A project by the artist who also performs as Sva Battalion. Militant shamanistic dark-ambient / noise in which throat singing, khomus, percussion and wind instruments meet noises and gunshots. Feeling like a gathering of shaman-generals conjuring up their military business. According to the label, all instruments and voices are natural, not sampled. In general, quite vivacious and non-standard recording, qualitative and interesting. Recalls later 'early" SPK but not in an 'in your face" sort of way... very subtle. [Lastfm] |

Later that winter, they played their first show, supporting Johnny Truant for one of their final shows, showcasing their passion, dedication, roaring aggression and skill, capturing the audience"s attention. As 2009 began, the band selfrecorded and released a five track demo EP entitled 'Oceans", allowing wider audiences to discover the band, which in turn found Visions travelling up and down the UK, playing shows, often headlining. The band originally consisted of David Sterry (lead vocals/guitar), Richard Zatorski (violin/keyboard), Alan Johnson (bass) and Danny Simcic (drums). Steve Williams (keyboard) replaced Zatorski in 1986, who was then replaced by George Pappas in 1996 after a long hiatus of band activity. Real Life released their second and final album with the original lineup in 1985 titled Flame, which spawned minor hits "One Blind Love" and "Face To Face" although neither the album nor the singles repeated their previous success. The first single "No Shame" failed to chart, a video was shot for the second single "Face to Face" and it got airplay in Australia but nothing in the way of success. In 1986, they recorded the controversial song "Babies", which was even less successful, for a new North American release Down Comes the Hammer. "Babies", was the first new recording by the band that was not written by David Sterry and Zatorski. There were two other new songs and a re-mix of "Send Me an Angel". Incredibly this was to be the first of three best of albums after the band had only recorded two studio LPs. Zatorski left the band due to management pressure and attended law school and is now a practising lawyer in Melbourne. [Lastfm] |

Militia is the name for 4 bands. 1) Militia is a Belgian industrial percussion band. It was founded in 1989 by the multi-instrumentalist Frank Gorissen and wind instrument player Jo Billen and now 6 musicians are involved. The band is known for its use of self made percussion and wind instruments and the scrap material they transform into musical instruments. The band"s music is often inspired by the anarchic and atheist social views and their concirn about our natural environment, themes that can be found in most of their lyrics and statements. In 1989, Frank Gorissen was active as a home recording electronic music artist and as an industrial music dj at the free radio station called "Radio Demervallei" in Diepenbeek, Belgium. As part of his show called "Radio Militia", he sometimes invited musicians to perform at the radio studio. During such an event he met the wind instrument player Jo Billen and together they founded the band Militia. Frank Gorissen recorded the early Militia music on tape, calling this project "Statement", playing a variety of percussion instruments mixed with the sounds of the wind instruments played by Jo Billen. They showed these tapes and talked about their plans of releasing their music to Mike Dando a.k.a Con-Dom, a British noise act, after they attended his performance in Antwerp. Mike Dando presented the band to the German music label Praxis Dr. Bearmann, after he had incorporated some of the Militia music for a few of his own releases. [Lastfm] |

| 10.08.2010 | Darkwave | Penitent - Melancholia Limited Edition 1996 | Genre: Dark Ambient, Darkwave, Neoclassical, Ambient, Martial Industrial
The band Penitent will be a familiar name for many who indulge in dark music. Penitent has been successfully delving into the often ignored darker aspects of music and composition since the early 1990s. What kind of emotions guides us when we feel the loss of hope and the whole life seems to be nothing but a mournful bridge over a river of tears? One got to live ones life, and bear all the pain and sorrows, sadness and depression. Fatal for the majority, these dark emotions may become the pleasure for the others and give them power to survive. The punishment will come and everybody will be punished one way or another. To await or to undergo this punishment is to be a Penitent. It all started in 1994, when Karsten Hamre, the founder of Penitent, was obsessed by the idea of combining his poetry with the music, in order to create more powerful atmosphere than one could get by only reading his poems. These poems, emanated from the shadowside of life, reflected his thoughts and visions, which came from deep within the soul and mind. They dealt with themes and topics such as life and death, pain and torture, sorrow and depression. Acclaimed as "mad poetry", all of them indeed had deep sense. It"s obvious that the music also should not be a kind of regular music, but a kind of musical Art, growing on people and becoming something special to each and one of us, in our own way. And Karsten Hamre fully succeeded his goal by creating such unique musical act, recognized as Penitent. [Lastfm] |

Null Device is an one of those acts that is a bit hard to pin down. Their first album was pretty much straight-up synthpop in the mold of their 80"s heroes. Their second album and the followup EP show a turn into territory not usually explored by others in their genre. Rather than doing the obvious and making an electro-dance record or adding jangly new-wave guitars, they added duduks, ouds, dumbeks and other sundry ethnic instruments. The end result is an ambitious, albiet often scattershot, fusion of synthpop, trip-hop and world music. [Lastfm] |

Phillip Boa (* January 18, 1963 as Ernst Ulrich Figgen in Dortmund, Germany) is a German pop musician, singer, guitarist and composer. In 1985 he founded the independent band Phillip Boa & The Voodooclub. With the 1989 album Hair and the single Container Love, they achieved commercial success and international acknowledgment. Boa"s music is affected by british punk and new wave, and oscillates between pop and avantgarde. Continuous characteristics are the catchy, melodic choruses, broken into by changes of mood. This is often created by the contrast between Pia Lund"s high canto and Phillip Boa"s sonorous speaking voice. After his commercially most successful album Boaphenia (1993), Boa set an intentional break to the Voodooclub"s career. He then founded the heavy metal band Voodoocult. The project was especially notable for the reputation of the participating musicians, such as Chuck Schuldiner (of Death fame), Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo, and Mille Petrozza of the German thrash metal band Kreator. The band released two albums, and disbanded in 1995 after the release of the second LP and a tour. Boa is especially in Germany known for his intellectual, seemingly arrogant attitude. He also reflects his ambivalent relation to the mainstream music industry, for example in the song I"m An Ex 1/2-Popstar. [Lastfm] |

| 08.08.2010 | Gothic | Green Carnation - Alive and Well in Krakow (DVD) 2004 | Genre: Progressive Metal, Doom Metal, Progressive Rock, Metal, Progressive
Green Carnation are from Kristiansand, Norway. They formed in 1990 as a death-metal act, but did not release their first album until 2000. This is because shortly after having formed as Green Carnation, main composer Tchort left the band to join Emperor. The rest of the band continued/restarted under a new name: In the Woods.... Tchort decided to restart the band after In the Woods... disbanded, including some old In the Woods... members back into the band. Their style is most often described as progressive doom metal, with avant garde elements, though their more recent material has been tending away from the 'doom" side. This is perhaps best exemplified by their latest album, The Acoustic Verses, an all-acoustic album almost entirely devoid of the doom metal sound of their previous work. However, in the inlay to The Acoustic Verses, main man Tchort stated that the band is in the process of producing a Doom album much in the vein of the early work. This will be part two of a three part "doom trilogy" that includes Light of Day, Day of Darkness. Lyrically they are themed towards life and death, God and the questioning of religion, love and betrayal. Green Carnation is currently on hold due to financial and record label problems. Although Tchort will continue to write for the project, there will be no more live activity from the band since he disbanded the latest lineup.
