Das NOVA ROCK-Festival 2025 hat einen Termin: Vom 12. bis 14. Juni 2024 wird im österreichischen Nickelsdorf gefeiert. Tickets gibt es derzeit zum Preis von 269,99€ über die offizielle Festival-Homepage. Camping und Parken sind bereits im Preis inbegriffen.

Neu im Line-up sind mittlerweile CRADLE OF FILTH, FOLKSHILFE, BABY LASAGNA sowie DJANGO 3000. Ihre Teilnahme abgesagt haben hingegen BAD WOLVES. Zudem hat man im Januar bereits das Programm der Red Bull Stage finalisiert: BOSTON MANOR, ITCHY, FROM FALL TO SPRING, AMIRA ELFEKY, BLACKGOLD, VANDANS, HEALTH, DEAFHEAVEN, NORMANDIE, HOUSE OF PROTECTION, VOWWS, STESY, THE GENERATION, THRICE, WHITECHAPEL, CALL ME KARIZMA, FILTH, GLUEBOYS, GYFTH, DANKO JONES, ADEPT, PALEFACE SWISS, SELF DECEPTION, HALFLIVES sowie LEONS MASSACRE treten in Nickelsdorf auf.

Ende 2024 wurden dem Billing abermals eine Handvoll Acts hinzugefügt: SPIRITBOX sind 2025 mit dabei, ebenso wie DEINE COUSINE, SAWYER HILL und Wendi’s Böhmische Blasmusik.

Im November legten die Organisatoren zuletzt nach und bestätigen mit LINKIN PARK einen weiteren Headliner. Zuvor ware bereits SLIPKNOT, ELECTRIC CALLBOY, sowie KORN als Haupt-Acts bekannt. Weitere Neuzugänge sind KNOCKED LOOSE, SEVEN HOURS AFTER VIOLET, RISE AGAINST, AWOLNATION, JINJER, LOLO, POWERWOLF, REFUSED, IRIE RÉVOLTÉS, KRAUTSCHÄDL, MEHNERSMOOS sowie DRAGONFORCE. Außerdem spielen WANDA sowie LORNA SHORE auf dem Open Air.

Das CAMPING BATTLEGROUND FESTIVAL findet im Jahr 2025 erneut an drei vollen Tagen statt: Die nächste Auflage ist vom 5. bis 8. Mai 2025 geplant. Das Besondere am Open Air im bayerischen Oettingen ist dabei das “offene Infield”: Der Zeltplatz ist Teil des Festivals und nicht vom restlichen Gelände abgetrennt.

Tickets im Vorverkauf gibt es derzeit zum Preis von 109,-€ und noch bis Sonntag, 1. Juni 2025, über die offizielle Festival-Homepage. Für Gruppen ab zehn Person sind darüber hinaus weitere Rabatt-Angebote verfügbar.

Seit einiger Zeit ist das vollständige Billing des Events bekannt. Komplettiert wird es durch WHAT LIES BEYOND, DEATH IN FICTION, SAMURAI PIZZA CATS, FLESHCRAWL, CHAOSBAY, FRAGMENTATION, ELCHWUT sowie ANDREAS KALB. SUN EATER sowie DEFIANCE mussten dagegen ihre Teilnahme absagen.

Mit der zweiten Bandwelle enthüllten die Organisatoren nun einige weitere Acts: KUPFERGOLD, A SECRET REVEALED, THORNBRIDGE, ASENBLUT und KANINE sind 2025 mit dabei.

Für die kommende Ausgabe bestätigt sind außerdem TANKARD, BRAINSTORM, NECROTTED, FROG BOG DOSENBAND, TRAITOR, GUTRECTOMY, AVRALIZE sowie ACCUSED.

Bölzer. Bölzer. Noch nie etwas davon gehört. Die zwei Herren KzR und HzR (Kaiser und Heiser?) treiben schon seit 2013 (EP Aura, 2014 EP Soma) ihr metallisches Unwesen unter diesem Namen. Bölzer. Klingt nach Bolzplatz, nach Staub, Schweiß und diversen Blässuren.

Doch ist dieses Bild zu wenig, um „hero“ gerecht zu werden. Selten wurde ich so gepackt und mit einem Lächeln durch die Luft gewirbelt. Ja, lächelnd, denn irgendwie verströmt die Platte neben ihrer beklemmenden Intensität etwas angenehm positives. Ob es am Pfeifintro liegt?

„The Archer“ ist feinste Death Metal Kunst, die mit Klargesang aufgewertet wird. Und dann ist er da, der möglicherweise beste Song von 2016/2017 und ein heißer Anwärter auf ein Lied für die Ewigkeit. Die Symbiose aus Bolzplatz und Arena findet hier ihren Höhepunkt.

Der Klargesang, die Growls, die sägende und erhabene Gitarrenarbeit und das unglaubliche Drumming machen den Titeltrack zu einer Hymne, einen Livekracher, der gänsehäutiges Publikum zurücklassen wird. Hach, was freu ich mich auf eine Livedarbietung. Und diese Tempiwechsel! Argh.

 „illustrious god in flesh, passion and fire in the nothingness, hero“

Nach dieser großartigen Kunst ist das großteils straighte und mit wenig Gesang versehene „Phosphor“ eine willkommene Verschnaufpause, bevor nach dem atmosphärischen Intermezzo „Decima“ die nächsten großen Songs präsentiert werden. „I Am III“ walzt sich über 9 Minuten durch den Gehörgang, anschließend mäht „Spiritual Athleticism“ den letzten Rasen vom Spielfeld.

„Chlorophyllia“ ist dann ein gutes Beispiel für diese positive Stimmung, genau wie das Outro „Atropos“, was die Scheibe nicht besser beenden könnte.

Obendrauf ist die Scheibe richtig gut produziert, der Sound äußerst ausgewogen und ein Bassist fehlt mir zu keiner Zeit. Hut ab ins Woodshed Studio. Und wenn mir jemand die farbige Vinylversion zukommen lassen möchte: Nachricht genügt.

Es dauerte ein paar Durchläufe, bis ich völlig losgelöst von der Erde (Warum hab ich jetzt nur einen Ohrwurm?) „Transcendence“ in voller Pracht erfahren konnte. Ja, ich spreche die Wahrheit. „Truth“, die Neueinspielung vom Album „Infinity“ passt als Opener wie das Räucherstäbchen zur Esoterikparty. Hallelujah! Hallelujah!Ein Fehler wäre es definitiv gewesen, „Failure“ nicht auf die Platte zu nehmen. Die erste Single hat alles, wofür „Transcendence“ als ganzes steht: Eingängigkeit, Leichtigkeit, Schwermut, Hoffnung.

„What I tried to do with this records was make something beautiful because the world is so ugly right now“, sagte Devin in einem Interview.

Es ist keine geheime Wissenschaft, immer höher zu streben und in den Sternen zu transzendieren – biete Dein Licht an, und die Welt wird wieder ein schöner Ort. Das wünsche ich mir von euch da draußen, von ganzem Herzen. Ich geh jetzt feiern, bis unter die Haut.So, nachdem nun alle Liedtitel bis hierher untergebracht sind, will ich noch ein wenig zu den weiteren Highlights neben „Failure“ kommen. Meine Damen und Herren („und alle dazwischen und außerhalb“), kniet nieder vor „Higher“. Der beste DTP-Song seit geraumer Zeit! Man fühlt sich zurückversetzt zu „Terria“ Zeiten, als Devin noch gerne den Proghammer auspackte und gnadenlos um sich schlug.

„Transcendence“ lässt Dich völlig der körperlichen Welt entsagen.

„Transcendence“, der Titeltrack, lässt Dich dann völlig der körperlichen Welt entsagen, wobei zwar der Chor auf den Boden hält, aber Anneke Van Giersbergen Deine Seele auf die Reise zu den Sternen nimmt.Mit „Offer Your Light“ schwelgen wir dann ein wenig in seeligen Strapping Young Lad Welten, wenn auch ohne Chaos und finalem Arschtritt. Ein straighter Banger, bei dem sich Devin’s und Anneke’s Stimme perfekt ergänzen. Wieder einmal. Mich würde doch glatt interessieren, wie sich der eine oder andere SYL Song in diesem Gewand anhört.Auch an den restlichen Songs gibt es nichts zu mäkeln. Und wie oben geschrieben, kann man „Transcendence“ in den ersten paar Durchläufen als „nur ein weiteres DTP Album“ abtun, aber dem wird die Scheibe wirklich nicht gerecht, da es in jedem einzelnen Lied wunderschöne Passagen zu entdecken gibt. Sogar das Ween Cover „Transdermal Celebration“ fügt sich hier als Abschluß gut ein.Devin hat diesmal den Kontrollfreak zurückgestellt, seine Bandmitglieder als Teil des Teams angesehen und das Album mit Adam „Nolly“ Getgood von Periphery zusammen produziert, was „Transcendence“ sehr gut steht.Legt euch hin, Kopfhörer auf, und werdet eins mit dem Universum.Ich transzendiere nun weiter.Veröffentlichungsdatum: 09.09.2016Spielzeit: 64:16

Gossip is a venomous companion, a silent predator cloaked in whispers and knowing glances. It festers in secrecy, thriving in the corners of conversations where truth falters and integrity erodes. Gossip twists trust into betrayal, transforming bonds into battlegrounds, sowing discord like seeds in poisoned earth. Dark Chisme, a moniker pointedly referencing the shadowy art of malicious murmurs, dives headfirst into these perilous waters, confronting the destructive currents of hearsay and the power struggles born from whispered deceits.

With their searing single, Yo Puedo Vivir Sin Ti (I Can Live Without You), Dark Chisme channels these themes into a defiant act of reclamation. The Seattle-based duo, comprising vocalist-producer Christine Gutierrez and multi-instrumentalist “E,” weave dark wave, house, and techno into a propulsive embrace of gothic and Latin emotion. This track pulses with an intensity that’s equal parts rhythmic allure and emotional catharsis, a thrilling balance of vulnerability and empowerment.

Gutierrez’s vocals command attention with a strength reminiscent of 90s alternative icons such as Shirley Manson, Curve, and Sneaker Pimps. Her performance brims with an unyielding confidence, channeling emotional clarity amid atmospheric synths that spiral and coil around a potent, irresistible hook. The song’s lyrical core, a phrase often repeated in Latin music traditions, takes on new life here as a fierce proclamation of independence from toxic entanglements…family bonds or otherwise.

“I was going through some hard times with family, and felt like the song embodied that,” says Gutierrez. “I felt like the simple turn-of-phrase “No Puedo Vivir Sin Ti”, or “I Can’t Live Without You”, which is common in Latin music, was something that people who have gone through similar experiences would relate to. It can really apply to family, romantic relationships, or friendships. If you don’t have support from people close to you, you can live with them.”

Visually, directors Brennan Moring and Bella Petro complement the song’s themes of liberation and self-determination with a striking video narrative. Through stark, evocative imagery, the video captures the journey of shedding emotional shackles and embracing newfound strength. It underscores the importance of community, presenting the sanctuary of supportive spaces as antidotes to the corrosive effects of relational toxicity.

“The first day was shot at a dark wave night I throw at Baba Yaga, a venue here in Seattle,” Gutierrez reflects. “We were able to get all of the crowd shots at a packed club, and then did isolated shots of dancers and us on following days. We wanted the video to tell the same story as the song, expressing yourself in those environments like no one is watching, but also recognize how it feels to be a part of such a supportive community…No one was cast for the video. We wanted it to be raw and represent people from our community. It was important for us to represent how someone would feel listening to this song at a club or concert knowing they’re in a community where they feel comfortable, and can be in their own head and let go.”

Yo Puedo Vivir Sin Ti is Dark Chisme’s audacious manifesto; a rallying cry to assert one’s autonomy amidst manipulation and strife. It’s darkwave with a pulse, charged with the compelling force of reclaimed power.

Dark Chisme spoke with Post-Punk.com about their creative process, their name, and their upcoming appearance at Glom Fest.

Could you tell us the story of how you two first met and decided to form Dark Chisme as a duo?

I’ve been in bands my whole life, but started doing vocals and drums for black metal bands in Chicago. I also did vocals for a indie/electronic band. At the same time, I’ve DJed everything from funk & soul, house, techno, latin, post-punk, goth, and dark wave. I especially leaned into the post-punk and dark wave after moving to Seattle, and kept having this urge to start making music again. I knew Erik from Chicago, who had played in some punk bands, and we decided to work on a few songs just to see what we could come up with. We performed our first two songs, Yo Puedo Vivir Sin Ti and Move at a DJ gig I had and kept writing from there.

Your music draws on goth, Latin music, dark wave, house, and techno—quite a unique fusion. How do these genres converge in your creative process? Were these shared influences, or did each of you bring something different to the mix?

Growing up in Chicago, especially in a latin household surrounded by QTBIPOC friends, really shaped a lot of my influences. My mom listened to traditional latin music, salsa and merengue, but was also into Chicago house, freestyle, and new wave especially in the QTBIPOC community. My dad was into Mexican classics, which gave me a huge appreciation for how mariachi singers put so much soul and passion into their vocals. My foster mother influenced me though psych and garage, too. Personally, my DJing introduced me into electro, bloghouse, industrial, New Wave, and house. Erik and I connected on heavier music like punk and metal and wanted to bring the intensity and hooks from that into something that was still dark and danceable.

The name “Dark Chisme” is intriguing and memorable. What inspired it, and how does the meaning of “chisme” (gossip) relate to the band’s identity?

After moving to Seattle, I changed my DJ name to “Gold Chisme” because I wanted something that shared my latin background. When we were thinking about a band name, we felt like “Dark Chisme” represented another side of my background that’s I’ve wanted to express.

Christine, your background includes DJing and production in Chicago, while Erik, you’re a multi-instrumentalist. How do these experiences shape your collaboration and songwriting process?

There’s definitely other reasons, but when I started “Dark Chisme”, one of my main goals was to make the kind of music I would like to DJ. Erik has played bass his whole life, and jumped at the opportunity to learn about sequencing and synthesis. We work together, sending each other samples, loops, and even voice memos of us “singing” melodies we think might work. A close friend, Aaron Sternke, also helped us to refine and layer elements, which allowed us to fill out our sound early on.

Let’s talk about your self-titled debut album from 2024. What themes or emotions were you exploring, and was there an overall narrative you wanted listeners to connect with?

I wanted to express themes of hardships related to my family, immigration, neglect and experiences in foster care, the US’s political climate, and the negative effects of beauty standards prominent in the music scene.

The record beautifully blends synth-driven beats with emotional intensity. Was there a song on the album that surprised you by how it resonated with listeners—or perhaps with you personally?
Beautiful Obsession Killer was one of those songs that started from a voice memo. I already had an idea for a song that addressed beauty standards, and the melodies and lyrics came together pretty quickly. It’s an personally emotional song, which I think comes across in the recorded track and when we play it live.

After the album, you released “Lost in the Night” as a standalone single. Could you share a bit about the inspiration behind that track and how it expands or shifts your sound?
Since we started, we’ve tried to bring live elements to our shows that aren’t in the recorded tracks, like bass, hardware synths, live percussion. This makes each performance unique, and has actually allowed the tracks from our LP to grow since recording them. Lost in the Night is our first track made completely with hardware synths, which we feel gives it a more organic feel than some of our previous work. We’re continuing this through other new tracks we’re writing for our second album which have a more aggressive sound.

Community and safe spaces seem central to the narrative of the video. Why was showcasing this sense of inclusive community important to you?

Growing up, I didn’t have much family support or guidance, and I was surrounded by substance abuse, neglect, and traumatic events. I often felt alone. But everything changed when I discovered alternative music – metal, punk, industrial, EBM, post-punk – through some friends. The lyrics spoke to me, made me feel seen, and like I wasn’t the only one who’d gone through what I had. I’d scour record shops, asking the staff for suggestions, and I was obsessed with collecting vinyls and CDs – still am! From there, I started hitting up shows at the Metro Chicago, house parties, Punkin Donuts (yes, with a P. Where goths, punks, metalhead hung out in the late 80’s – 2000’s) drag performances, and dance nights at Neo, this historical goth club. I’d learn new music from the DJs and performers, meet incredible people who welcomed me with open arms, and finally felt like I belonged. The pain I’d gone through became a source of strength, and the community became my lifeline. We got here because of the people in the goth and alternative music scene who took us in, and the unwavering support from our QTBIPOC community.

The song title—”Yo Puedo Vivir Sin Ti” (“I Can Live Without You”)—puts an empowering spin on traditional Latin music tropes. Could you share more about how this message evolved during the songwriting process?

We wanted to share a moment of independence. Growing up, I struggled with loving myself and having alone time. I always felt I had to fill the ‘void’ and sometimes that desperation lead to filling that void with people that constantly hurt you just to feel complete. Before writing the song, Erik and I talked about it for a while. He’s been through some similar challenges with not being your own biggest fan. We wanted to create a straight forward song, kind of like an anthem. “I can live without you.” I can continue my path without you. Many Latin ballads tend to sing about needing someone and not being able to move on. I just wanted to be like, nah…I got this, bye!

Your lyrics blend English and Spanish seamlessly. Does writing in Spanish help you access a different emotional space or cultural authenticity in your music?

Wow, I really like this question. It does help me access a different emotional state. Some words just hit harder for me in Spanish. For me, the meaning feels stronger in some parts and just feels right for me to sing. Being able to sing in both languages makes me feel closer to my culture. I always admired bands from different countries and hearing songs in different languages.

You’re about to play Glom Fest, a festival celebrating darkwave, post-punk, and independent artists. Why do you think independent festivals like Glom Fest are important for the scene?

The more festivals like these, the better! Our community grows and thrives when we come together like this. Since Glom booked us, we’ve felt nothing but constant support, respect, and care – it’s exactly what artists need to grow and feel welcomed. We love the mix of big-name shows and independent/local artists; it keeps things fresh. Supporting independent artists is key, and Glom nails that balance…We’re stoked to meet all the bands and connect with fellow artists. Supporting each other in this scene is key, and we love traveling with bands from different backgrounds – it’s always a rad experience.

For those planning to catch you live at Glom Fest, how would you describe a Dark Chisme live set? What sort of energy and experience can they anticipate?

We’ll look cute for a couple of minutes, but after that, expect headbanging, dancing and singing in sweat for the rest of the show. We love interacting with the crowd, singing along, and dancing with you guys because it genuinely feels special every time. We’ll express our gratitude until our last breath. The past year and a half has been incredibly special – I’m getting emotional just thinking about it. It’s been a dream to make music again and travel, connecting with people on this level. We’re thankful beyond words to everyone who’s listened to our music, especially the bilingual dark wave community that’s supported us. We love meeting you all at our shows, hearing your stories, and seeing how our music connects with you. Thanks for coming to our shows, especially those who come to multiple ones – it means the world to us. And to the bands we’ve performed with, thanks for being so welcoming and amazing. We’re grateful for this journey with all of you and appreciate Glom for hosting an awesome fest!

Given the positive reception of your debut album and recent singles, what’s next for the band?

We’re excited to plan our next moves, with Europe and Latin America for next year – maybe. A full US tour would also be an incredible opportunity for us. We’re looking to elevate our music by incorporating the lessons we’ve learned over the past year, adding a touch of aggression, darker techno beats, EBM influences, and more energy. We’ll also be introducing new elements like guitar with additional synths and percussion to our sound. Additionally, we’re working on another music video, which we’re looking forward to sharing soon.§

Es gab ja in der Vergangenheit schon so einige Bemühungen, das 90er Jahre Dark Electro-Projekt CALVA Y NADA neu zu beleben bzw. es zumindest wieder Live auf die Bühne zu bringen. Als Emmo.biz Records ab 2013 anfing, die komplette Diskografie im CD-Format neu zu veröffentlichen, war schon ein exklusives Live-Comeback für 2014 auf dem WGT im Gespräch, wozu es letztendlich aber doch nicht kommen sollte. 2023 zum Amphi-Festival war es dann jedoch endlich so weit und Constantin Warter alias Brenal stand wieder auf den Brettern, die für manche die Welt bedeuten. Allerdings waren die Reaktionen auf den Auftritt recht durchwachsen und scheinbar konnte er die hohen Erwartungen der Fans nicht ganz erfüllen, was auf Grund der langen Pause eigentlich auch kein Wunder war. Nach dem überraschenden Neustart von Emmo.biz Records im vorigen Jahr und der wiederholten Neuausgabe des CALVA Y NADA-Backkataloges, jetzt im Vinyl-Format als Picture Discs, dann ein zweiter Anlauf in Sachen Live-Comeback, der diesmal jedoch gelingen sollte. Am 19.10.2024 spielten CALVA Y NADA im Rahmen des 16. Elektrisch Festival im Club Seilerstrasse in Zwickau eine fulminante Headline-Show, die zum Glück mitgeschnitten wurde und man jetzt nachhören bzw. sich ins Plattenregal stellen kann. Dieses gelungene Live-Dokument erscheint nämlich nur im Vinyl-Format und die insgesamt 17 Tracks verteilen sich dabei auf eine schicke Doppel-LP mit Klappcover. 111 Exemplare im clear Vinyl gab es davon mit einer zusätzlichen Slipmate für den Dreher, welche ebenso der auf nur 55 Stück limitierten Box-Edition + zusätzlichen Fotokunstbuch beilag, welche allerdings schon längst ausverkauft ist. Dafür beim Label direkt noch erhältlich die Standard-Auflage von 333 Exemplaren im rot-marmorierten Vinyl, auf dem man quasi hautnah erleben kann, wie die alten Szene-Hits von CALVA Y NADA auch heute noch mitreißen können. Gerade hier kann man die Faszination einer an sich doch sehr simple Komposition wie „Rascheln“ nachvollziehen und ein guter Song nicht viel mehr als eine einfache Melodie und minimalen Aufbau braucht, aber dafür um so wirksamer kicken kann! „Live @ Club Seilerstrasse Zwickau“ bieten natürlich auch alle weiteren Hits von CALVA Y NADA im authentisch-sympathischen Old School-Dark Electro-Gewand und garantiert ohne Four To The Floor-Beats. Oben drauf gibt es mit „La Pura Mierda“ und „Rotes Meer“ zwei neue Tracks, wovon letzterer sogar aktuelle tagespolitische Züge aufweist. Das weckt natürlich Interesse an der vorsichtig geplanten neuen EP und wer jetzt Lust auf einen weiteren Live-Auftritt von CALVA Y NADA hat, bekommt auf dem diesjährigen WGT die Gelegenheit dazu. Die schwedische Gothic Rock Band SCHEITAN hat ein Musikvideo zu ihrer bereits veröffentlichten Single „Heaven Tonight“ veröffentlicht. Das Video, ein gemeinschaftliches Kunstprojekt, das von der bekannten Fotokünstlerin Annie Bertram (bekannt für ihre Arbeit mit Blutengel, She Hates Emotions und The Giger Museum) produziert wurde, erweckt die düstere, aber energiegeladene Stimmung des Songs zum Leben. Auf „Heaven Tonight“ sind auch Katrin Lanfire und Maik Beiersdorf zu hören.

„Heaven Tonight“ wurde von dem renommierten Daniel Bergstrand (bekannt für seine Arbeit mit In Flames und Soilwork) gemixt. Ein Remix von „Heaven Tonight“ durch Ashbury Heights‘ eigenen CJ soll bald veröffentlicht werden und verspricht eine clubtaugliche Version des bereits tanzbaren Tracks.

Neue Musik aus dem Hause HALESTORM: Die Hard Rock-Band um Sängerin Lzzy Hale veröffentlicht ihre neue Platte „Everest“ am 8. August 2025 via Atlantic Records. Nun haben HALESTORM ein Video zum Titeltrack geteilt.

 

Den ersten Track „Darkness Always Wins“ gibt es als Audiostream bereits seit Ende April auf allen gängigen Plattformen vor. Einen Visualizer gibt’s darüber hinaus bei YouTube.

Frontfrau Lizzy Hale kommentiert:

„’Darkness Always Wins‘ ist weder ein Song der Hoffnung noch ein Song der Verzweiflung. Es ist die Realität. Die Geschichte wiederholt sich. Das Böse siegt und die Guten gehen zuerst. Aber wir sind nicht verloren, solange wir nicht aufgeben und weiterkämpfen. Der Krieg wird vielleicht nicht in diesem Leben gewonnen. Aber unsere Mission ist es, die Fackel weiterzureichen, damit diejenigen, die nach uns kommen, etwas haben, wofür sie kämpfen können.“

Im Frühjahr 2025 sind HALESTORM im Vorprogramm von IRON MAIDEN zu sehen, spielen aber am 3. Juni 2025 auch eine Headline-Show in Leipzig (Felsenkeller).

Nach acht Jahren bringen THE HAUNTED wieder ein Album raus: Das zehnte Studioalbum der schwedischen Thrash Metal-Band heißt „Songs of Last Resort“ und erscheint am 30. Mai 2025 via Century Media Records, gleichzeitig veröffentlichen THE HAUNTED ein Video zu „Death To The Crown“. 

Ende April  haben THE HAUNTED mit einem Video zu „In Fire Reborn“ die zweite Single veröffentlicht. THE HAUNTED-Gitarrist Jensen erklärt den Track:

„Ein klassischer THE HAUNTED-Song im 6/8-Takt. Ich habe den Anfang, die Strophen und das Ende des Songs geschrieben, aber erst als Jonas den Refrain geschrieben hat, ist ‚In Fire Reborn‘ wirklich aufgeblüht. Ich glaube, dass dieser Song leicht zu einem Fan-Favoriten werden könnte, so wie er zu einem der Lieblingssongs der Band auf dem Album geworden ist. Der Text handelt, genau wie bei ‚Warhead‘, auch vom Thema Krieg, diesmal jedoch aus der Perspektive eines Soldaten…“.

Das Video zu „Warhead“ haben THE HAUNTED teilte die Band als erste Single im März 2025.

THE HAUNTED-Gitarrist Jensen verrät, warum er für den Song einen halben Tag Urlaub opferte:

„Als ich diesen Song schrieb, wusste ich, dass wir ein großartiges Album machen werden. Das Hauptriff kam mir während der Arbeit in den Sinn, und ich musste mir an diesem Tag den Nachmittag freinehmen, um es sofort aufzunehmen und daran zu arbeiten, solange die Inspiration noch frisch war. Die Lyrics handeln von verschiedenen Entscheidungsträgern, die als ‘War Heads’ – also Kriegstreiber – auf die eine oder andere Weise davon profitieren, Krieg zu führen. Die Soundeffekte im Intro wurden gemeinsam mit Örjan Örnkloo erstellt. Ich denke, es ist nicht übertrieben zu sagen, dass dieser Song eine echte Chance hat, für viele Jahre ein fester Bestandteil unseres Live-Sets zu werden…“

Mit „In der Hand“ veröffentlichen SCHANDMAUL den ersten neuen Song seit mehr als zwei Jahren.

Ende April gab die Band bekannt, dass Frontmann Thomas Lindner am Mikro von Marco Klingel alias Till Herence ersetzt wird. Der neue Sänger sagt über „In der hand“:

„Ich habe die Band in den letzten zweieinhalb Dekaden von außen begleitet und gesehen, was für eine unglaubliche Leidenschaft hier herrscht. Genau davon handelt auch `In der Hand`: Das Herz in der Hand zu tragen und für dieselbe Sache zu brennen. Gerade dann, wenn es mal ungemütlich wird. Schon meine ersten Liveshows als Sänger waren für mich eine extrem aufregende Erfahrung. Es ist mir eine Ehre, Schandmaul nun fest am Mikro verstärken zu dürfen und ich freue mich auf das, was noch alles vor uns liegt!“

Im September gehen die Folkrocker mit dem FOLKFIELD FESTIVAL, das am  13.09.2025 im Amphitheater Gelsenkirchen stattfindet, in die dritte Runde. Mit dabei sind auch D’ARTAGNAN, MR. HURLEY & DIE PULVERAFFEN, KORPIKLAANI, MANNTRA, STORM SEEKER, KUPFERGOLD.

In the delicate interplay between smoke and ebony, perfume becomes potent poetry. Bearing the name of the seductive fragrance by Tom Ford, here Mareux and Riki conjure a luxurious gloom with their new single, “Ébène Fumé.” Draped in silken synths and luminous vocals, this shadow-drenched collaboration between two evocative artists emerges as though each note drifts upwards from burning Palo Santo, curling gently through a theatre bathed in chiaroscuro.

“Ébène Fumé” captures Riki delivering perhaps her most spellbinding vocal performance yet—bold, confident, and radiant. The track resonates as a graceful sibling to her acclaimed 2021 single, “Florence and Selena,” channeling echoes of Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” with its sweeping intensity and emotive grandeur, while also evoking an emotional weight reminiscent of classic 4AD, such as the soaring romanticism found in This Mortal Coil’s Filigree and Shadow. After her recently released single, “Pulser,” explored Locrian tonal experiments, and the sultry, dark-synth power of the b-side, “Devil Games,” evoked the sensuality of Toni Halliday, Riki’s captivating presence in “Ébène Fumé” solidifies her enduring command of both melody, movement, and mood.

Mareux, a maestro of retro-wave cinematics, crafts a sonic backdrop to the song that deftly balances icy synth textures and lush choral flourishes. The music pulses with suave swagger, set against windswept synth beats and poetic lyricism. Mareux’s production skillfully augments the emotional depth of Riki’s vocal performance, each beat and chime resonating like a heartbeat in twilight.

Directed by the creative collective Muted Widows (Michael E Linn, Nedda Afsari, and Michael R. Zumaya), the video for “Ébène Fumé” unfolds as an alluring study in contrast and reflection. Riki gazes into a dressing-room mirror, performing to her own enigmatic double before gracefully drifting into the inky embrace of a black box theatre. There, Mareux stands bathed in spotlight, coaxing melodic sighs from his Oberheim Ob-X8 as shadows waltz gently around them. This elegant choreography of luminescence and darkness brings the essence of the song vividly to life.

“Ébène Fumé” serves as a tantalizing harbinger for Mareux’s forthcoming sophomore album, Nonstop Romance, a record poised between polished elegance and raw emotional urgency. Rejecting sterile perfection, Mareux prioritizes authenticity and introspection. “I’m trying to make something that’s reflective of me getting older,” Mareux explains. “Could you put it on in your house with people around and not bring the mood down? That’s what guided me.” Drawing inspiration from silent scenes by Tarkovsky and the neon-soaked grit of Hype Williams’s Belly, his sonic constructions become romantic snares, deceptively alluring yet subtly ominous.

“I’ve noticed that as artists get better or more seasoned, they often pursue a polished, studio sound and lose their grit,” Mareux reflects. “I like when music sounds like found footage.” This ethos permeates “Ébène Fumé” and Nonstop Romance, delivering a genuine emotional immediacy underscored by an unmistakable passion.

With “Ébène Fumé,” Mareux and Riki illuminate exciting new paths ahead. Mareux is set to perform live later this year, with shows at Pomona’s Fox Theater on December 12 and Los Angeles’s The Novo on December 13. Meanwhile, this entrancing collaboration hints at rich possibilities for Riki’s long-anticipated third album. Until then, “Ébène Fumé” lingers in the air like perfume, diluted yet bright—a melody softly humming after a lover departs, a delicate whisper of memory fading but never forgotten, gently resurfacing in echoes of melody, love, and longing.

“I only care about one thing,” Mareux declares, “and that’s being in love.” Nonstop Romance is out June 27th via Revolution / Warner Records.

WARMEN haben Details zu ihrem kommenden Album bekannt gegeben: „Band Of Brothers“ erscheint am 15. August 2025.

Grindcore als ein die Kulturen verbindendes Phänomen mag im ersten Moment seltsam wirken, aber die Offenheit und Toleranz in dieser Szene ist weithin bekannt, klammert man die misogyne Porngrind-Nische aus. An sich mag das Genre derzeit auserzählt wirken, nur wenige Alben mit Klassikerpotenzial wie „Coronet Juniper“ von GRIDLINK erschienen in den vergangenen Jahren. Aber hey, Jon Chang ist eben auch eine Ausnahmefigur. Dennoch: Wer tief gräbt, findet allerhand Obskures, aber nichts, was das Genre so richtig weiterbringt. CHEPANG könnten nun alles bieten, das im Grindcore so dringend gebraucht wird. Die aus Nepal stammenden und in New York residierende Formation sorgte mit dem 2023er Brainmelt „Swatta“ für offene Münder und/oder Kopfschmerzen. Ob das RELAPSE-Debüt „Jhyappa“ diesen Siegeszug fortsetzt?

Die Antwort ist klar: leider nein. CHEPANG treten bewusst auf die Bremse, um nicht noch unverdaulicher zu werden. Mehr noch – nachdem bereits „Chatta“ (2020) mit Industrial und Noise experimentierte und exzellente Remixes als Addendum bot, sich „Swatta“ gegen Ende mit NAKED CITY-Wahnsinn der Musik generell verweigerte, ist „Jhyappa“ ein Blick zurück in Richtung des Debüts „DADHELO – A Tale Of Wildfire“, beziehungsweise der ersten EP „Lathi Charge“. Sprich: die Riffs sind eher chunky statt dissonant, die Grooves heavy, die Blast Beats knackig. Neun Songs in 18 Minuten lässt auch formal eher an NAILS denken als an den fragmentierten Wahnsinn des letzten Albums. Das ist irgendwie schade, da CHEPANG auf diese Art viel von ihrem bizarren Charakter verlieren.

Dass CHEPANG sich gerade bei einem Album wie „Jhyappa“, das konzeptionell auf dem Ritus der Selbstverbrennung basiert – in einem abstrakten Kontext, wohlgemerkt – eher klassischer Genrekost bedienen, statt musikalisch dies zu reflektieren, trägt den Beigeschmack einer verpassten Chance. CHEPANG stehen hier näher an zeitgenössischen Bands wie ESCUELA GRIND, was gerade diejenigen verprellen könnte, die an der Band in den vergangenen fünf Jahren ihre Freude hatten. Glücklicherweise hat sich ihr Songwriting in den letzten Jahren gefestigt, sodass die Stücke an sich durchaus knallen, selbst wenn das Besondere, das CHEPANG auszeichnete, kaum mehr zu vernehmen.

Bizarr ist immerhin der Aufbau von „Jhyappa“: Nach einem kurzen Intro mit nepalesischer Folklore starten CHEPANG mit dem Cover „Shakti“ von den nahezu in Vergessenheit geratenen Japanern FORCE – eine launige Grind-Crust-Nummer mit Dissonanzen und ohne Besonderheiten. „Gatichad“ mit seiner triolischen Heaviness funktioniert da viel besser und groovt beherzt, bevor klassischer Grind mit modernem Soundanstrich und stampfenden Outro. In der Folge wird es nur selten mitreißender: „Drivya Shakti“ könnte von PIG DESTROYER sein, das aufregendste an „Khel“ ist das Soundsample eines nepalesischen Comedians. Am besten funktioniert „Jhyappa“, wenn die Band messerscharf in Riffs in Rhythmen agiert – das ist immerhin in „Ek Hajar Jhut“ und „Spastata Ko Khoji Ma“ der Fall.

„Jhyappa“ zeigt im Grindcore-Brennglas, wie Integration mit dem Verlust von Kultur einhergeht: CHEPANG klingen nun fast typisch amerikanisch.
Dass die sympathischen CHEPANG mittlerweile wie eine recht unaufgeregte Grindcore-Band dieser Generation klingen lässt an die viel beschworene „gelungene Integration“ denken, die von rechtsgerichteten Politikern beschworen wird: CHEPANG fügen sich prima in das Genre ein, mit der Prämisse weniger von ihrer kulturellen Herkunft in die Musik fließen zu lassen. Konsequenterweise verlieren sie so ihre Besonderheit. Oder, konkreter: Statt Kulturen zu verbinden, wurde das Quintett größtenteils annektiert. Immerhin handwerklich passt hier alles, von der sauberen Performance und den abwechslungsreichen Vocals, hin zum typisch voluminösen Kevin Berstein-Sound, der „Jhyappa“ außerdem deutlich vom Dissonanzwerk „Swatta“ abhebt. Allein, das reicht nicht aus, um hier für Begeisterung zu sorgen. Schade, diese 17 Minuten fragmentierten Grindcore mit Hardcore-Einschlag sind deutlich zu wenig, gemessen an dem, das CHEPANG in ihrer jungen Karriere bereits erreicht hatten.

Welcome to Ministry’s delightfully devilish new video for the synth-pop gem, I’ll Do Anything For You. Reworked with razor-sharp wit and served ice-cold, this revived single from The Squirrely Years Revisited (Cleopatra Records) summons back the chill of Cold War paranoia with an absurdist flourish.

Jourgensen, the prince of industrial irony, continues his surreal reconciliation with the synth-soaked sins of his past. Originally penned amidst the frigid nuclear anxieties of Reagan-era brinkmanship, I’ll Do Anything For You has been dusted off, dressed up, and danced out, a playful yet pointed poke at humanity’s enduring penchant for self-destruction.

Directed by Vicente Cordero and Ben Garcia, the video plunges us headlong into a vaudevillian nightmare, where the grotesque meets the glamourous. The Squirrelette dancers are flanked by goose-stepping militants, reckless thrill-seekers, and a rogues’ gallery of historical despots and modern-day megalomaniacs.

At the eye of this carnivalesque cyclone is Uncle Al himself hamming it up in heart-shaped shades, pigtails, and a shirt proudly proclaiming I’m Adorable (because why the hell not?), cheerfully taunting tyrants through rosy lenses, mockery dripping from every frame.

The video is satire sharpened to a surgical edge, a political pantomime that slices deep into the absurdity of authoritarian allure. Jourgensen and company confront us with a circus of chaos, gleefully skewering the world’s worst with sardonic glee. Ministry’s mischievous maneuvering reminds us that humour can be a harpoon against hubris, and no villain, historical or hysterical, is safe from its bite.

Through this revived relic, Ministry merges past and present paranoia, wrapped up in a flamboyant farce that cuts as deep as it entertains. Who knew synth-pop could sting this sharply?

The band is clearly having a devilishly delightful time rewriting their own history. On their ongoing The Squirrely Years Tour, which wraps up June 5, Jourgensen is joined by John Bechdel on keyboards, guitarists Monte Pittman and Cesar Soto, drummer Pepe Clarke Magaña, bassist Paul D’Amour, and two spirited backup singers dubbed the Squirrelettes. Together, they’ve garnered rave reviews, electrifying audiences with their sensational throwback performances.

The Squirrely Years Revisited album delivers nine reimagined tracks (with three additional bonus tracks on CD), breathing new life into classic Ministry staples. Alongside the revamped I’ll Do Anything For You, fans can indulge in fresh spins on Work For Love, I’m Not An Effigy, and the ever-celebrated anthem, Everyday Is Halloween.

With his latest single, If You Could See, South Dakota-born artist Lindy Wise carefully balances anxious introspection with delicate optimism, creating a sound that resonates both intellectually and emotionally. Wise skillfully constructs an atmosphere that is both radiant and steeped in existential yearning.

At first listen, the song unfolds with vibrant, luminous synth melodies reminiscent of the glossy pop sheen synonymous with Erasure, Thompson Twins, and early OMD, but filtered through the gauzy dream pop veil of 4AD luminaries like Cocteau Twins and Creation Records veterans Chapterhouse. Wise’s vocals – delicate, hushed, yet urgent – hover gently above this sparkling musical landscape, imbuing each lyric with an unspoken tension.
