Das war’s also schon wieder mit GRIDLINK, der besten Grindcore-Band der vergangenen 15 Jahre. „Coronet Juniper“ war Auferstehung und Ende zugleich, praktisch das, was im Neuen Testament nach der Auferstehung Jesu passierte. GRIDLINK, der Messias der zeitgenössischen Grindcore, fuhr in den Himmel, die Fieberträume der folgenden Johannesoffenbarung muss nun durch jemand anders erzählen. Dass die Death-Grinder BARREN PATH aus fast den gleichen Leuten bestehen, ist somit konsequent und tröstlich zugleich. „Grieving“, das zwölf Songs umfassende, dreizehneinhalbminütige Debütalbum der US-amerikanisch-japanischen Band, geht dennoch stilistisch einen vollkommen anderen Weg.

Das zeigt sich schon am Design: Statt der futuristischen Optik GRIDLINKs fahren BARREN PATH ein genrekonformes Logo nebst Cover auf, das japanische Dämonen in einem Hieronymus Bosch-artigem Weltgericht zeigt. Ungebremst, brutal, aber auf technisch überragend hohem Niveau agiert die Formation. Gitarrist Takafumi Matsubara hat auf „Grieving“ eindeutig nicht vor, GRIDLINKs Story fortzusetzen, weder konzeptuell noch musikalisch. Es ist also nicht nur die klassischere Death-Grind-Stimme von Mitchell Luna, die das Screamo-Organ von Jon Chang ablöst, sondern auch die weit weniger melodiöse Herangehensweise an das Songwriting. Hits, die tief unter die Haut gehen, wie „Ocean Vertigo“ oder „Revenant Orchard“ sind auf „Grieving“ nicht zu hören.

Obwohl BARREN PATH aus GRIDLINK hervorgehen, sind sie stilistisch anders ausgerichtet: „Grieving“ ist ein bitterböses, hochaggressives Death-Grind-Album.
Das mag schade sein, aber auch nur, weil GRIDLINKs Schatten so groß über BARREN PATH ragt. Bei „Grieving“ stimmt nämlich das Gesamtbild durchaus: Schwer sowohl in Bezug auf das apokalyptisch anmutende Thema, als natürlich auch auf die Brachialität der Musik. Und so ganz stimmt es nicht, dass BARREN PATH vollständig auf Harmonien verzichten, sie sind nur unter Brutalität und Geschwindigkeit versteckt. Das Soundbild ist weniger transparent als bei GRIDLINK, und somit muten die zwölf Songs wie eine einzige Lektion in Gewalt an. Rasante Riffs und das fast schon übertrieben komplexe und tighte Drumming von Brian Fajardo rückt BARREN PATH in Richtung der Tech-Grinder COGNIZANT, bei denen er nicht zufällig auch spielt. Klarer Fall: Wer diese Band mag, darf „Grieving“ nicht verpassen.

Dass die kurzen Songs, die allesamt eine Minute, plusminus ein paar Sekunden dauern, mit nachhallenden Riffs ausgestattet sind, wäre übertrieben, aber je öfter BARREN PATH sich auskotzen dürfen, umso mehr bleibt hängen, sei es beim Opener „Whimpering Echo“, bei „Primordial Black“, „No Geneva“ oder „Horizonless“, die zwischendurch immer wieder Parts mit Wiedererkennungswert haben. Besonders gelungen ist „Isolation Wound“, bei dem BARREN PATH die Dynamik etwas zurückfahren und agieren, als würden sie sich aufbäumen vor dem nächsten Urschrei, oder „Relinquish“, in das sich einige Leadgitarren verirren. „Celestial Bleeding“ ist als Spoken Word-Interlude mit düsteren Ambient-Synthesizern dann das postmoderne Element auf „Grieving“. Dieses Stück dient als Auftakt vor den letzten drei Songs, die das Album so abrupt enden lassen, dass es fast schon irritiert; so als würde man die Kugel nicht kommen sehen, als würde das Lebenslicht unvermittelt ausgelöscht.

13 Minuten höchste Intensität: BARREN PATHs Debütalbum „Grieving“ ist technisch brillant und emotional randvoll mit Angst, Wut und Frust.
Dreizehn Minuten Chaos und Gewalt in Musik gegossen, mit Emotionen am Siedepunkt: Bei BARREN PATH kommt Stimmung auf; keine Gute freilich. Viel mehr ist „Grieving“ ein zeitgeistiges, brachial produziertes Album, das in diese von Angst und Gewalt geprägte Welt wie die Faust aufs Auge passt. Für einige mag „Grieving“ zu kompakt sein, wer Takafumi Matsubaras Welt kennt, kann ahnen, ohne es vorher gehört zu haben, dass es für dieses kompakte Werk keiner weiteren Songs bedarf, um auch nur einen Deut vollständiger zu werden. Wer modernen, technisch anspruchsvollen Deathgrind à la COGNIZANT, MARUTA, frühe FULL OF HELL oder auch CLOUD RAT liebt, darf sich dieser apokalyptischen Vision vorbehaltlos hingeben. Von Könnern für Kenner sozusagen.

Das Projekt DUNKELSONNE hat am 31. Oktober 2025 das Album „Per Silvam, Desertum Et Oceanum“ veröffentlicht, das 64-minütige, genreübergreifende Konzeptalbum entstand mit Hilfe von KI-Tools. Michael, der Kopf hinter dem in-Mann-Projekt, erklärt, was „Per Silvam, Desertum Et Oceanum“ zu etwas Besonderem macht:

Das Projekt ist ein Hybrid: Das musikalische Fundament entstand zwar unter Einsatz von KI-Tools, jedoch wurde das Album mit klassischen Produktionsmethoden (Mixing, Mastering) finalisiert und durch die professionellen Gitarrenspuren meines Bruders beim Song „Dünenkäfer“ ergänzt. Es handelt sich um ein handwerklich betreutes Werk, das demonstriert, dass diese Technologie zu nicht-generischem, anspruchsvollem Metal führen kann.

Für die Umsetzung habe ich KI-Tools und klassische Produktionsmethoden kombiniert – Mensch und Maschine, vereint im kreativen Prozess. Alle Texte, Konzepte und Ideen stammen aus meinem Kopf – die Tools helfen mir dabei, diese Vision Wirklichkeit werden zu lassen. Ich möchte mit Dunkelsonne zeigen, dass man auch im Metal neue Wege gehen kann, ohne die Seele der Musik zu verlieren. Ich verstehe jeden, der das anders sieht – denn ich komme selbst aus dem Übungskeller und kenne beide Welten.

Bruno Kramm, bekannt für seine Arbeit mit der Band „Das Ich“, hat Charlie Chaplins berühmte Rede an die Menschlichkeit bereits 2015 neu vertont. Chaplins Rede, ursprünglich ein Teil seines Films „Der große Diktator“ aus dem Jahr 1940, ist eine leidenschaftliche und rührende Botschaft von Liebe und Zusammenhalt, die im krassen Gegensatz zur brutalen Realität des Zweiten Weltkriegs stand.

Schamanen interagieren als Beschützer ihrer Gemeinschaften über veränderte Bewusstseinszustände mit der Geisterwelt. Auf ihrem Album "Songs of the Shaman" interpretieren NYTT LAND traditionelle schamanische Gesänge und Zaubersprüche der mandschu-tungusischen Sprachgruppen unter Sibiriens Ethnien. Bei diesen Liedern kommen sehr alte musikalische Techniken wie Kehlkopfgesang und Trommeln zum Einsatz. Alle Gesänge wurden in der jeweiligen Originalsprache aufgenommen. Damit will die Band deren ursprüngliche Kraft bewahren, die auch aus der Intonation sowie dem Sprachrhythmus der Worte entsteht. Diese Sammlung alter Magie in Form von Geisterbeschwörungen, Abwehrzaubern und Segensprüchen wurde sorgfältig ausgewählt und schließt Schadflüche bewusst aus. NYTT LAND sind eine rituelle nordische Folk-Band, die das Ehepaar Natalya und Anatoly Pakhalenko im August 2013 in der westsibirischen Stadt Kalachinsk gründete, welche am Ufer des Flusses Om und als Station der Transsibirischen Eisenbahn errichtet wurde. Nach drei in Eigenregie veröffentlichten Alben, "Nytt Land" (2013), "Hávamál" (2015) und "Scopun: Songs from the Elder Edda" (2016), erschien im Jahr 2017 mit "Fimbulvinter" ihr Debüt bei einem Label, auf das kurz darauf das Album "Oðal" (2018) folgte. Während NYTT LAND auch weiterhin Werke in Eigenregie veröffentlichten, traten die sibirischen Elemente in ihrer Musik auf ihrem dritten Label-Album "Ritual" stärker als jemals zuvor in den Vordergrund. Mit "Songs of the Shaman" laden NYTT LAND alle diejenigen, die bereit sind ihnen zuzuhören, auf eine musikalische Traumreise zu einem verborgenen Ort in Zeit und Raum ein, an dem noch die Geister herrschen und den selbst die Götter fürchten. -> >;Vier ehemalige Mitglieder der heiß geliebten, aber leider aufgelösten finnischen Band GHOST BRIGADE kamen Ende 2020 in ihrer Heimatstadt Jyväskylä zu einem Gespräch zusammen. Das Gespräch entwickelte sich bald in eine unerwartete Richtung, die am Ende zur Geburt von CERESIAN VALOT führte. Mit mehreren Songwritern und zwei Sängern, die auf Finnisch singen, war Gitarrist und Hauptsongwriter Wille Naukkarinen voller Zuversicht, dass sich der Musikstil der neuen Band von ganz allein in eine neue Richtung entwickeln würde. Die Zeit gab ihm Recht. Der Sound des Debütalbums "Uumen" ("Tiefen") entpuppt sich als sehr dynamisch, vielschichtig und mit einer breiten Palette von Klängen und Ideen. Stilistisch verschmilzt das Album unter anderem Alternative, Rock, Progressive und verschiedene Metal-Genres. Die in finnischer Sprache geschriebenen Texte auf "Uumen" kreisen um das Thema "Unsicherheit". Obwohl das Album oft düster und melancholisch wirkt, sind die Texte keineswegs apokalyptisch, sondern sie bieten auch Hoffnung und ein Licht am Ende des Tunnels an – auch wenn das nicht unbedingt hell erstrahlt. Da die Finnen in ihren Reihen Songwriter, Grafiker, Produzenten, Mixing lt; Recording Engineers und sogar einen Mastering Engineer haben, ist es kaum verwunderlich, dass die Band einen ausgeprägten DIY-Ethos pflegt. Mit "Uumen" brechen CERESIAN VALOT zu einer aufregend neuen musikalischen Reise auf, die etwas Altes, etwas Neues, etwas Geborgtes, etwas Dunkles und ein goldenes Talent für Songwriting mit sich führt: Wer "Uumen" mit offenen Ohren hört, wird mit subtiler Schönheit belohnt.-> >;

Lovers of Evil lands like a late-night broadcast from a world slightly tilted off its axis…one of those moments when you realize the buzzing in your skull is actually the song taking hold. And It Was Night, the latest moniker from composer and sound designer Rani Sharone, arrives with the kind of restless voltage you’d expect from someone who’s spent years ghost-writing for Hollywood, touring with Puscifer, rattling stages with Stolen Babies, and hearing his own work echo through Walt Disney Concert Hall courtesy of Hilary Hahn. That résumé reads like several careers stacked inside one human body, and maybe that’s why this track feels like it’s prying open a long-sealed door.

Sharone stepped away from the busy hive of in-house composition to return to his original creative impulse: building his own strange kingdoms of dark alternative electronics. And it was Night folds together dark electronic dance music, alternative rock, EBM, and new wave with the instinct of someone following a pulse only he can hear. Nothing about it feels hesitant. It moves with purpose.

Lovers of Evil is where that purpose sharpens. Inspired by true crime and the everyday rot we’ve all grown numb to, the track hits like a strobe-lit warning flare. It flicks between a menacing lurch and big-room exuberance, a dance-floor engine built for those who prefer their fun tinged with dread. Think big beat burn, think a little glam gleam and a cold grin, as the hooks sink quickly, then twist.

“Lyrically, I got the idea after watching the first season of True Detective and how heavy it made me feel,” says Sharone. “The only way I could shake that feeling off was to write about it.” You can hear that weight pressing at the corners of the song, tightening its shoulders. But instead of collapsing inward, the track flings itself into motion: beats swinging like a hammer, synths leering, everything a little warped.

The production nods to the ’90s big beat pantheon – Sharone cites Prodigy as an influence here, but it’s filtered through his own crooked lens. “I really wanted the verses to have a sinister quality to mirror the lyrics of demons hiding in plain sight among us, and wanted the choruses to have an over the top pop quality to them with stacked vocals heavily influenced by the Sisters of Mercy, Shriekback, and Erasure. I liked the disparity between what’s being said and the feel of the music.”

Chameleons – Arctic Moon

‘Arctic Moon’ is the first full-length studio album by Chameleons in 24 years and the first to feature the current group line-up. It contains seven new songs that include the recent single ‘Saviours Are A Dangerous Thing’ STREAM   VIDEO, a re-recorded version of ‘Where Are You?’ (2024 single), plus longer compositions such as the slow-burning epic ‘David Bowie Takes My Hand’.

Although signalling something of a departure from the sound of their earlier albums, ‘Arctic Moon’ nevertheless remains rooted in the same emotional depth, spirit and intensity that has always defined their output.

“There is an obvious maturity to the songwriting on this record, and anyone familiar with our past work will hear that this is a positive step forward,” bassist and singer Vox (Mark Burgess) has previously stated. “While we’re proud of the band’s legacy, we really wanted to forge something fresh while retaining that profound and imaginative quality we’re known for. We think that we have managed to do that and deliver a very strong record!”

Chameleons have spent the summer touring on both sides of the Atlantic, with their latest headlining US trek also incorporating a dozen dates with The Psychedelic Furs. UK shows included an appearance at the Forever Now festival held at Milton Keynes Bowl, The Guardian reporting that the “gnarled angst and integrity of Manchester’s ultimate cult band remains intact.”

Another North American tour commences shortly after the release of ‘Arctic Moon’, followed by mainland European dates from late October and a previously announced UK tour in November TOUR & TICKET INFO HERE.

Long cited as a hugely influential act, having inspired the likes of (The) Verve, Oasis, Interpol, The Killers, Editors and White Lies, Chameleons are renowned for their transformative catalogue and intense, emotionally charged live performances, creating a legacy that extends far beyond their four previously issued studio albums. Their widely acclaimed debut, ‘Script of the Bridge’ (1983), has been cited by many as a masterpiece way ahead of its time, and was followed by ‘What Does Anything Mean? Basically!’ (1984), ‘Strange Times’ (1986) and ‘Why Call It Anything?’ (2001).

Their unique sound swiftly gained an audience with its mix of melancholic yet energetic and powerful tunes, hypnotic, ethereal riffs and a potent, timeless lyrical style. They are considered one of the most influential guitar bands of the ’80s and ’90s, contributing substantially to the post-punk, shoegaze and indie scenes.

2024 saw the release of two EPs that kicked off a new chapter for the band. ‘Where Are You?’ consisted of three new songs, while ‘Tomorrow Remember Yesterday’ featured five re-recorded archive tracks. The well-received ‘Saviours Are A Dangerous Thing’ was issued in late May 2025, setting the scene for ‘Arctic Moon’, an album that sees Chameleons propelling forward musically while retaining the essence that has made them iconic.

When Andreas Catjar-Danielsson left this world in the very early morning of July 29, 2024, it still came as a shock to his relatives and friends including his former band mates in COVENANT. Although the musicians had known for a while that their beloved friend and colleague was losing his epic struggle with cancer, the realisation of it actually happening landed with such a massive impact that nobody ever could have prepared for.

Exactly a year after this dreadful day, COVENANT have announced the “Andreas EP”, which is the Swedes’ first release in nearly a decade. The EP is a tribute to the dear friend and colleague lost but also intended for charity as all proceeds will be going to Andreas Catjar-Danielsson’s widow and their two children. “Andreas EP” contains five experimental tracks including two cover versions by YAZOO (“Winter Kills”) and LEE HAZLEWOOD (‘A Rider on a White Horse’).
 

COVENANT were conceived in the city of Helsingborg in Sweden’s southernmost province of Skåne, only a short boat trip away from Helsingør on the Danish side of the water in 1988 by a bunch of young lads that were inspired by the flourishing scene of European electronic music spearheaded by bands such as DEPECHE MODE, KRAFTWERK, THE HUMAN LEAGUE, and FRONT 242 to name but a few. COVENANT chose their name as a symbol of the especially strong bond of friendship that they shared.
 
Emerging from the parent’s basements and recording in their bedrooms, COVENANT were invited to publish their song ‘The Replicant’ on a label sampler in 1992, which created such a buzz that it was followed by a record deal. It took two more years, before the Swedes’ album debut ‘Dreams of a Cryotank’ detonated onto the electro scene with a massive impact in December 1994. The rest is already musical history.
 
Throughout their outstanding career, which is currently spanning nine acclaimed studio full-lengths and two live albums, COVENANT have always moved forward, searched for new exciting ways of expression, and pushed the boundaries of electronic music. Emotional intelligence combined with excellent musical craftsmanship, and a knack for catchy tunes has brought the Northern Europeans to the forefront of electronic music and made them a household name of the scene.

Dependent Records support this charity with all their hearts and will waive all proceeds from the “Andreas EP”.

OMEN CODE are the new rising star on the EBM firmament. Deep, dark, and gritty industrial sounds are channelled into captivating mid-tempo tracks that create the atmospheric feeling of a dystopian future ruled by technology and marked by social decline.

This grimdark science fiction approach is not meant to indicate that OMEN CODE embrace any political agenda or message. Rather the international duo took inspiration from the writings of Philip K. Dick and Alfred Bester as well as cinematic masterpieces by British director Ridley Scott such as “Alien” and “Blade Runner” among others. 

OMEN CODE were originally intended as a one-time project by Kevin Gould. The engineer, programmer, and lyricist was a member of the English Industrial EBM trio JOHNSON ENGINEERING CO. together with Sean Bailey and Ian Hicks, which released the album “Unleash” in 1988. He went on to found the electro-industrial act ELECTRO ASSASSIN with Ian Taylor. Following the release of “Jamming the Voice of the Universe” (1992), Taylor was replaced by Richard McKinlay with whom the next albums “Bioculture” (1993) and “The Divine Invasion” (1995) were recorded.

When vocalist and lyricist Agi Taralas was hand-picked from a stack of applications for the frontman position, the chemistry between the two artists proved so productive and strong that Gould and Taralas decided together to turn OMEN CODE into a permanent project that would also aim to perform live. The vocalist had already left his mark on the scene in a joint project with German electronic musician Stefan Böhm under the moniker OUR BANSHEE that released an album entitled “4200” in 2017.

Whether you want to indulge in shady dreams and evoke sinister futuristic images in cinemascopic visions or just move to dark electronics on the dancefloor, OMEN CODE offer the perfect soundscapes for both approaches to their music with the grandiose debut album “Alpha State”!
