in Schwarz“ einen kleinen orientalischen Fixpunkt. Der Song variert zwischen Härte und Melancholie und besitzt eine mystische Note. Auch „Midsommar“ besitzt diesen innewohnenden Charakter, der sich zwischen Schwermut und Energie ein kleines Baumhaus eingerichtet hat. Wild und ungezügelt folgt „Daimonion“. Kompromisslose Energie als wütende Unterlage, während der Gesang zwischen Verzweiflung und Wut einen Mittelweg zu finden scheint. Und am Schluss trägt man alles harmonisch „Zu Grabe“. Ein wunderschönes Lied, beginnend mit Samples und folgend mit Harmonie. Langsam entwickelt und verführerisch düster, scheint hier doch eher eine Metapher zu Grabe getragen werden. Natürlich kann ich mich irren, aber sollte etwas Reales dahinterstehen, werden meine Tränen den schwarzglänzenden Moloch dieses ewiglich begleiten.

Fazit: MYSTIGMA liefern einen würdigen Nachfolger von „Gebete“. Allerdings fällt er etwas straighter aus. Die Gitarren rücken mehr in den Vordergrund. Die verführerische Melancholie des Vorgängers agiert diesmal etwas versteckter. Auch die klagende, Trauer tragende Atmosphäre ist eher in den tiefsinnig-verschrobenen Texten zuhause. Wobei ich auch sagen muss, nach ungefähr der Hälfte hat es diese Facette des Trauerflors, der über und unter den Songs gelegt einen Trübsinn integriert, der leichtgängig der schwarzen Galle nähert. MYSTIGMA gelingt es, nicht immer einfach zu konsumierende Facetten in einen Anzug zu kleiden, den man sich gerne anzieht, mit dem man sogar manchmal angeben könnte. Es ist ein Anzug den man zur Geburt ebenso tragen kann, wie zu einer Beerdigung. Ich hab es oft gesagt, es stimmt aber auch so oft. Dieses Album braucht Zeit, der Hörer braucht Zeit. Alles das, was wir heute nicht haben, wirklich? (andreas)

Two days filled with energy, socialising, getting to know new people, and simply having fun in an absolutely welcoming, warm atmosphere - it’s definitely something worth experiencing.

Richtig: Freund und Kollege Lunn von PANOPTICON hat sich hier natürlich kein zweites Mal bitten lassen und sein perkussionistisches Genie ausgepackt, um „The Splintered Oar“, das Debüt von WEFT (englisch für „Einschuss“) den nötigen Punch zu verleihen. Das allein hätte gereicht, damit ich es mir anhöre, denn egal wie einfallslos und generisch die Kompositionen auch sein könnten, Lunns Trommelei ist stets so variabel und aberwitzig, dass ich es unter Tausenden erkennen würde und immer genießen kann.

So auch hier, aber einfallslos und generisch ist hier gar nichts. Anderson scheint großer OPETH-Fan zu sein, was man nicht nur an seinen Death-Metal-Vocals hört, die wirklich sehr an Mikael Akerfeldt zu „My Arms, Your Hearse“-Zeiten erinnern, auch die Kompositionen orientieren sich durchaus an frühen OPETH (inklusive dezenten 70s-Prog-Rock-Einflüssen) – fügen diesem Fundament jedoch noch eine gehörige Portion Atmo-Black-Metal (ich denke z.B. an SAOR) und, ja, Americana-Elementen hinzu.

Letzteres wiederum hat Anderson sich natürlich bei Lunn und seinem PANOPTICON abgeschaut und wirkt: trotz der wilden Mischung nicht aufgesetzt, sondern dem Konzept entsprechend und in sich geschlossen als geradezu logische Konklusion eines Albums, das meditativ beginnt („Leaves“ ist ein reines Akustik-Intro mit übrigens einem phänomenalen Bass), wild und teilweise chaotisch weitergeht („False Kingdoms“/“The Hull“) und schließlich eben verträumt endet („A Dream Of Oaks“).

Unterstützt wird Anderson dabei von Andrea Morgan, die ebenfalls Violine beisteuert, aber auch Gesang, und, beim epischen Abschlusstrack, Jordan Day, dessen melodischer Gesang allein ein Lauscher wert ist: Sein Auftritt wirkt wie ein Sonnenaufgang nach einer ausgesprochen wilden Nacht, und auch wenn Anderson selbst schon in „The Hull“ selbst den Klargesang rausgeholt hat, ist die Wahl dieses auch noch sehr prominent abgemischten Gastsängers sehr zu begrüßen, gelingt es ihm doch, noch eine tiefere Ebene an Gefühl in das Stück zu bringen.

Faszinierend an WEFT ist außerdem der Einsatz der elektrischen Geige, die Anderson eigentlich permanent nutzt, um einen dramatischen Spannungseffekt zu erzielen. Die Kompositionen wären ohne dieses Instrument (und ohne Lunns Schlagzeugspiel) sicherlich spannungsärmer und vielleicht auch weniger interessant, aber die Kürze des Albums, verbunden mit dem hohen Grad an musikalischer Abwechslung und dem kathartischen „A Dream Of Oaks“ als Höhepunkt sorgen dafür, dass man immer wieder gerne reinhört und bei der Stange bleibt; für Fans der genannten Personen und der alten OPETH ist „The Splintered Oar“ ein Pflichttermin.

Die Hardcore-Band AGNOSTIC FRONT hat mit „Echoes In Eternity“ ein neues Album veröffentlicht. Das neue Album der US-Amerikaner aus New York City wurde von Mike Dijan und Zeuss gemixt und gemastert und erschien am 7. November 2025 via Reigning Phoenix Music. Das Cover-Artwork stammt von Ernie Parada. Zum Release teilte die Formation das Video „Sunday Matinee„.

Vorab gab es mit „Way Of War“ ein weiteres Lyric-Video.

„Der Track ist ein echtes Zeichen der Zeit! Wie die Gier korrupter Politiker uns und viele andere Nationen in sinnlose Kriege zieht. Diese Aktionen bringen leider Opfer mit sich, die Zivilisten nie wollen. So ist Krieg eben“, sagt die Band.

Die Progressive Rock-Band BIG BIG TRAIN veröffentlicht am 6. Februar 2026 ihr neues Album „Woodcut“. Es handelt sich dabei um ein Konzeptalbum, das eine Geschichte erzählen soll, wie Bassist Gregory Spawton erläutert:

„Woodcut erzählt die Geschichte einer Figur, die wir The Artist nennen und die mit ihrer Kreativität und ihrem Leben zu kämpfen hat. Eines Tages gelingt es ihm, einen Holzschnitt zu schaffen, den er als schön und einzigartig empfindet. Vielleicht ist es ein Traum oder vielleicht ist es das echte Leben, aber er findet sich plötzlich in der Holzschnitt-Szene und in einer alternativen Welt wieder.”

Die Dungeon Synth / Symphonic Black Metal-Band HYVER hat nach dem Opener „The Forest and the Arrival“ nun auch den Titeltrack ihres kommenden Albums „Shaâtaunoâr“ veröffentlicht. Es ist nach „Sorcier​-​hibou“ (2023) und „Noirceur mystique d’autrefois“ (2024) das dritte Album des Projekts von Léon Guiselin (HANTERNOZ, GRYLLE).

„Shaâtaunoâr“ ist ein Konzeptalbum, in welchem der Hörer „der Held“ ist. Um eine schreckliche Burg zu verlassen, muss man kluge Entscheidungen treffen und den Weg nach draußen finden. Die Musikauswahl besteht aus Dungeon-Synth-Zwischenspielen, wobei die Geschichte entweder von Virginie Ropars (Englisch) oder David Thiérrée (Französisch) erzählt wird.

Die Hardcore / Thrash Metal-Band DENIAL OF LIFE hat einen Labeldeal bei Creator-Destructor Records unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen werden die US-Amerikaner aus Tacoma (Washington) ihre neue EP „Witness The Power“ veröffentlichen. Die Scheibe folgt auf das 2022er-Debütalbum „No Reason“ nach und wird am 7. November 2025 erscheinen. Mit „Sword of Fire“ gibt es nun einen weiteren Video-Clip.

„Witness The Power“ wurde gemeinsam mit Jason Brooks aufgenommen, von Taylor Young gemixt und von Brad Boatright gemastert. Das Cover-Artwork stammt von Stein Hansen. Vorab gibt es auch zu „Circle The Drain“ einen Video-Clip.

„‚Circle The Drain‘ ist ein Liebeslied über die Trauer um eine persönliche Beziehung und das Gefühl der Scham, weil der Verlust hätte vermieden werden können“, sagt die Band.

It opens with Aftermath, a mechanical dirge that mutates into a chant, then lurches forward with the stoicism of old machinery still somehow running on soaked circuits, haunted by the factory ghosts of Front Line Assembly, Test Dept, and the sharper edges of EBM’s infancy.

Quicksand moves like a black tide. A bassline coils underfoot, viscous and alive, while metallic percussion splinters across the mix. There’s an anxious propulsion, the sense that the ground beneath could collapse at any moment. Shocking Days amplifies that feeling: a stomper built for collapsed dance floors and blackout nights. The arpeggios rise and fall like sirens wailing across flooded streets, summoning the listener into a trance of survival.

The midpoint, One Word Mission Statement, feels like a rallying cry for the dispossessed. It throttles forward with the manic energy of DAF and Die Krupps, all steel and adrenaline. The vocals spit and hiss through static; it’s the sound of anger refined into movement, of despair turned kinetic. Amazing Disgrace, meanwhile, drags the listener into a crawl: an EBM bruiser that captures the disorientation of watching the world drown through a glowing screen. It encompasses the rhythm of sandbags breaking, of pulse rates quickening as headlines pile up.

Song for the Mudlarks strips things bare. Gone is the aggression, replaced with a searching melancholy; a scavenger’s hymn for what’s left behind. Bits of melody glimmer like coins dredged from the riverbed, reminders that even ruin has relics worth keeping. The final act, Don’t Get Off the Route and Soultrigger, closes the cycle in steel-toed unity. The former pounds with Nitzer Ebb’s precision; the latter, a distortion-fed roar that channels Ministry’s mechanical menace and PIG’s decadent rage.

The Mire Chronicles feels soaked, scarred, and triumphant in its endurance. It’s a document of catastrophe turned catharsis, proof that even in the wreckage, machines can still sing.
